micro-Residency 2026 | ´acePIRAR Artist-in-Residence International Program—Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA Deadline: 18 Dec 2026 Country: Argentina WE HAVE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF micro-RESIDENCIES: Production and Exploration 2-weeks micro-Residencies, both of them spanning for two weeks. Our residencies support contemporary visual art practices and trans-disciplinary projects (including performance art, sound art and curatorial proposals) promoting EXCHANGE, DEBATE, EXPERIMENTATION and COLLABORATIVE WORK. Applications for the micro-Residency program are open year-round. ´ace doesn’t charge for an application fee and all of its residencies have a reduced fee for candidates who are 30 years old and under. Duration of residency micro-Residencies span for two working weeks (Monday to Friday, from 10am to 6pm). Accommodation ´ace has two apartments — however, lodging can be arranged with us or independently, according to each resident’s needs. Buenos Aires is a city full of options ranging from inexpensive hostels to a room in a private house or high-end quality hotels. We are located in a multicultural city, one of Latin America’s cultural centers that has a wide offer of visual arts, theatre, cinema and music to experience. The ´ace team will guide you through all sorts of cultural and artistic activities happening in this pulsating Latin American city that hosts great events, such as arteBA (contemporary art fair), FIBA (theatre festival), BAFICI (independent cinema festival), Performance Biennial (performance art), FILBA (literature festival), BAPhoto (photography fair) and many other exhibitions, conferences, festivals and more. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance ´ace hosts residencies for artists, curators and researchers from a wide range of mediums and languages, such as print media, photography, video, performance art, sound art, installation, design as multiple object, digital media, artist books, painting, illustration, textiles, new media and the interweaving between them or with other contemporary art practices. We have a fully equipped workshop for non-toxic print media techniques such as photolithography, engraving, screen printing, woodcut, mokuhanga, mokulito, monotype, algraphy, bookbinding and more. Our workshop has presses, tools and an assistant (available per request) who works in direct contact with our residents to secure safe work methods, permanent feedback during the creative process and active learning through first-hand experience and experimenting. The ´ace team has deep knowledge and expertise in art critique, performance art, installations, print media, and photography, and is available at all stages of the residency period to discuss possible ideas with active residents.Studio / Workspace The Workshop is a large, quiet space with lots of natural light and equipment to facilitate a variety of traditional and new printing processes, works on papers, monotypes and artists books. In addition, the Políglota Room is a perfect space for performance art, audio-visual installations, lectures, video projections, etc. Residents can also work in The Tower: a silent and luminous studio located on the second floor with an open view, accessible by a spiral staircase. It is ideal to do research, study, write and create in an independent atmosphere. Other studios can be set up according to the project proposal and each resident’s needs. There are also many tools available and a lab for photosensitive print media techniques, as well as video and sound equipments already installed for video projections or audio-visual explorations. Residents in a micro-Residency can use The Workshop, The Tower or the Dialogue Space, where they set up and make the most out of their short but intense stay with us.Fees and support WE DON’T CHARGE ANY APPLICATION FEE. Residencies have a basic fee and residency candidates can select other options. Basic fee covers: studio space; access to equipment; workshop materials (depending on the needs of the project); reviews from a professional team permanently available; pre-production and production assistance; lunchs, refreshments, fruits, snacks and beverages at studio hours; accident insurance at the studio; guidance through the city and its cultural events; public transportation card; professional networking; a profile on ´ace’s website. We also offer residents the chance to pair residents with local artists and/or curators for a collaborative project, should it be wished for or necessary. The residency fee DOES NOT include: travel costs to and from Buenos Aires, travelers’ health insurance, costs of visas (if necessary), per diem and shipping expenses for the produced work (we suggest always to bring the work back with you and not to ship it). Expectations towards the artist Residents at ´ace are expected to work on a specific project proposed by them or to do their own research without a specific outcome in mind — in both cases, presented projects are plausible of evolving through experiences acquired within the residency period, and residents are encouraged to embrace these experiences with an open heart and mind. Residency periods can end with: - an exhibition, though it is not mandatory - artist talks, which are encouraged if residents want to give them - we can also hold open studio instances in which our residents can receive the visit of curators, artists, colleagues and the local public in order to be able to share their work and process with members of the local artistic community Application information This program has no