Applicants need to connect the proposed work to a viable production process, a specific collaboration, and the resources available across the host network. Host selection also requires research. Applicants rank the 15 organizations, and EMAP advises artists to study each organization’s facilities and contact potential hosts when technical information is unclear. The application requires a CV, audiovisual documentation of previous work, and a preliminary project outline. Collaborating artists can be confirmed later, which allows applicants to propose working with a partner identified through the host. Join the network to access the Strategy Coach Notes for a detailed application plan, host-selection method, work-sample alignment, and proposal checklist. About the EMAP Media Art Residency The European Media Art Platform is a network of European organizations working across digital and media art, bio art, and robotic art. Werkleitz initiated it, and it has received Creative Europe co-funding since 2018. The 2027 call covers digital, media, robotic, and bio art broadly. Eligible practices can include immersive installation and biotechnological research. Selected artists develop a new project within an international production network that connects residency hosts, festivals, exhibitions, conferences, technical facilities, and more than 150 partner organizations. EMAP also supports the documentation, publication, visibility, and international circulation of work produced through the residencies. Collaboration is required. Applicants may apply as a duo or collective, or propose a project with an existing partner. A single artist can apply by planning to collaborate with a local artist or group found with assistance from the eventual host. The collaborator does not need to be confirmed when you submit the application. Applicants may submit more than one project as separate entries and can edit each submission until the deadline. Each host has one residency place per year. The consortium evaluates artistic quality, relevance, feasibility, and collaborative potential. The jury will communicate decisions by email by the end of January. EMAP does not provide comments on jury decisions. What Is Offered - Two-month production residency at one EMAP host organization - €4,000 grant for the applying artist or collective, including subsistence costs - €2,000 grant for collaborating artist(s) or scientist(s) - €6,000 total grant for an artist duo - Project budget of at least €4,000 - Accommodation provided by the host for up to two months - Travel expenses covered by the host according to EU ceilings - Access to technical facilities and/or media labs - Invitation to the kickoff conference in Gijón, Spain, March 11–12, 2027 - Professional presentation at the host with no additional fee - Opportunities for exhibition tours and potential exhibitions with EMAP partners Artist groups share the available grant, collaborator grant, travel expenses, project budget, and possibly accommodation. EMAP Media Art Residency Timeline - Applications Open: September 3, 2026 - Application Deadline: November 6, 2026, 14:00 CET - Results: By the end of January 2027 - Kickoff Conference: March 11–12, 2027, in Gijón, Spain - Residency: Two months during 2027, scheduled with the selected host Why The EMAP Media Art Residency Matters EMAP combines direct grants, a production budget, accommodation, travel, facilities, and institutional access within one residency structure. The required collaboration creates an additional resource for projects that depend on technical, scientific, or artistic expertise. Applicants also gain access to a consortium that presents work through festivals, exhibitions, conferences, and partner organizations. The strongest practical advantage is being able to rank hosts by project needs. Artists can assess equipment, lab access, curatorial context, accessibility, and location before setting priorities. That makes host research central to preparing a feasible proposal. Apply Deadline: November 6, 2026, 14:00 CET.
