ACENTRICSPACE® ARTIST RESIDENCY 2027 SPRING / SUMMER OPEN CALL Deadline: 28 Feb 2027 Country: China Founded in 2017, ACENTRICSPACE is an independent art space and artist residency located in Zhujiajiao, Shanghai. The residency provides artists with a place to live, work, exchange, and present their work within an independent artistic environment. Rather than prescribing a specific theme or requiring a particular outcome, the residency gives artists time and space to continue their existing practice, develop new research, or respond to the cultural and social context of a different place. Since its establishment, ACENTRICSPACE has hosted more than 200 artists from over 30 countries and regions. Artists working across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video, and other contemporary practices have developed projects here while engaging with artists, cultural practitioners, and audiences in the local community. The residency is not simply a studio. It is a period of time dedicated to living and working within a different artistic context. ACENTRICSPACE accepts applications throughout the year. We welcome contemporary artists at different stages of their careers, from emerging artists continuing their practice after completing their formal education to established artists looking to develop their work or research within a new cultural and geographical context. Artists may apply for a residency of one, two, or three months. During the residency, artists have access to private accommodation and an individual studio. They are free to organize their working process according to their own practice and schedule, while having opportunities to meet and exchange with artists and cultural practitioners in Zhujiajiao. There is no prescribed theme, curriculum, or required artistic outcome. Artists may continue an ongoing project, develop new work, or use their time in Shanghai to explore new ideas and directions within their practice. Duration of residency 1 to 3 months Accommodation Artists stay within the ACENTRICSPACE residency space. The accommodation includes basic shared living facilities such as a kitchen and laundry facilities, allowing artists to live and work within the same environment during their stay. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Disciplines: Visual Art, Sculpture, Ceramics, Dance, Theatre, Printmaking, Performing Arts, Music, Literature, New Media, Animation, Filmmaking, Architecture, Curatorial, and Photography. Equipment: There is a wide variety of tools/equipment availableStudio / Workspace Each resident is provided with an individual studio for the duration of the residency. The studios can accommodate a range of practices, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video, and other forms of contemporary art. Artists are generally responsible for sourcing and purchasing their own materials and specialized equipment. ACENTRICSPACE can provide assistance with local material sourcing, production, and finding appropriate resources when needed.Fees and support 1 MONTH: RMB 7700 2 MONTHS: RMB 15000 3 MONTHS: RMB 22000 The residency fee includes: Accommodation Individual studio Shared living facilities Basic residency support Opportunity to present work through the residency exhibition program The residency fee does not include: International or domestic transportation Visa fees Food and personal living expenses Art materials Specialized production costs Other personal expenses Expectations towards the artist Artists have the opportunity to present work or research developed during their residency through ACENTRICSPACE’s exhibition program. Typically: 1–2-month residencies Artists may participate in a group exhibition with other residents. 3-month residencies Artists may choose to present an individual project or solo exhibition. Exhibition participation is not mandatory. Artists can decide whether to participate according to the development of their work and their own practice.
