KuBa Residency – Season 2027 Deadline: 15 Jan 2027 Country: Germany KuBa: kulturbahnhof, Klein Warnow – A place of motion and emotion a particular program for inspiration, dialogue & cooperation, open to the challenges of our time. KuBa: kulturbahnhof is located on the site of a former train station in the village of Klein Warnow (Brandenburg), on the Berlin-Hamburg railway. The residency program offers artists, writers and cultural scientists a place to work, create and experiment. The interaction with this unique location is an essential element of the project. The artistic directors of KuBa: kulturbahnhof are Sharon Horodi and Mika Maria Kammerer. The two are artists, active in the field of painting, printing, video, photography, performance-art and creative writing. Both have many years of experience in curating exhibitions and artistic events, community based art projects and trans-cultural exchange programs. A train station is a place of transition. It holds stories of arrival and departure, of anticipation, memory, joy, and longing. Like art itself, it exists between the intimate and the collective, connecting people, places, and ideas. Our vision is to create a residency that nurtures focused individual practice while encouraging meaningful encounters—with fellow residents, the local environment, and the cultural heritage of the site. KuBa: kulturbahnhof continues to evolve through the people who inhabit it. Every artist, writer, and cultural practitioner leaves traces of their perspective, experience, and imagination, becoming part of an ever-growing collective narrative. Duration of residency The duration of the residency is 4 weeks. Two residency-units are available for each period. Individuals or artist couples/duos may apply. The residency begins with a one-day methodical training which focuses on self-management and on the specification of personal goals that the participants wish to achieve during their stay. A one-time coaching session can be arranged if required. Project presentations are offered at the end of the stay. Accommodation Each resident is provided with a private apartment of approximately 50 m², thoughtfully designed to combine living and working in one comfortable space. Every apartment includes a bedroom, a separate workspace, a private bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen, allowing artists to settle into a focused daily rhythm. Guests also have access to Wi-Fi, a shared washing machine, and everything needed for an extended stay. A large wood-burning stove heats each apartment, filling the space with warmth and creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere throughout the colder months. Beyond the apartments, residents have access to a shared studio, a fully equipped workshop, and an expansive outdoor area with a thriving permaculture garden—spaces for making, gathering, and reconnecting with nature. The entire station complex is protected as a listed cultural heritage site. Residents are encouraged to engage creatively with the location and its history, and temporary interventions or modifications are welcome, provided the historical fabric of the site is respected and preserved. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance The call is open for: painters, sculptures, new media, sound, photographers, performance artists, dancers, writers and video/film makers. Shared Facilities: Studio 55m² with basic material (paper, colors etc) wood workshop with tools (jigsaw, drill etc.), b/w printer, basic light equipment, video projector and more. Printing press for Monotype, Dry Point, Etching, Wood Cut and similar techniques, Black and white photo laboratory (only for experienced photographers)Studio / Workspace Our main studio is approximately 50 square meters and is divided into three areas: • A printing area • A working area • A library. Additionally, we have a separate black and white photo laboratory (only for experienced photographers), a wood workshop and many rooms for installation/presentation. The facilities are open 24/7Fees and support Prices for the duration of 4 weeks Singles: 650,00€ Couples/Duos: 850,00€ Expectations towards the artist KuBa is a process-oriented residency. We do not expect artists to complete a finished project during their stay. Instead, we encourage experimentation, exploration, and engaging with longer-term creative processes. We hope residents will use their time to focus on creativity, research, and experimentation. While the residency offers space for rest and renewal, it is not intended solely as a retreat to recharge. We also value an open, friendly, and supportive atmosphere. We expect all residents to approach one another with respect, curiosity, and a willingness to contribute to a shared living and working environment. One of our main expectations is that artists remain at the residency for the full month. We kindly ask residents not to plan trips to Berlin, Hamburg, or other destinations during their stay. If you wish to visit these cities, we recommend doing so before or after the residency.
