Please have high resolution, digital photos of your work. 1. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces of their own personal work for consideration. Posthumous submissions are not allowed. 2. Please do not submit artwork that has been previously exhibited at the MSV or the Member’s Show at t… ArtScape is ShenArts’ annual public art program that transforms the streets of Downtown Winchester into a vibrant outdoor gallery. Each year, artwork by local and regional artists is reproduced on banners displayed throughout downtown, bringing color, creativity, and inspiration to the Winchester Walking Mall. These banners brighten the spaces we pass through every day while making art accessible to everyone. ArtScape celebrates the incredible talent within our community and creates opportunities for thousands of residents and visitors to connect with art in an unexpected and welcoming way. Selected original works are also featured in a corresponding gallery exhibition. - Artists may submit up to three pieces of their own original work for consideration. Posthumous submissions are not accepted. - Artists of any age or level of experience may apply. - Artists do not have to live in Winchester but should reside within the geographic region served by ShenArts. - Please do not submit artwork that has previously been exhibited at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley or in the Members Show at Barns of Rose Hill. - Preference will be given to artwork that works well within the dimensions of an ArtScape banner. Square artwork is ideal, followed by vertically oriented work. Please avoid horizontally oriented pieces when possible. - Artwork may be cropped or placed over a complementary background color to fit the banner format, at the discretion of the banner designer. - If your medium is not listed on the submission form, select “Other” and contact ShenArts at info@shenarts.orgbefore submitting so we can confirm that the work is eligible. - Any accepted piece delivered for exhibition must be the original artwork represented in the submitted image. Reproductions of traditionally created artwork, including giclée prints of paintings, drawings, photographs, or other physical works, are not accepted as the exhibited original. - Giclée prints are accepted only when the submitted artwork was created digitally as an original digital work. Digital artwork must be created by the artist using digital drawing, painting, illustration, photography, or design tools as an intentional part of the artist’s creative process. - ShenArts does not accept artwork generated entirely or partially using artificial intelligence. This includes work created with generative AI tools or images based on AI-generated elements, even if the image has been edited or altered by the submitting artist. - Artwork must be original and must not reproduce copyrighted or trademarked material. This includes cartoon or anime characters, logos, branded imagery, or images copied from magazines, newspapers, websites, photographs, or another artist’s work. - Artwork imagery must be appropriate for display in a public community space. - Accepted artwork must be delivered ready to hang. Each piece must include secure hanging hardware on the back. D-rings with hanging wire are strongly preferred. Please do not use sawtooth hangers. - Although every reasonable effort will be made to protect submitted artwork, ShenArts is not responsible for damage or breakage.
