100W-Corsicana Artist & Writer Residency 2027 Deadline: 01 Sep 2026 Country: United States Artists and writers of international, national and Texas origin are invited to apply for 2-month, fully-funded studio residencies to produce work in rare scale and focus with generous support and vast, immersive space, in an historic setting fifty miles south of Dallas, Texas. Residents are hosted at 100 West, an 11,000 square-foot, former Odd Fellows lodge virtually unaltered since its 1890s construction, preserved and minimally furnished with pieces designed and built from the first-floor woodshop. Private artist studios are 2,400 square-feet; writing studio is 600 square-feet; kitchen and dining room are shared. Quiet studio focus is prioritized, and balanced with introductions to professional networks in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, culminating with Open Studios at the close of term. This Residency takes place in downtown Corsicana – the birthplace of the Texas oil industry, where two booms 1890s – 1920s produced an exuberant setting, declining in care and use by the late-20th century, and gradually rejuvenating across the last decade. 182 artists and writers from across the United States and 18 countries have been granted residencies since 2012. Our programs for residency and education take place within a collection of sites: 100 West (studio and living space), Bookstore (published work and recommendations by residents), and Anteroom (exhibitions of alumni work). Duration of residency 2-Month Residencies. 2 Artists and 1 Writer hosted each term. WINTER: January 4 – February 23 SPRING: March 1 – April 27 FALL: October 11 – December 7 Accommodation Each resident is granted a private work studio with bed and bath accommodations including: extra-long twin bed, pillows, sheets, blankets, bath towels, and limited closet space for clothes and personal belongings. Each resident has a personal bathroom with sink and lavatory. Writing Studio bathroom includes a clawfoot tub. The shower room is shared on the second-floor and cleaned weekly. Kitchen on the second-floor is shared and furnished with standard appliances – refrigerator, oven, cooktop, microwave, blenders – with dishes, utensils, basic spices. Laundry room with machine washer and dryer with supplied detergent is available on the first-floor. Wi-Fi Internet is available throughout 100 West. Pets are not accommodated. Families are not accommodated. Visitors may book brief stays at accommodations in the Carriage District 10-blocks from 100 West. 100 West remains private to residents. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Visual art and writing practices are supported with two large, private 220 square-meter studios for artists, and a 55 square-meter studio for writers. Tool and equipment resources include an intaglio printing press, digital projectors, speakers, and access to a full woodshop. This residency prioritizes a work-focused, quiet, monastic atmosphere without interruption. Engagement with the local community and Dallas-based arts professionals happens occasionally through shared dinners and studio visits. Ceramic and aerosol-based work are not accommodated.Studio / Workspace Constructed as an Odd Fellows Lodge in the 1890s, 100 West is an unaltered building with a private third-floor artist studio in the original Encampment Hall, a private third-floor writing studio in the Encampment Hall’s ante-chamber, and a private second-floor artist studio in a former community meeting hall. A kitchen, dining and living room are shared on the second-floor. A laundry room with machine washer and dryer is on the first-floor. The building is furnished with period and artist-made pieces produced in the first-floor wood shop in the monastic tone defining 100 West’s atmosphere. Expectations for residents’ care of studios do not tolerate any trace of a resident’s practice or work. Drop cloths and underlayment are provided for artists’ preventative care.Fees and support Residents are granted: - Fully-funded, private, furnished studios with lodging accommodations at 100 West. - Video and photo documentation. - Introductions to Dallas / Forth Worth cultural network at openings and special visits. - Studio visit by regional professional at mid-term for artists. - Access to video projectors and wood shop. - Staff support for logistical coordination. - Engagement with Corsicana’s community of support downtown and Bookstore events. - Transportation to and from Dallas / Fort Worth airports. - Bicycles for Corsicana-based transportation. Funding satisfies all studio and housing accommodations, and public programs. Some grant funding is available for studio materials and production support. Travel, meal, material and research expenses are not funded and are the resident’s responsibility. Accepted applicants who commit to a residency term are responsible for a one-time, non-refundable $200 Administration Fee paid to the residency by November 1, 2026. No additional costs to attend. Expectations towards the artist Residents are expected to be self-directed and self-sufficient in their studio work without technical or production assistance.Residents agree to participate in these public programs: PRESENTATION: second Thursday of residency: 20-minutes, Artists project image / video / slideshow of past work. Writers give readings.OPEN STUDIOS: last Saturday of residency from 12 – 4 PM. Application information Artist Applicants submit 5 examples of work.
