About the Djerassi Artist Residency The Djerassi Resident Artists Program has supported artists for more than four decades and reports that more than 2,700 writers, visual and media artists, composers, choreographers, filmmakers, and scientists have participated. Its 583-acre property provides a retreat environment centered on uninterrupted working time. For 2027, Djerassi anticipates accommodating approximately 40 to 45 new artists across five residency sessions. The standard Artist Cohorts include writers, visual artists, composers, choreographers, and media artists. Applicants choose the category that best represents their primary practice and may apply in only one category during the application cycle. Artists whose practices span several fields can identify that within their materials. Media Arts / New Genres specifically includes film, video, sound, performance, experimental theater, and interdisciplinary or technology-driven work. The residency does not require applicants to propose a completed production. The application instead asks artists to establish the strength of their existing practice, their readiness to use the residency period, and the potential impact of that time on their work.
