Curatorial Fellowship Residency Deadline: 28 Sep 2026 Country: United States The Gallery 14C Curatorial Fellowship is a 12-month live/work residency for an emerging or established curator who will serve as Gallery 14C’s Curator-in-Residence while participating in the wider Project 14C creative community. The Fellow receives the residency at no cost, with mentorship and support from ARTS 14C. The Curatorial Fellow shapes and oversees Gallery 14C’s four-exhibition annual program, working within two established ARTS 14C exhibitions while having broad creative freedom over the remainder of the year. The program culminates in a Fall Curator’s Exhibition entirely conceived and curated by the Fellow. Gallery 14C is a 4,000-square-foot exhibition space with 12-foot ceilings, concrete floors and an industrial character, with an additional 1,000 square feet of back-of-house space including storage and a kitchen. The gallery presents exhibitions featuring Project 14C residents as well as artists and organizations from the wider arts community. The fellowship is intended for applicants with demonstrated curatorial and/or gallery administration experience who are comfortable with both the creative and practical responsibilities of producing exhibitions and working with artists. The Fellow is also part of Project 14C’s multidisciplinary residency community, living and working alongside artists and creative practitioners from a wide range of disciplines. Duration of residency 12 months Accommodation The Curatorial Fellow receives a private, furnished live/work loft studio within the Project 14C residency facility in Jersey City. The loft serves as both living accommodation and workspace and includes two bathrooms, a kitchenette, dining area, and furnishings. The 12-month live/work residency is provided at no cost to the Curatorial Fellow in recognition of their year-long responsibility for Gallery 14C’s exhibition program. Residents also have access to shared amenities including community kitchens, laundry facilities on each floor, a gym, private resident lobby and elevators, and shared creative facilities. The building is ADA compliant and pet friendly. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance The Curatorial Fellowship is open to curators and arts professionals with demonstrated curatorial and/or gallery administration experience. Applicants should be comfortable with both the creative and practical responsibilities of developing exhibitions, working with artists, and administering a gallery program. The Curatorial Fellow works primarily in Gallery 14C, a 4,000-square-foot exhibition space with 12-foot ceilings, concrete floors and an industrial character. An additional 1,000-square-foot back-of-house area includes storage and a kitchen. The Fellow receives mentorship and support from ARTS 14C while shaping and overseeing the gallery’s four-show annual exhibition program. They also have access to the broader Project 14C creative community and facilities, working alongside resident artists and creative practitioners from multiple disciplines.Studio / Workspace The Curatorial Fellow has a private furnished live/work loft studio within the Project 14C residency facility, providing dedicated space for both living and independent work. As Gallery 14C’s Curator-in-Residence, the Fellow uses the gallery as their primary professional workspace while developing and overseeing its four-exhibition annual program, with mentorship and support from ARTS 14C.Fees and support The Curatorial Fellow receives a full 12-month live/work residency at no cost in recognition of their year-long responsibility for Gallery 14C’s exhibition program. Residency fee: $0. The fellowship includes furnished live/work accommodation, utilities, Wi-Fi, access to Project 14C facilities and programs, and mentorship and support from ARTS 14C. The Fellow becomes part of Project 14C’s multidisciplinary creative community while serving as Gallery 14C’s Curator-in-Residence. Expectations towards the artist The Curatorial Fellow serves as Gallery 14C’s Curator-in-Residence and is responsible for shaping and overseeing the gallery’s four-exhibition annual program. This includes working within two established ARTS 14C exhibitions and developing original programming for the remainder of the fellowship year. The fellowship culminates in the Fall 2027 Curator’s Exhibition, which is entirely conceived and curated by the Fellow. The Fellow is expected to work directly with artists and take responsibility for both the creative and practical aspects of producing exhibitions and administering the gallery program. The Curatorial Fellow is also expected to be an active member of the Project 14C community, engaging with resident artists and participating in the collaborative life of the residency. There is no separate volunteer-service requirement; the Fellow’s community contribution is fulfilled through their work with Gallery 14C. The application requires: A CV/resumé demonstrating curatorial and/or gallery administration experience. Documentation of exhibitions or arts programs the applicant has curated, organized, or administered. Individual image files should be no larger than 5 MB. A brief statement describing the applicant’s curatorial interests and approach. A preliminary idea or areas of interest for the Fall 2027 Curator’s Exhibition. This does not need to be a fully developed proposal; we want to understand the applicant’s ideas and interests rather than see the entire year of exhibitions predetermined. A brief statement explaining why Project 14C interests the applicant and how they see themselves contributing to the residency community. At least one professional reference who can speak to the applicant’s ability to work with artists and produce exhibitions. Selection is based on the curator, not on a fully developed exhibition proposal. Applicants should demonstrate relevant experience, a strong curatorial point of view, the ability to work effectively with artists and produce exhibitions, and an interest in contributing to Project 14C’s multidisciplinary residency community.
