Art in the Paradise that is Kenya – taking applications now Open Call Country: Kenya Olepangi Artist-in-Residence Program Olepangi is a soulful place, nestled in the foothills of Mt Kenya, 1 degree north of the equator in Kenya, East Africa. Bordering millions of acres of wildlife conservancies, Olepangi is a haven for quiet contemplation and creativity. The farm is also the site for an award-winning small lodge for those seeking shorter-term visits and cottages/ semi-permanent tents for longer-term stays, all creating a dynamic and intellectually stimulating community of people both from Kenya and all over the world. Olepangi is set on 90 acres, with more than two acres under organic cultivation for farm-to-table eating, 14 horses for riding out into the local community or on the neighbouring conservancy and quiet paths for walking and introspection. This is a special part of the world; perfect for connection and creativity. The farm is near to some of the more outstanding attractions in Kenya, including Samburu National Reserve, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Lolldaigas, climbs up Mt Kenya, Ngare Ndare Forest plus much more. Elephant, giraffe, zebra and other plains game are regularly sited from the farm across the valley. Find out more at: www.olepangifarm.com Duration of residency Our residency programs are a minimum of six weeks to three months in duration (longer by mutual agreement.) We expect artists to engage in at least one community activity/project to be defined and agreed at the beginning of the residency. This might include a series of talks or engagement in art with one of the local schools we support or short apprenticeships with local people in the area. The options are endless. Accommodation Accommodation for artists and partners is in semi-permanent tents with en-suite bathrooms and solar hot-water heated showers. The tents are nestled on a hillside overlooking a beautiful valley where elephants and wildlife often come. The farm is completely off-grid but there is reliable power and internet connectivity in the communal spaces. Please note there is no mains electricity or wifi in the tents.All daily meals are cooked and served in our beautiful, small lodge by our amazing kitchen team. The food is stunning; fresh, organic and healthy. With this mind, we ask that artists engage with guests during at least one meal a day by sharing aspects of their work and contributing to stimulating conversation. This is typically not an issue as the lodge tends to attract some of the most interesting people from all over the world.Your private tent will be cleaned at least once a week. Linens are provided. Laundry is done weekly. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance About our Residency Program:Our residency program is ideal for those seeking the time and mental space to investigate new ideas and deepen existing artistic inquiries. Our aperture on the definition of art is wide. We are open to thinkers and creatives and will consider anyone with deep interest and already well-developed skill in visual arts, writing, culinary arts, composers, musicians, scholars, filmmakers, architects and more.Studio / Workspace Available resources Artists perch overlooking the valley with table and chair.
