Verãozão / Summer Residency

Verãozão / Summer Residency Deadline: 29 Oct 2026 Country: Brazil Verãozão was born from the desire to create a time of pause, away from urban routines, where rest can also become a space for creation. The residency proposes a collective immersion at Fazenda São João, surrounded by the Atlantic Forest, organic coffee production, agroecological food grown by neighboring producers, waterfalls, and a lake. In this context, residents share an intense period of togetherness that unfolds through encounters, conversations, and actions, with food and the table as spaces for gathering and exchange. At Verãozão, in addition to the people selected through this open call, we also welcome invited artists, strengthening a network of collaboration that has been growing for more than a decade. All activities are collectively developed based on proposals from residents and facilitators. At the same time, each participant’s individuality is always respected: there is no obligation to participate in everything. Bring your desires, your proposal, and your questions — whatever your language or artistic practice! Duration of residency 2 weeks Accommodation The residency takes place in two neighboring spaces: the Sede of Fazenda São João and Casa Figueira, a former stable that has been renovated and converted into a permanent residency space. Casa Figueira has four rooms, which can be either single or double, as well as spacious shared work areas and outdoor leisure spaces. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance What we offer ____ Shared accommodation at the “Sede”, the main farmhouse built in 1853, with shared rooms accommodating 2 to 4 people, and at “Casa Figueira”, with double or single rooms. Casa Figueira is approximately a 10-minute walk from the Sede and accommodates up to 8 people. ____ Work and communal spaces, including a studio for visual artists, basic sound-recording facilities, large outdoor areas, a garden, an orchard, and a small chapel for more intimate explorations. ____ Full board, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. ____ Collective practice of body, breath, movement, and voice, a 7-day cycle facilitated by Neus Borrell. ____ Tantric therapy — a 7-day cycle with daily active meditation sessions and individual tantric therapy sessions with Renê Caffaro and/or Monaliza Marchi. ____ Closing event open to the local public, featuring projects, research, and works developed during the residency. ____ Dissemination of the processes and outcomes of the immersion through the RSJ website and social media.Studio / Workspace Work and communal spaces, including a studio for visual artists, basic sound-recording facilities, large outdoor areas, a garden, an orchard, and a small chapel for more intimate explorations. The collective activities will be divided into two 7-day cycles. The first cycle will be facilitated by Neus Borrell Mateu, a singer, composer, and musicologist, and director of Centre de Creació Can Bonamic, a space located in Montseny, Catalonia, dedicated to research, practice, and creation around the voice and the body. The second cycle will be led by therapists Renê Caffaro and Monaliza Marchi. Renê has a degree in Physiotherapy and studied Acupuncture, Reiki, and Tantra, developing his own therapeutic approach based on these practices and his sensibility. Monaliza is a model, artist, and tantric therapist. She researches listening to the body and sensing as pathways to creation, healing, and transformation. Together, they facilitate practices focused on chakra activation, deep relaxation, affection, and inner connection.Fees and support The residency is an independent, artist-run, non-profit project that relies on sharing the costs generated by the project itself — the famous fee, which does not involve profit. We can provide an invitation letter for selected residents who wish to seek funding or apply independently to grants and funding programs. In some cases, we may also initiate a dialogue in this direction, including exploring ways to make participation possible in future editions. We continue to work toward expanding the project’s social, racial, and territorial inclusion by offering 2 full scholarships and 2 50% scholarships for people belonging to the following groups: Black and/or Indigenous people; trans people and/or gender-dissident people; and people from peripheral areas, smaller cities or rural regions, or people in refugee situations. (ONLY FOR BRAZILIANS) Fees Verãozão’s fees are defined based on the concepts of the Global North and Global South, understood here not as strictly geographical categories, but as references to historical and economic inequalities between different countries and regions of the world. The concept of the Global South has emerged, among other perspectives, as an alternative to the idea of “developing countries,” seeking to recognize historical relationships of economic inequality and the unequal purchasing power of currencies in accessing resources and opportunities. Our fee policy starts from this context to create different contribution levels and thereby expand access to the residency for people living in contexts with lower purchasing power and fewer available resources. At the same time, the existence of a higher contribution level allows participants in more economically privileged contexts to contribute to the sustainability of the project and, indirectly, to the participation of people with fewer resources. In short: those who can contribute more help make it possible for those who can contribute less to participate. Shared rooms, with 2 to 4 beds per room ____ Solidarity fee* — Global North: R$ 5,000 ____ Regular fee — Global North: R$ 4,600 ____ Solidarity fee* — Global South: R$ 3,500 ____ Regular fee — Global South: R$ 3,000 For those interested in a private room, an additional 30% will be charged. * Solidarity fee: contributes to the maintenance and infrastructure of the space, as well as supporting our scholarship policy. Children are welcome and pay 50% of the fee. Not included ____ Transportation to and from Fazenda São João. We will assist participants in organizing shared transportation and/or carpooling. ____ Alcoholic beverages. Craft beer produced by neighboring Cervejaria Invisível, at the farm itself, can be purchased, or participants may bring other beverages of their choice. Expectations towards the artist The residence focuses on the process. All activities are collectively developed based on proposals from residents and facilitators. At the same time, each participant’s individuality is always respected: there is no obligation to participate in everything. We organize a closing event open to the local public, featuring projects, research, and works developed during the residency.
