About the LOEWE Craft Prize The LOEWE FOUNDATION established the Craft Prize in 2016 as an annual international prize dedicated to excellence in craftsmanship. The Foundation states that the prize aims to recognize outstanding works showing artistic vision and innovation while reflecting the maker’s personal language and distinct hand. The winning work should reinterpret tradition, make it relevant to the present, and demonstrate craft’s contribution to contemporary culture. The 2027 edition uses a two-stage selection structure. An Expert Panel reviews the entries and shortlists up to 30 works. Those finalists advance to the Jury for the final decision. The official program page describes the Expert Panel’s selection in terms of excellence, newness, innovation, and artistic vision in modern craft. The Jury will announce its decision in spring 2027. What Is Offered - €50,000 for the winning work. - €5,000 for each work receiving a Special Mention. - Up to 30 works shortlisted by the Expert Panel for consideration by the Jury. - Inclusion of winner and finalist works in the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2027 exhibition. - Inclusion in the accompanying exhibition catalog. - LOEWE and/or the LOEWE FOUNDATION organizes transport of finalist works to Madrid and covers transport costs, customs duties, taxes, insurance, and related costs. Finalists are responsible for suitably crating their works. - LOEWE and/or the LOEWE FOUNDATION cover return transport and insurance following the exhibition. - If finalists are required to attend the event announcing the Jury decision, the LOEWE FOUNDATION assumes travel and accommodation expenses. The €50,000 winning prize and €5,000 Special Mention prizes are subject to withholding of the corresponding Spanish personal income tax under current Spanish legislation. Who Should Apply The call is open to professional artisans age 18 or older from any nationality. The official FAQ defines a professional artisan as someone who makes craft their profession and actively participates in exhibitions, galleries, fairs, educational programs, or related professional activity. Applicants do not have to make their living from craft. Students may apply when they are over 18 and can demonstrate professional dedication to craft through their biographical background. Applicants may submit one individual work or one series understood as a single artistic creation. Individual and collective submissions are permitted. Eligible areas include: - Ceramics - Bookbinding - Enamelwork - Jewellery - Lacquer - Metal - Furniture - Leather - Textiles - Glass - Wood - Paper Materials outside these categories may be accepted by the Expert Panel when they comply with the aims and requirements of the competition. Each submitted work must be owned by the participant, original, one-of-a-kind, handmade or partly handmade by the participant, created within the last five years, previously unawarded, innovative in its updating of tradition, and demonstrate artistic intent. The work must also be capable of travel and installation by LOEWE and/or the LOEWE FOUNDATION. Timeline - Application Deadline: October 15, 2026, 23:59 CET - Finalist Works in Madrid: Before February 1, 2027 - Jury Decision: Spring 2027 - Exhibition: Spring 2027 in Europe, or another location determined by the LOEWE FOUNDATION. Why The LOEWE Craft Prize Matters The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize combines a €50,000 award with an international exhibition and catalog for the winner and finalists. The structure is particularly relevant for makers whose work moves between craft, applied arts, design, and contemporary artistic practice. The rules permit materials outside the listed craft categories when the Expert Panel determines that the work meets the aims and requirements of the competition. The call therefore offers an interdisciplinary route for makers working through objects, materials, fabrication, and craft processes, provided the submitted work meets the program’s specific conditions.
