Your Vision. Our Setting. Fez Art Residency invites artists, writers, and cultural practitioners to host their own retreat here in the heart of the Medina. You bring the concept and your community; we provide the accommodation, logistics, and local support to make it happen. Whether you’re a painter, photographer, textile artist, or interdisciplinary creator, this is your chance to share your practice, connect more deeply with your audience, and earn from your creativity in a truly magical setting. Imagine guiding your guests through the winding alleys, pausing to meet artisans at work, and letting the atmosphere of Fez become part of the experience. Duration of residency Our hosted retreats usually run for 5 to 10 days, with a week being the most common format. This length gives participants plenty of time to settle in, explore, and immerse themselves in both the retreat activities and the cultural richness of Fez.   That said, the exact duration is entirely up to you – whether you’d like to design a shorter, more intensive experience or a longer retreat that allows for deeper reflection, we’ll help shape the programme around your goals and vision. Accommodation Our retreats are hosted at Dar Drouj, a historic dar conveniently located in a local neighbourhood on the edge of Fez Medina. Designed with creatives in mind, it offers the perfect balance: close to all the major sites, yet peaceful and away from the crowds, with easy access to transport links. The house features five spacious ensuite bedrooms that can comfortably host up to 10 guests, with options for shared or private rooms to suit your retreat needs. Guests enjoy reliable Wi-Fi, fresh bedding, daily essentials, and the flavours of traditional Moroccan cuisine. At the heart of the dar, a tranquil courtyard and rooftop terrace provide welcoming spaces for relaxation, conversation, and gathering — the perfect setting to unwind, reflect, and connect after a day of creativity in the Medina. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance We welcome a wide range of creative disciplines - from painting, drawing, photography, and textile arts to writing, interdisciplinary practices, and beyond. Whether you’re leading hands-on workshops, reflective writing sessions, or collaborative projects, Fez provides the perfect backdrop for your retreat. Our team is on-hand to assist with the practical side of things so you can focus on your vision. We can help source materials locally, arrange studio space when needed, and connect you with traditional artisans for cultural workshops or demonstrations. Optional add-ons might include guided excursions, translation support, and photography or video documentation of your retreat.Studio / Workspace Creativity finds its home on the rooftop of Dar Drouj, where the light is soft, the air is open, and the views stretch across the rooftops of the Medina. This airy, inspiring space is well-suited to a wide range of artistic practices - from painting and drawing to writing, movement, and collaborative workshops. With the sounds of the city below and the sky above, the rooftop studio offers an atmosphere that encourages focus, experimentation, and connection.Fees and support We offer several flexible models to ensure your retreat in Fez is not only inspiring but also financially rewarding. Whether you prefer full independence, shared security, or a customised approach, we’ll work with you to create a structure that best fits your goals. Our aim is to make hosting in Fez both creatively fulfilling and financially sustainable, so you can focus on delivering an unforgettable experience. Flat Fee Model You pay a flat fee to cover retreat costs (accommodation, logistics). You keep 100% of participant income. Example: - Retreat costs: €2,000 - 6 participants at €800 = €4,800 - Your earnings: €2,800 Best for experienced retreat leaders with confident audience outreach. Revenue Share Model We split participant income after basic costs, sharing both risk and reward. Example: - Participant fee: €900 × 6 = €5,400 - Base costs: €2,000 - Profit split: 70% to you, 30% to us - Your earnings: €2,380 Best for newer retreat leaders or those wanting less upfront risk. Custom Model For hybrid setups, artist residencies, or co-branded experiences, we’ll design a model that works best for you. This could include partnerships with other artists, institutions, or cultural organisations — strengthening networks and building lasting collaborations. You can host: - Solo: 6–8 guests is ideal, but Dar Drouj can accommodate up to 10. - With a co-leader: Share responsibilities and split income while creating a richer, collaborative experience. Your PromotionNo one can tell your story better than you. Through your own platforms and voice, you’ll share the vision of your retreat, inspire people to join you in Fez, and set the tone for the journey they’ll take alongside you.
