Gil Society Residency – Iceland – open call 2027 Deadline: 15 Aug 2026 Country: Iceland Gil Artist Residency is open for applications for one-month or two-month stays in January to December 2027. Application deadline is August 15th 2026. Gil Artist Residency is an Artist in Residence Program located in Akureyri, North Iceland. We are located in the town center, in the Art Street where the Art Museum and several galleries, artist studios, restaurants and bars are located. At the end of the street is the shore of Eyjafjörður, a beautiful mountain view of the fjord. Akureyri is a small town with an easy access to open nature. We can accommodate one or two artists, in a private apartment with a studio, fully equipped kitchen & bathroom and a gallery for final events & exhibitions. Our exhibition space Deiglan is next door and has an internal access from the studio. Duration of residency We offer a one-month or a two-month residency depending on the artists application. Each residency starts on the 1st of each month and ends at the end of each month (30. – 31st). If an artist applies for a two-month stay it is from the end is on the 30. – 31.st of the second month. Accommodation Accommodation We can accommodate one or two artists, in a private apartment with a studio, fully equipped kitchen & bathroom and a gallery for final events & exhibitions. Our exhibition space Deiglan is next door and has an internal access from the studio. The appartment/studio is provided with wifi, two work desks, shelves, closet, an easel, one and a half size bed and a sofa bed for guests. Travel, transport, visa, daily living expenses, medical insurance and production are not included.Unfortunately we don’t offer any grants but we offer a formal letter of invitation for applications elsewhere.Studio / Workspace The studio is very bright with a window in the ceiling. Basic equipment is available in the studio. Every artist brings their own materials, one can also purchase in Akureyri.Fees and support Monthly fee is 800 EUR for one artist per month. Additional fee for second artist/partner/guest is 400 EUR per month.The price for a stay in Gil Artist Residency is determined by the Gilfélag board with a consultation of the selection committee for each year. This is a monthly fee for one artist, two artists and a confirmation/deposit.After the artists have been notified a deposit of 200 EUR is required within two weeks.Remaining fees are due 90 days before the start of the residency.Cancellation policy:90 days before start of residency, all fees except for the deposit is refunded.60 days before start of residency, 50% is refunded.Cancellations after 60 days are not refunded.The Gilfélag board reserves the right to make exceptions in extreme circumstances. Expectations towards the artist: The artists are expected to give a presentation and/or exhibit their work at our gallery Deiglan. Generally the last weekend of each month is allocated for the artist in residence.
