Sarah Butler | ICD Program 26 / 27 Aug 16, 2026 | Workshops A one-week session with Sarah Butler combining guided improvisation, movement research and the transmission of choreographic material from her repertoire. Part of the NOD International Contemporary Dance Program and open to only 5 external dancers. Apply now! Where: NOD Nuova Officina della Danza , Via Mantova 34 Torino – Italy When: Nov. 23 – Nov. 27, 2026 Deadline for applications: As long as there is space. The number of participants is limited. First come first serve. This workshop will serve as an opportunity to dig into our approach to both improvisation and codified form. Beginning with guided improvisation, we will wake up the body & our creative impulses, focusing on shift of weight, awareness and presence in space, and how commitment to imagination can inform movement. We will then build and workshop original choreographed material, taking discoveries from our movement research and housing them inside a specific form. We will play with isolations, musicality, sense of humor, voice, and explore how our personal approach can amplify the material while maintaining the integrity of the choreography. Bio Sarah Butler likes making things. Working with movement, theater, film, wearable structure, and vocal harmonies, she is interested in exploring how the weaving of seemingly separate mediums can result in something surprising and honest. She was a founding member of Ate9 Dance Company from 2012 – 2020 & has worked closely with choreographer Tom Weinberger since 2021. She has taught, assisted, and/or staged work with GöteborgsOperans DansKompani, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Iceland Dance Company, K3 Hamburg, MASS MOCA, Bad Lemons, NSP2, Tanzfabrik Berlin, & more. Sarah is currently developing The Hayrake Ballet in the US, a site-specific performance featuring farmers, large-scale farm machinery, and live orchestra set to premiere in 2026. She is based in Berlin, Germany.
