MERZ three-six month residencies Deadline: 25 Nov 2026 Country: United Kingdom Several international artists in residence at MERZ in South West Scotland have been able to continue their employment via the Internet. These artists have stayed well beyond the one month of the standard residency option. This Open Call explores the possibility for artists, writers and architects who would like a longer residency, to work on a substantial body of work to exhibit at MERZ or to publish and – as appropriate – to be involved in a fuller film record of working and research during their stay. Duration of residency Three months or longer Accommodation MERZ accommodation is self-catering across three buildings, suitable for single occupancy, a couple sharing or at no 5 with individual rooms. Artists are not invited to share housing unless coming as a group of two or a maximum of three. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance MERZ supports artists, writers and architects and subject to negotiation provides equipment and appropriate work settings including studios.Studio / Workspace The Museum of Model Art and MERZ gallery serve as studios/workspaces until the artists in residency exhibit. In addition no 5 has a ground floor studio and MoMA has the adjacent ZIP studio suitable for messier activities. The grounds of MERZ and MoMA offer outdoor work opportunities. All buildings have fast WiFi and TV reception.Fees and support The current monthly fee for accommodation is subject to negotiation for stays of three months or longer …. Expectations towards the artist The artist, writer or architect is not obliged to exhibit, to give talks, or engage with the community artists or to be filmed. But … the exhibition, promotion, possible catalogue and film are part of the unique MERZ proposition. And … of course the time spent on creative activity will vary depending on time allocated to income generation. Longer stay artists have used the opportunity at MERZ to change direction, consolidate their practice and to complete novels and children’s books.
