Short presentation of artistic practice expected; craftspeople and designers especially encouraged.
Weaving, ceramics and woodwork May 2027 Deadline: 29 Nov 2026 Country: Finland Kristinestad Artists’ Residency is a non-profit, artist/volunteer run programme in the picturesque town of Kristinestad on the Finnish West coast, offered in cooperation with the Hemslöjdsgården craft association as well as the municipality. We are now inviting artists for our Spring session, 3–31 May 2027. For this period, there will be 4–5 international artists in residence altogether. If you are into nature, slow living and lingering twilight, this setting and season is for you. You will have peace to concentrate on a personal project with few things to distract you. In this well-preserved wooden town, traditional architecture and crafts provide a natural focus of attention and can serve as a source of inspiration. We encourage reflection on issues and practices that are central to the local and Finnish context. We welcome collaborations with the local community, but this is by no means obligatory. Duration of residency 4 weeks Accommodation There is a variety of accommodation options at walking distance from the studios, most of which in beautiful traditional buildings. A full list will be available to those accepted onto the programme. Kitchens and bathrooms are sometimes shared. You will have a bicycle at your disposal. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Programme open to all creative professionals. Craftspeople, designers and visual artists are especially encouraged to apply. There are weaving looms and equipment for textile dyeing, pottery and woodwork. Weaving tuition is available.Studio / Workspace At the craft association: shared ceramics studio (16 m²) with a kiln; looms in a larger space shared with association members; woodworking studio (25 m²). At Studio Fremdeling: an open space of 100 m² with desks - shared with hosts or another artist.Fees and support The residency fee is €600–750, depending on the accommodation option. Please take into account costs for materials and work-related costs e.g. for kiln firing (first firing free, further firings €20) or weaving tuition (4 sessions for €100). We offer no grants, but selected candidates will be issued a letter of support for seeking grants elsewhere. Expectations towards the artist A short presentation of the artists’ art practice is expected. Exhibitions, shows, workshops etc. are most welcome but not an obligation. Application information Send us an informal application letter by email by 29 November. NB! We are more interested in what you would like to do than in full CVs or artists’ statements. On our website, we suggest a number of questions to be answered. If possible, link to documentation of your work online; if you must send an attachment, please limit yourself to two recent and relevant works. If applicable, attach a very short and realistic project plan, including any wishes as to space, equipment and assistance. Heavy (10 MB+) messages will not be taken into account for technical reasons. The selection is made by a committee with representatives from several arts and craft fields. The result of the selection will be announced in early December.