deadline, as applications are encouraged to be submitted year-round and they will be processed as they arrive. Once they’ve received the overview documents describing our programs in detail and selected the one that best suits their needs and expectations, candidates have to start the online application process by filling out the respective online form according to the chosen type of residency. EXPANDED PHOTOGRAPHY RESEARCH RESIDENCY Japan | 2027–2028 Deadline: 30 Dec 2026 Country: Japan The Expanded Photography Research Residency is a hybrid international program organized by FotoCreativaBA in collaboration with IDEA R LAB (directed by Hiroko Ohtsuki in Kurashiki, Japan). The platform connects expanded photography, visual observation, material processes, local contexts, and global cultural exchange. The programming is structured into three distinct phases: Phase 1 (12-Month Online Laboratory): Shifting away from heavy weekly screen time, this phase prioritizes autonomous processes, deep reading, and monthly theoretical/creative triggers linking contemporary expanded photography with Japanese aesthetics (e.g., Wabi-Sabi, Kintsugi, the Ma interval, and the Provoke movement). It includes monthly 1-on-1 curatorial reviews, collective critiques, and guest lectures. Phase 2 (1-Month On-Site Residency): Fieldwork at IDEA R LAB focused on studio work, site-specific research, and material investigation using local industrial waste. Phase 3 (Closing & Public Presentation): Final project reviews, open studios, process-based exhibitions, or activations both online and at the FotoCreativaBA gallery. The program is explicitly conceived as a space for exploration, learning, and transcultural dialogue rather than a purely production-oriented residency. Duration of residency The complete hybrid program lasts 13 months in total. This includes a 12-month online laboratory (March 2027 – February 2028), followed by a 1-month on-site stay in Kurashiki, Japan. Artists can choose their preferred month for the in-person phase from three available slots in 2028: March, April, or May (with 3 artists hosted per month, totaling 9 artists). Accommodation Artists receive full accommodation during their 1-month on-site stay in Japan, to ensure a comfortable stay while interacting with the residency peers and the local community. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Eligible Disciplines: Open to visual artists, contemporary photographers, and researchers from anywhere in the world interested in expanded photography, material processes, and transcultural dialogue. The program is fully bilingual (Spanish/English friendly). Work Equipment & Resources: Artists have access to specialized workspaces and a unique framework for creative reuse. This includes access to local industrial waste materials and discarded objects to be used as creative media, alongside guidance on collecting, documenting, and conceptually reinterpreting these elements. Assistance & Mentorship: The program provides continuous curatorial training. This includes monthly 1-on-1 curatorial feedback and mentorship sessions with Program Director Natheim, as well as on-site coordination, local integration, and expert facilitation by Hiroko Ohtsuki in Japan.Studio / Workspace Artists have full access to the dedicated studio facilities and workspaces at IDEA R LAB. The workspace is shared among the 3 artists in residence each month, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Ongoing open call Deadline: 31 Dec 2026 Country: Argentina Fundación exACTa and cheLA are launching their residency program in Buenos Aires for artists, designers, researchers, and anyone interested in creative processes. Priority will be given to proposals focused on reflection, research, experimentation, and creation are valued, as are those that promote exchange among residents and connect with cheLA’s working nodes. Projects that explore movement, sound, site-specific practices, or those with a strong component of collective creativity or community participation are especially valued, though not exclusively. The program includes accommodation, workspace, activities, and support throughout the research and/or creative processes. Duration of residency The duration is flexible, but a one-month stay is recommended. Accommodation The residency offers single or double rooms in shared apartments. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Applications are open to all disciplines. We are closer to installation art, sound art, performing arts, experimental processes, and research projects that require large-scale spaces.Studio / Workspace Shared workspaces are available. Studios ranging from 300 to 500 square meters are provided, depending on the requirements of the residency.Fees and support The basic monthly fee is US$1,000 (one thousand US dollars). There in the vacuum zone naturally grows the understanding of the ultimate reality, and truth-driven actions. K&B Art Studio has created such a void, open to all artistic practices as the means to expand it, allowing the gift of presence to be seen, experienced, and appreciated. We call for artists traveling in Asia to join our inexorably explorative lifestyle at the Studio. The studio is located in a local village in Hainan, just by the wetland, and 15 mins away from the coastline by scooter. ARTEMISTA Artist-in-Residency Programme Deadline: 30 Sep 2026 Country: Italy ARTEMISTA is a non-profit cultural association working in the fields of theatre, music, social projects, and environmental awareness education. It is immersed in the rural communities of Northern Italy, in the river