O Castro Autumn Creative Residency

O Castro Autumn Creative Residency Deadline: 01 Feb 2027 Country: Spain O Castro Art Village is a rural creative residency located in an abandoned village in the Ribeira Sacra, Galicia, Spain. The project is dedicated to the regeneration of a heritage rural site through art, creativity, and cultural exchange. Eight traditional Galician stone houses in ruin, two hectares of mixed forest, and a renovated stone barn studio form the creative landscape of the residency. The programme welcomes artists, writers, filmmakers, researchers, and creative practitioners of all disciplines for self-directed residencies of flexible duration. There is no prescribed theme or outcome. Residents are invited to use the site, its landscape, and its particular atmosphere as creative material, or simply as a space for focused, uninterrupted work. The residency is embedded in a living community: O Castro hosts a variety of cultural programmes throughout the year, including the LuscoFusco music and arts festival, the KinoTerra film initiative, and ongoing international artist residencies. Residents have the opportunity to connect with this community and with the local rural villages of the Ribeira Sacra. The residency runs through the winter season, including the Christmas and New Year period, which many residents choose as a time for deep focus, creative renewal, and an unconventional way to mark the turn of the year alongside other creative people. Duration of residency Available from 7 November 2026 through end of February 2027. Minimum stay: 14 days. Stays longer than 2 months are possible and arranged individually. The residency runs through the full winter season including the Christmas and New Year period, which can be arranged as part of a longer stay. Accommodation Each resident is accommodated in a private, climate-controlled geodesic dome located in the forest on the O Castro site. Each dome includes a double bed with full bed linen, private en-suite bathroom with shower, heating and air conditioning, and electricity. The domes are furnished and fully equipped for a comfortable stay of any duration. Accommodation is private and individual: residents do not share their dome with other residents unless they are a couple or family group booking together. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Open to all creative disciplines including visual arts, sound art, film and video, photography, writing, architecture, performance, music, research-based practice, and interdisciplinary approaches. Work equipment and facilities available on site include a loft studio workspace in a traditional stone barn with high-speed satellite internet, available 24/7. Artists have full access to the O Castro site including two hectares of forest and eight traditional Galician stone houses in ruin. A communal kitchen and dining space are available for collective use. Mentorship and dialogue with Davoud Gerami, filmmaker and Artistic Director of O Castro Art Village, is available throughout the stay. The O Castro team is available on site to assist residents with logistics, local orientation, and access to the wider Ribeira Sacra area.Studio / Workspace Shared loft studio in a traditional Galician stone barn, fully renovated. The space includes high-speed satellite internet, natural light, and working tables. Access is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except during scheduled events. The studio is shared among residents currently in the programme and members of the O Castro creative community. In addition to the indoor studio, the entire O Castro site including the ruins, the forest, and the surrounding Ribeira Sacra landscape is available as an outdoor workspace.Fees and support This is a self-funded residency.
