Writer’s Residencies TAKING TIME / PRENDENDO TEMPO, Italy 2026 and 2027 (applications reviewed on rolling basis) Deadline: 01 Oct 2027 Country: Italy APPLY NOW for 2026 and 2027 / residency periods May – October annually Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis / outcome of application is communicated within a week The TAKING TIME / PRENDENDO TEMPO Writer’s Individual Residency Programme is designed to support research, study and/or the development of new work. An Individual Residency provides uninterrupted periods of time in the beautiful environment of Collemacchia in Italy’s Molise region, for centuries home to the family of Tracy Mackenna, curator of The Museum of Loss and Renewal. Ethos Attentiveness, meaningful exchange and slow working are prioritised. Care is an essential value that is extended to our residents, and to the local community. Creatives, scholars and researchers working in all disciplines are welcome to join us in residence. There is no expectation of a final residency outcome. Whether you wish simply to be up close to your practice, allow nature to suffuse your thinking and feeling, produce new work or complete a project, at The Museum of Loss and Renewal the utmost will be done to ensure that you can achieve what you set out to do. Residents receive support and informal mentoring from Tracy / Associates during the residency period, and ongoing support often after the residency. Our residents come from around the world, bringing their wonderful personalities, ideas, ways of working, and generosity. You may want to take time out from hectic domestic and/or professional schedules to decelerate or to reconnect with your work, to test thoughts or new materials, perhaps work towards an upcoming exhibition, composition, performance or piece of writing or a publication. Anything is possible, and will be supported. Local community The residency facilities are located in the village of Collemacchia. It is one of twelve ancient villages in the parish of Filignano. Citizens are closely related, and move between the villages and their other homes in places such as Rome, Naples, Paris, Brussels, Melbourne, Glasgow, Philadelphia, Toronto … This is due to historic waves of (return) migration, and each person contributes to our active Filignano community. The multi-lingual community welcomes our residents warmly, whether that be over coffee or a meal in the local Bar run by the delightful Adua, on impromptu mountain walks, in invitations to join the olive harvest, or to participate in local festivals. Knowledge is willingly shared and many of our residents make friends locally, returning to us for multiple periods in residence. The neighbouring large town of Venafro is a railway / intercity bus hub, and from Collemacchia/Filignano is easily reached by local bus and taxi. Our region is one of exceptional beauty and is part of the National Park of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise which is abundant with undisturbed forest, flora and fauna. Strong traces of the remarkable Samnite (pre-Roman) and Roman civilisations can be seen and touched in every village and town, and in the land. World-class resources The world-class museums, galleries, bookshops and libraries of Rome and Naples provide additional resource material for our residents and are very easy to access. Take the train from Venafro in the morning, and be back with us in Collemacchia at night. Duration of residency This residency is offered for a minimum of two weeks. Accommodation Residents are accommodated in two comfortable houses situated a couple of minutes walk from each other. Individual residents are allocated a single-occupancy bedroom. Houses have fully equipped kitchens, bathrooms, sitting rooms, and double, twin and single bedrooms. Central heating and internet throughout. Cleaning is included in cost.  Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Applications are open to all creative practitioners who engage in 'writing', such as writers, visual artists, film makers, performance artists, curators, designers, musicians, theatre-makers, and researchers who work either individually or collaboratively. Groups are welcomed.Studio / Workspace Studio spaces are located in buildings that are situated a couple of minutes walk from each other, and from accommodation. They are recently renovated and include indoor and outdoor making spaces, and desk space. Internet throughout. Small hand and power tools are available. There is also ample outdoor working space.Fees and support The residency fee is €500 per week, per person. The fee is heavily subsidised and additionally, residents receive support and informal mentoring during the residency period, and ongoing support after the residency. The Residency Programme is operated on a cost-covering basis, and is financially supported by The Museum of Loss and Renewal in order to keep fees low. There is no external funding for this project, so assistance with fees, flights, production costs or other subsistence cannot be offered. Typically, applicants source funding by applying to their national arts funding bodies, by personal fundraising, or through academic institutional support. Letters of Invitation can be provided to assist with this process. A deposit of 50% is payable within three weeks of being offered a place on the residency programme (non-refundable). The remaining balance is payable eight weeks in advance of the residency start date (or earlier depending on period between acceptance and start date). In the event that cancellation is required, residents may cancel up to a minimum of six weeks prior to their residency start date. If a resident has to end the residency early due to personal circumstances, a refund cannot not be issued. Residents are responsible for funding and organising their travel, insurances and any visa requirements particular to country of origin. Expectations towards the artist Each residency provides time for reflection, research or production with no expectation of a final outcome. The Museum of Loss and Renewal’s Curator and Associates do their utmost to ensure that each resident can achieve what they set out to do.
