Project 14C Fellowship Residency Deadline: 28 Sep 2026 Country: United States Project 14C is ARTS 14C’s multidisciplinary residency program and creative community, bringing together visual artists, filmmakers, writers, designers, performers, musicians, and other creative practitioners from around the world. Unlike residencies built around retreat and isolation, Project 14C is intentionally urban and community-focused. Located in the Powerhouse Arts District of Jersey City, just minutes from Manhattan, the program is designed for artists who want dedicated time and space to develop their practice while actively participating in a diverse, interdisciplinary creative community. Residents receive subsidized furnished live/work space, access to shared studios and production facilities, mentorship and professional development, and opportunities to connect with audiences and the wider arts communities of Jersey City and New York City. Facilities and programs include Gallery 14C, Recording Studio 14C, Dance Studio 14C, the 14C Textile Lab, Visual Arts Workroom, rehearsal space, public open studios, exhibitions, and other opportunities across ARTS 14C’s programs. The Artist Fellowship emphasizes both individual artistic development and community engagement. Residents are expected to engage with one another, participate in the life of Project 14C, and contribute to the community. Twelve-month fellows complete 36 hours of volunteer service during their residency. The program is open to artists across creative disciplines and is not organized around a specific artistic theme. Rather, its aim is to give artists the space, resources, professional support, and creative community they need to take risks, develop new work, build sustainable careers, and form meaningful connections across disciplines. Duration of residency 12 months (there is a 3-month option for international artists unable to get longer visas, and for artists with special circumstances) Accommodation Residents live in large furnished live/work loft studios within the Project 14C residency facility in Jersey City. Each loft includes two bathrooms, a kitchenette, dining area, and furnishings, and serves as both the artist’s accommodation and creative workspace. Artists may choose to live alone or share a loft with other artists, depending on the size of the studio. Artists wishing to share must apply with their chosen studio mates; ARTS 14C does not match residents with roommates. Shared amenities include community kitchens, laundry facilities on each floor, a gym, private resident lobby and elevators, and production/work spaces. The building is ADA compliant and pet friendly. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Project 14C welcomes artists and groups of artists across creative disciplines, including visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, music, film, fashion, architecture, design, and interdisciplinary practices. Residents have access to a range of shared creative facilities, including Recording Studio 14C, Dance Studio 14C, the 14C Textile Lab, Visual Arts Workroom, Writers Room, rehearsal space, Gallery 14C, and shared work and production studios. The residency also offers public open studio events, exhibition opportunities, mentorship, and professional development. Recording Studio 14C includes professional equipment and is overseen by producer Chris Sieg; residents receive extensive free studio time, with equipment access available to those trained in its use. The 14C Textile Lab supports textile, fashion, and fiber practices and is overseen by designer Tyler Neasloney. Each resident’s furnished live/work loft provides substantial space for both living and creative practice, and residents may also make use of shared production facilities. Because Project 14C is housed in a historic building, practices requiring open flame or toxic materials that produce fumes or dust cannot be accommodated.Studio / Workspace Each resident has a large live/work loft studio, ranging from approximately 840 to 1,504 sq ft (78–140 sq m) with 10–12 ft ceilings. The loft serves as both the artist’s living accommodation and primary workspace. Studios may be private or shared, depending on the artist’s preference and the size of the space. Most accommodate one or two artists, with some suitable for up to four. Artists who wish to share must apply with their chosen studio mates; ARTS 14C does not match residents. Residents also have access to shared work and production spaces and specialized facilities, including the Visual Arts Workroom, Recording Studio 14C, Dance Studio 14C, Writers Room, rehearsal space, and 14C Textile Lab.Fees and support Residency fees are subsidized and vary according to the size of the live/work studio and the number of artists sharing the space. For the December 2026-November 2027 cohort, fees range from approximately $2,030 to $3,190 USD per artist per month for solo living space, with shared residency fees averaging approximately $1,200 USD per person per month. Fees are all-inclusive, covering furnished live/work accommodation, Wi-Fi, utilities, and participation in residency programs. Residents also receive access to shared studios and production facilities, mentorship and professional development, and opportunities to participate in exhibitions, open studios, and other ARTS 14C programs. Artists choosing to share a studio must apply with their own studio mates; ARTS 14C does not match residents for shared accommodation. Expectations towards the artist Project 14C is a community-focused residency, and residents are expected to actively engage with one another, participate in the life of the residency, and take advantage of the creative communities of Jersey City and New York City. Twelve-month Artist Fellowship residents are required to contribute 36 hours of volunteer service to the ARTS 14C community over the course of their residency. There is no obligatory final exhibition, artist talk, or workshop specified as part of the Artist Fellowship. Residents do, however, have opportunities to share their work and engage with audiences through public open studios, exhibitions, and other ARTS 14C programs and events. Application information Artists apply online through the ARTS 14C application portal – link to the portal, as well as more information on the program and specific floor plans, available at arts14c.org. Applicants should submit: Documentation of their artistic practice, including clear images, video, PDFs, or other materials appropriate to their discipline. A minimum of two references: one from someone who knows the applicant personally and one from someone who knows them professionally. A statement explaining why they are suited to the residency, what they hope to gain from it, and how they will contribute to the Project 14C community. Artists planning to share a live/work studio should provide the names of their studio mates. Each artist sharing the space must submit a separate application. Applications may be edited or amended after submission up until the deadline. The application deadline for both the 12-month Artist Fellowship and 3-month International Artist Fellowship is September 28, 2026 at 11:59pm EDT.
