Whether you’re seeking inspiration, collaboration, or a deep dive into your practice, Nacán provides the perfect setting to nourish your artistic journey. Duration of residency The nacán Art Residency is designed as an uninterrupted creative retreat, offering flexible stays tailored to each artist’s needs. Participants may choose a residency length ranging from one week to three months, depending on availability. Accommodation nacán partners with multiple accommodation providers in the area to offer artists a variety of private lodging options tailored to different needs and budgets. All accommodations are located close to the residency site and provide a comfortable, restful environment to support focused creative work. Seasonal nightly, weekly, and monthly rates are available. We encourage interested artists to contact us with their preferred dates so we can provide current availability and pricing. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance The nacán art residency welcomes artists across a wide range of disciplines, including visual artists, musicians, producers, writers, thinkers, and photographers. Our well-equipped studio space is designed to support both individual and collaborative projects. For painters, we provide essential materials including easels, stools, and basic supplies such as canvas, paint, brushes, and stretcher bars. Additional support is available to help source any specific items artists may need during their stay. Musicians and producers have access to a dedicated music production setup, featuring Kali LP-8 studio monitors, an SSL2+ audio interface (USB and USB-C compatible), an Arturia KeyStep 37 MIDI controller, and both a Shure SM57 dynamic microphone and an sE Electronics XR1 passive ribbon microphone. Artists are encouraged to download any required software or drivers in advance, as internet access in El Valle may be limited. At nacán, we aim to provide the tools and environment that allow artists to immerse themselves fully in their creative practice.Studio / Workspace The nacán studio is a private, well-equipped space designed to harmonize with its tropical forest surroundings, offering artists an immersive and uninterrupted creative environment. It supports both individual and collaborative projects across various artistic disciplines. Thoughtfully designed for acoustic excellence, the studio features absorbers and diffusers that enhance audio clarity and depth, creating a rich 3D auditory experience. Most soundproofing panels are removable, allowing the space to transform into an open, versatile area adaptable to diverse creative needs. The studio includes a main room with air conditioning for comfort, as well as a secure adjoining storage room for equipment and materials. This dedicated workspace invites artists to engage deeply with their practice, inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds it.Fees and support Residency fees at nacán start at $420 USD per week (excluding accommodation). Total costs vary depending on the duration of stay and selected accommodation, with flexible options available for one week up to three months. Extended residencies beyond three months may be considered in special cases, particularly when additional time is needed to complete a project. Expectations towards the artist At nacán, we highly encourage artists to engage with the local community by offering workshops, exhibitions, performances, or other creative activities. These contributions are entirely optional and are shaped by the artist’s interests, practice, and the context of their residency. Our goal is to foster meaningful exchanges while respecting each artist’s individual process and creative focus.
