Self-funded Creative Residency (Ongoing deadline) O Castro welcomes artists, writers, researchers, and creative practitioners of all disciplines for stays of flexible duration, from two weeks to two months. The residency is self-funded: residents cover the cost of their own stay. In return, you get space, solitude, community, and a landscape that inspires you to create your next great work. You will live in a climate-controlled geodesic dome with a full bathroom, surrounded by forest. Dinners are often prepared and shared collectively using fresh local produce. Wine comes from a vineyard below your feet. You will have access to a gorgeous studio loft on site, high speed internet, the daily rhythm of an active creative community, film screenings, forest walks, hammocks on hilltops, a vibrant community of creatives, and the chance to engage with the local rural communities of the Ribeira Sacra. There is no prescribed outcome. What you make here, and how, is entirely yours. Sound Artist in Residence (Deadline 5 July 2026) O Castro Art Village is an abandoned rural settlement in the Ribeira Sacra, Galicia. The ruins amplify, absorb, and transform sound in ways no built studio can replicate. The organisers are inviting one sound artist or musician to spend 30 days here during October 2026 to develop a permanent sound installation across the village, accessible through QR codes placed at specific points in the landscape. Not a guided tour: a second presence, a sonic layer that visitors find as they move through the site. October changes this place: the forest floor softens with rain, migrating birds pass through, the valley fills with morning fog. You will be recording in a landscape at the height of its seasonal transition. The installation remains permanently at O Castro after your departure. You will work alongside a visual artist and architect in residence, mentored by filmmaker Davoud Gerami, and live in a climate-controlled geodesic dome with a full bathroom inside the same forest you will be recording. O Castro Art Village is an abandoned rural settlement in the Ribeira Sacra, one of the most biologically and culturally dense landscapes in northwestern Spain. The organisers are inviting one architect to spend 30 days here during October 2026; not to rebuild, but to look, to measure, and to develop a site-specific spatial intervention study rooted in this place: its vernacular stone construction, its forest, its particular relationship between what was built and what grows. The outcome; drawings, models, or any format native to your practice, will remain as part of O Castro's permanent research archive. You will work alongside a visual artist and sound artist in residence, mentored by filmmaker and artistic director Davoud Gerami, and the principle architect of the project Oscar López Alba from Ola Estudio. You will live in a climate-controlled geodesic dome with a full bathroom surrounded by forest. Eight traditional stone houses in ruin, two hectares of forest, a landscape dense with memory and biological life. The organisers are inviting one visual or mixed-media artist, with a particular interest in video or expanded image practices to spend 30 days here during October 2026 and develop a permanent installation integrated into the ruins or the landscape. October in the Ribeira Sacra: the vines turn red across the terraced hillsides, the chestnuts fall, the light becomes horizontal by mid-afternoon. It is the season when growth and decay are equally present, and equally available as material. The work should be durably installed and designed to remain in place. We strongly encourage the use of reclaimed and native materials. You will work in close dialogue with a sound artist and an architect-in-residence, mentored by filmmaker Davoud Gerami, and live in a climate-controlled geodesic dome with a full bathroom, surrounded by forest.
