Known for its stunning architecture, traditional crafts, and a kaleidoscope of colors, Jaipur is a tapestry woven from centuries of history and artistry. The city’s craftspeople have long been celebrated for their skill in textiles, jewelry, pottery, and more, making it a fitting backdrop for artists seeking inspiration and connection to the land. At the heart of this residency are hosts Ritu and Surya, two visionary artists dedicated to re-imagining the narrative of waste. Their work breathes new life into scrap and discarded materials, creating immersive installations and storytelling experiences that resonate deeply with the earth. Set against the backdrop of their quaint farm, the residency becomes a sanctuary for artists to engage in meaningful dialogues with the environment, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. Duration of residency The Duration of the Residency is 1 month, with an option to extend to 2 months Accommodation Located just 30 minutes from Jaipur and near the vibrant artisan hub of Bagru, known for its traditional block printing and micro-scale cloth manufacturing, this residency offers an ideal setting for creative immersion. Nestled on a quaint farm, the residency combines rustic charm with modern conveniences, providing a serene space for artists to focus on their work while enjoying the tranquil countryside. Each artist is provided with a private, fully-furnished room featuring an attached bathroom and a private terrace at the back, perfect for quiet reflection or relaxation. The rooms open to a front-facing swimming pool, offering a refreshing retreat during downtime. High-speed internet is available throughout, ensuring connectivity for both creative and personal needs. Additional amenities include complimentary laundry services, fresh linens, and towels, ensuring a hassle-free and comfortable stay. Artists have access to individual private studios, located in a separate part of the farm to foster focus and uninterrupted creativity. The farm also features a variety of private and communal spaces, encouraging both introspection and collaboration among residents. The lush plantations, peaceful landscapes, and friendly farm animals add to the charm, creating an environment that is both inspiring and relaxing. Residents are welcome to host visiting guests or partners, subject to room availability. Advance notice is required to confirm the duration of their stay and ensure the necessary arrangements. Any additional costs for guests will be covered by the artist. The residency fee includes the cost of living, food, and access to all facilities. Meals are prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, complementing the sustainable ethos of the program. With thoughtfully designed living spaces and studios, along with access to high-speed internet, the residency offers a perfect blend of comfort, creativity, and inspiration for artists seeking a unique and enriching experience. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance The residency is open to artists from all over the world. Artists of all disciplines creating in any media are welcome to apply: dance, theatre, music, sound, performance art, writing, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, culinary, photography, video/film, animation, architecture, sculpture (any material), ceramics, pottery, mixed-media / multi-media, interdisciplinary, installation, and other new/alternative media, etc. Open to emerging and established artists. Studios equipped with tables, stools/chairs, easels. Artists bring their own art supplies.We have Metal and wood fabrication tools with technical assistance.Studio / Workspace Artists get to use individual studios, the studios are made keeping in mind the harsh climate of Rajasthan, the structure is circular allowing wind, temperature and energy to flow.Fees and support The fee for the residency is 2200 Euros, which include cost of living and food. Expectations towards the artist We encourage artists in residence to showcase their residency outcomes in a culminating open studio event accessible to the local community. It’s essential to note that these opportunities are optional rather than mandatory, allowing residents to engage at their own discretion. Writers, researchers, and curators don’t require the sending of a portfolio but should send small essays or writing samples that should not exceed 10 pages. Applications will be evaluated by a curatorial committee and will take into consideration the following parameters: artistic quality; relevance of the project; degree of engagement with the local community; motivation of the candidate.
