Gorgeous Winter Retreat on Vancouver Island Deadline: 28 Aug 2026 Country: Canada Described by artists as “thoughtfully designed and deeply supportive,” The Ou is an intimate artist residency + writing retreat curated to support creatives in their artistic journey on Vancouver Island, British Columbia; a stunning place surrounded by gorgeous coastlines and temperate rainforests. Devote space and time to your creativity by coming here to decompress, recharge, and gather inspiration alongside like-minded artists and writers. An independent and process based residency, The Ou-Telier is a place for you to decompress, experiment, research and play. We love hosting folks who are self-directed, focused and kind, and our hope is that you will leave the residency feeling rested, renewed and inspired. Duration of residency 2 weeks Accommodation Artists stay in a private bedroom in a beautifully appointed shared suite equipped with a kitchen, bathroom and great room with fireplace that overlooks a year-round creek and towering cedars. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance We welcome applications from emerging + established writers, painters, photographers, textile + 2D artists.Studio / Workspace Artists have 24/hr access to their own designated studio space. Each space is 10’ x 20’ (approx. 250 square feet) in a 100-year-old boatbuilding workshop with big windows, open rafters and fir floorsFees and support $1,300 CAD + 5% GST for two weeks Expectations towards the artist Artists are responsible for preparing their own meals and keeping shared areas tidy. On departure, they are expected to clean their room and studio space. There are no formal expectations for producing or sharing work; this is a time for rest, renewal and experimentation.
