Call for artists 2027 open! Deadline: 20 Dec 2026 Country: Spain The Alpujarra Art Residency provides an environment where artists can focus on creating, experimenting, and growing. A retreat away from your familiar surroundings, where you can gain fresh perspectives and enjoy uninterrupted creative time. A better suited location than the Alpujarra is hardly imaginable, with its lovely white villages, the peace and quiet of rural surroundings, the stunning mountains and valleys and the spectacular views over the Mediterranean. Duration of residency a minimum of 2 weeks to 2 months maximum Accommodation There are two rooms available in Casa 3 where artists will stay for the duration of their residency. Both rooms have their own bathroom, toilet, airconditioning and an outdoor space. There is a shared kitchen, a washing machine and fibre internet. There is free parking 50 meters from Casa 3. Accomodation is not free, but we keep our prices at a minimum to make a residency available for everyone. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance We encourage artists of all disciplines to come and feed their creativity in Polopos. We provide a space for rest, inspiration and renewed creativity. This can be for musicians, writers, painters, movie makers, photographers you name it! We do not have all of the tools for making ceramics or iron work in our own studio but Polopos is the perfect place to prepare pigments, make sketches and plan for ceramic pieces when you get back home.Studio / Workspace There are two studios available in the residency, according to your branch of art you will be allocated with a space best suited for your needs. Each artist staying in the Alpujarras artist residence gets their own private studio space. There are a few materials provided that can be used, paints, colored pencils, paper, fabrics etc. Please let us know before you come what you would need for your art and we can see if we have what you need.Fees and support The fee for a residency is €175 per week. It is possible to bring a partner for €100 per week extra. Expectations towards the artist Selection Considerations While we welcome applications from all artists, we’d like to share some insights about what we typically look for to help guide your application. Please note that none of these are absolute requirements – we encourage all artists to apply regardless of background or practice. These guidelines simply offer insight into what has worked well in our village setting: Quality of artistic work is our primary consideration Spanish language skills are helpful for connecting with our welcoming local community Our village neighbors are wonderfully open-minded, and we tend to favor art that resonates with or is accessible to the local community We find residencies of 2 weeks to 2 months work particularly well At the end of your residency we encourage artists to do an exhibition or a talk about their work, however this is not obligatory and only if the artist chooses to do so. Application information As you will become part of our small mountain community, we’d like to introduce you properly to our village neighbors. Please submit your application as a single A4 page (physical or digital format) that includes: A brief personal introduction telling us about yourself An artist statement describing your practice What you hope to achieve or work on during your residency A photo of yourself If applicable, a photo of one of your artworks This format allows us to share your introduction with the local community and helps everyone get to know you before your arrival. We accept applications in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Dutch. Following our initial review, selected applicants will be invited to a Zoom call where we can meet each other personally and ensure we’re a good mutual fit. We welcome applications from artists working in all mediums and look forward to supporting your creative journey in this inspiring location.
