Spring Art Residency on the Argentine Coast Deadline: 10 Aug 2026 Country: Argentina The program seeks to foster and support artistic research and practices that connect sensory production with critical thought, and that are capable of bringing their questions and imaginaries into dialogue. The residency is conceived as a space for experimenting with other ways of becoming together among living beings, in conversation with the territory, its materialities, and the human and more-than-human worlds that inhabit it, as a micropolitics of resistance. The residency will last a total of 15 days. Participants will be provided with shared mixed-gender accommodation, meals, workspaces, and a program of activities including guided field visits led by specialists, as well as other activities and practices specifically designed to support the development of participants’ projects. Weather permitting, the residency will also include an overnight field trip to the Dr. Eduardo P. Tonni Centinela del Mar Scientific Station, organized in collaboration with the Azara Foundation, where participants will engage in fieldwork. Duration of residency The residency program has a duration of 15 days. Accommodation La Zona’s house and studio are located in a forest area of El Marquesado, approximately 40 km from the center of Mar del Plata. The residency accommodates up to three artists in shared mixed-gender bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities, a fully equipped kitchen, and multiple indoor and outdoor workspaces. The main house includes a studio, a library, and a reading room on the ground floor. Adjacent to the house is a workshop that serves as both a workspace and a multipurpose area. While each resident develops their own project, we encourage collective moments of exchange as a way of fostering connections between participants and their practices. Cooking, cleaning, and the general upkeep of the space are shared responsibilities among residents and organizers. These everyday tasks are also understood as opportunities for social exchange and for experimenting with other ways of organizing life in common. The residency does not provide Wi-Fi. What initially began as a limitation due to poor connectivity has become a deliberate choice. We invite residents to spend these 15 days open to other forms of connection through embodied presence. However, should a resident require internet access, the nearby city of Miramar offers numerous cafés with Wi-Fi. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance This is a multidisciplinary residency program open to national and international artists from all disciplines, as well as creative practitioners, musicians, writers, curators, researchers, and scientists. Residents are encouraged to challenge their usual practices and to develop projects or research in an environment removed from urban centers and in close dialogue with the forces of the surrounding landscape. Proposals that demonstrate a critical perspective, an experimental approach, and a willingness to engage with the territory and its surrounding community will be especially valued. La Zona provides curatorial, contextual, and logistical support throughout the residency, culminating in an open studio, process presentation, or public conversation with the local community at the end of the program.Studio / Workspace A 60 m² workspace for a wide range of uses, including studio-based and performance practices. The space is equipped with a traditional clay stove that provides heating during the winter months. The upper floor includes an additional bedroom, as well as a bathroom and kitchen. The main house: the ground floor includes the studio, library, and living room. The upper floor features a spacious shared bedroom, along with a bathroom and kitchen.Fees and support The residency fee is: USD 750 – 15-day residency (shared accommodation) The residency fee includes: Accommodation Access to indoor and outdoor studio spaces Curatorial, contextual, and logistical support Coordination and project meetings Photographic documentation of the residency process Exploration activities throughout the residency The residency fee does not include: Meals Transportation Visas Specific work materials Health insurance Cooking and the maintenance of the space are carried out collectively by residents and coordinators as a way of fostering social exchange and building shared forms of living. For those who are unable to cover the full residency fee, La Zona offers the possibility of discussing individual circumstances and exploring alternative funding options. Applicants are invited to include a brief additional statement in their application explaining their interest in participating and outlining their specific circumstances. Expectations towards the artist Residents are expected to: Develop the proposed project or research, while remaining open to its possible directions and evolutions. Contribute to a respectful, collaborative, and relaxed living environment. Participate in shared tasks related to cooking, cleaning, and the maintenance of the space. If selected, participants must pay a deposit to secure their place. Otherwise, the position will be offered to applicants on the waiting list.
