Studio and independent research artists with conceptual, critical, theory-based practices.

ãIR artists in residence – 2027 Open Call Deadline: 30 Jul 2027 Country: Portugal A 5-week residency program for practices operating as thinking systems — conceptual, critical, and politically situated. We are calling for artists who refuse the safety of formalism, who engage the eye not only as a sensor of beauty, but as an interface of intelligence, disruption and inquiry. We are especially interested in practices that emerge from theoretical depth, historical awareness, and radical positioning — where form follows thought, and where aesthetics are tools, not goals. We are seeking artists who operate as mediators between systems, histories, and publics. The residency takes place at Irmã Feia, an independent art space in Almada, inaugurated in 2022 just across the river from Lisbon, Portugal. Run by a small team, Irmã Feia aims to create a space for artistic experimentation, presentation and debate.
