Chalk Hill Artist Residency, Sonoma County, California, 2027 Deadline: 31 Aug 2026 Country: United States Chalk Hill offers a unique opportunity to work independently on a beautiful ranch in Sonoma County. It’s your time and space to dedicate to your work. We host one artist at a time, giving you complete access to our 1925 rustic farmhouse and dedicated studio space in a repurposed barn. The property features oak woodlands, hiking trails, vineyards, and private access to the Russian River. Artists are given the opportunity to display and sell their work at our seasonal open studios. Duration of residency 2-4 weeks Accommodation The Residency’s 1925 rustic farmhouse has three bedrooms, one shared bathroom, a kitchen, and living space. The residency is located at Warnecke Ranch & Vineyard which is a working vineyard in a rural area. We typically host one artist at a time. Sonoma County weather is beautiful year-round, but summer can be hot and dry, and winter can be cold and rainy. Chalk Hill Residency supports artists living with disabilities and mental health challenges to the best of our ability. Please inquire about special living needs, for example, attending the residency with a care provider. Artists are financially responsible for their food. Grocery stores are located in Windsor and Healdsburg, both a 15-minute drive from the Residency. The residence does not have internet access. Internet is available at our office a short walk away. Transportation to and from the Ranch is the responsibility of the artist. We have two studio spaces. Other than easels, artists are expected to bring their own supplies.Studio / Workspace Studio spaces are in a repurposed, rustic barn near the artist house. Usually it's not shared.Fees and support Application Fee: $25 per application Program Fees: The residency fee for paying artists, includes living and studio space. $500/week. Scholarships: Chalk Hill awards a limited number of residency scholarships based on merit and need (brief statement required with application). Artists are responsible for their own transportation, food, and materials. Expectations towards the artist Artists should be expected to share evidence of progress and completion of their proposed project with Chalk Hill Artist Residency staff. This may include but is not limited to photographing your artwork, visits with staff during your residency, and participation in an art exhibition (open studios) or performance.
