The juried exhibition exemplifies works of art from artists within a 200-mile radius of Roanoke College. All fine arts media are accepted for submission, including, but not limited to, painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, photography, ceramics, printmaking, mixed media, textiles, video, and film. Biennial Awards First Place- $1,000.00 Second Place-$800.00 Third Place-$600.00 Community Choice-$400.00 CALENDAR August 3, 2026 - Applications open October 30, 2026 - Deadline for entries November 20, 2026 - Accepted artists notified by ArtCall January 6-9, 2027- Artists deliver artwork to Olin Hall Galleries between 10:00 am-6:00 p.m. January 22 - Reception from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall Galleries. Juror Awards announced at 7:00 p.m. March 14- Show closes at 4:00 p.m. March 15-17 - Artists pick-up artwork from Olin Hall Galleries between 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. ELIGIBILITY Artists within a 200-mile radius of Roanoke College can submit up to three works of art in any medium. All artwork must be original and completed within the last three years. There are no submission fees for the 2027 Juried Biennial. MEDIA All fine arts media are accepted including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, photography, ceramics, printmaking, mixed media, textiles, video and film. SALES Olin Hall Galleries is a non-profit organization and no commission will apply for works sold from this exhibition. Visitors can contact a gallery representative if they have an interest in purchasing artwork from the 2027 Biennial Exhibition. The interested visitor's contact information will be forwarded to the artist. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY All 2D works must be prepared for installation with proper hanging mechanisms. Sculpture must be portable and weigh less than 150 lbs. Olin Hall Galleries reserves the right to reject any entry that does not follow these guidelines. REQUIRED All accepted work must be hand delivered to Olin Hall Galleries (240 High Street, Salem VA, 24153). Artwork drop-off dates and times are Wednesday, January 6 to Saturday, January 9 to between 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. All exhibited work must be picked up from Olin Hall Galleries. Artwork pick-up dates and times are Monday, March 15 to Wednesday, March 17 between 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Juror Betsy Johnson is an Assistant Curator at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden with responsibility for overseeing the photography and works-on-paper collections. At the Hirshhorn, she has curated Tony Lewis: Anthology 2014–2016 (2018); The Evidence Room (2019); Feel the Sun in Your Mouth: Recent Acquisitions (2019); Toyin Ojih Odutola: A Countervailing Theory (2021); One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama in the Hirshhorn Collection (2022); A Window Suddenly Opens: Contemporary Photography in China (2022), Jessica Diamond: Wheel Of Life (2023), Basquiat x Banksy (2024), and Revolutions: Art from the Hirshhorn Collection, 1860-1960 (2024), which she co-curated with Marina Isgro. Johnson completed her B.A. in Integrative Arts and M.A. in Art History at the Pennsylvania State University and is ABD in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland, currently writing her dissertation on American conceptual artist Robert Barry.