Po Valley and the surrounding wine-growing hills of Oltrepò. ORIGIN AND LOCATION Founded in 2004 by artists from different disciplines, including music, theatre, photography, and visual arts, ARTEMISTA is based in Spessa at “Cascina Castello,” a farmhouse with buildings dating back to the XV centur,now transformed into a Cultural Centre for artistic productions and events, while maintaining some of its original farming activities. Despite its rural setting in the Lombardy region, the site is approximately one hour from Milan, Italy’s main economic and cultural hub, with easy access to Linate and Malpensa airports, Central Railway Station, the metro system, and major motorways. The surrounding landscape offers a particular natural setting where river, hills and mountains meet: you can enjoy walks along the Po river embankment open into views of the Alps to the north and the Apennines to the south, often accompanied by the characteristic morning mist rising from the water. RESIDENCY PROGRAMME Through its residency programme, ARTEMISTA hosts individuals and groups (up to 20 participants) with creative and original proposals, offering opportunities for: – research-based residencies, – production-based residencies, – interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral residencies. Participants can live and work at Cascina Castello, developing their individual projects and immersing themselves in the region’s creative rural atmosphere. Duration of residency The residency period runs from August, 1st 2026 to March, 31st 2027. Artists may apply for residencies lasting a minimum of one week and a maximum of three weeks within this period. Accommodation Accommodation Information ARTEMISTA Hostel and Cultural Centre offers a range of accommodation options, depending on availability and participants’ needs: - Two double rooms (with private bathroom) - One room with 3 beds (with private bathroom) - Three rooms with 4–6 beds (with private bathroom) Guests have access to a shared kitchen and a communal dining/living area. This studio has maintained its original flooring in terracotta tile and ceiling with wooden beams and cross beam. The studio can host different disciplines, visual arts, music, theatre and dance. NB Studio height has to be taken into consideration for jumps/acrobatics etc. REHEARSAL STUDIO 96 sqm. This studio is suitable for THEATRE and DANCE. (8 m. x 12 m. H 5 m.). Ideal space for preparing new productions and/or organizing residential seminars. RECORDING STUDIO - suitable for all kinds of compositions. When necessary the recording studio can utilize the Granary as an extended space for live recording. The Granary has extraordinary natural acoustics and can accommodate big ensembles and groups of musicians. Technical Information - Studios come supplied with: dance carpets, theatrical lights with dimmer and control unit, sound system with speakers and mixer. On Reservation: Recording Studio, fully equipped, for additional sessions Artists-in-Residence should require. ARTEMISTA also has a workspace equipped with various craftsmen’s tools for woodwork and iron work, which can be utilized in preparation of scenery, props etc. Paid by ARTEMISTA: Internet connection Electricity Heating Water We provide basic audio and light equipment as highlighted above. For additional requests of other equipment there will be an extra cost to be agreed in advance.Fees and support Artists-in-Residence are kindly requested to pay a participation fee of €300 per week. Residencies are available for a minimum of one week and a maximum of three weeks during the residency period. To secure a place in the programme, ARTEMISTA requires a 40% deposit, which is to be paid shortly after the Artist-in-Residence receives confirmation of acceptance. The remaining balance must be paid no later than one month before the participant’s arrival. Payment must be made by bank transfer. Discounts may be applied for longer stays (from 2 weeks onwards) and for group applications. Different participation fees may be applied to long-term co-housing and co-working projects. Artists-in-Residence are responsible for their own travel expenses, meals, and personal working materials. Use of the Recording Studio is available by reservation and is subject to an additional fee. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Aviário Studio Painting Residency aims to promote the exploration and production in the Painting field. Artists are invited to focus on their work in a creative and encouraging environment. We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work. The use of solvents or other strong-smelling products isn’t allowed due to health and environmental reasons. Please always use green products (less toxic and odor-free) as a safer alternative to traditional ones, helping protect everyone who uses the studio. Accommodation You are free to decide if you want to stay at Aviário Studio’s accommodations or search for a place on your own. Aviário Studio has a guest house in the center of Ferreira do Zêzere and 2 km away from the studio (20min walk). If you decide to stay at Aviário Studio’s accommodations, you will be living in a shared house. The house is on the ground floor, and has one living room, an equipped kitchen, one bathroom, one toilet, three bedrooms, and outside space. There is free wi-fi at the house. All residents are responsible for their own bed-making, and for maintaining a clean and quiet house environment. We advise you to rent a car, especially if you want to enjoy what the region has to offer, because public transports here are limited or non-existent.
