DE PROEF. residency Deadline: 01 Mar 2027 Country: Netherlands DE PROEF. invites artists, designers, writers, researchers and other creative practitioners to apply for a short-term residency in rural Netherlands. We offer time and space to step away from your usual environment, develop an existing project, begin new research, or simply create in close connection with nature. The end of 2026, and start of 2027, two residency rooms are available. The proposed project should have a meaningful connection to at least one of the following: -gardens and plants -ecology and sustainability -food and agriculture -(rural) landscapes -Community / human relation to nature For example; Investigating the interdependence of biodiversity and cultural tradition, Creating sustainable practices that respond to present-day ecological and social challenges, Using the garden as a living archive and site for sensory exploration, cultivation, and regeneration, Connecting rural heritage with contemporary urban questions or (Re)making Food Systems We are interested in thoughtful, experimental and personal approaches to these subjects. Residents have substantial creative freedom in how they develop their work. Duration of residency The duration of the artist residency is dependent on your project. We recommend a minimum stay of two weeks. Accommodation The residency is based at Frederiksoord, surrounded by an eight-hectare garden and working landscape. Each resident has access to: -A private bedroom -Shared kitchen, living room and atelier/workspace -Full access to the eight-hectare garden -Wi-Fi and basic household facilities We also host shared residency dinners twice a month, prepared with vegetables grown on site Disciplines, work equipment and assistance We welcome projects from different disciplines and approaches. We have basic materials available (wood/paper). Where we can we like to aid you with gathering the tools and materials you need, but this responsibility is with the artist. Our team has a lot of knowledge to share. For this, we like to host one advisory session for each resident to connect you to the right experts. - expertise in horticultural / botanical / landscaping -Aid with Visual design -Help with organizing workshops, talks, expositions -Several other knowledgeable people in baking, fermentation, chocolaterie and fashion desingStudio / Workspace Currently our shared workspace is under construction. (For the end of 2026) The workspace has some nice long tablespace that you can use. This is a place we allow to get messy sometimes. It has natural light. In consultation, we also allow other spaces to be used as workspace.Fees and support What to bring with you: – We ask for a fee of 100 euros a week to help sustain our residency programme. – Food for yourself (there’s a kitchen available at the residency and a supermarket nearby) – The materials you need (we only have basic supplies here) Use of the professional wood workshop is available for an additional fee, subject to availability and prior agreement. Collectives/duo’s are welcome for an additional 50,- a week per extra person. Expectations towards the artist On our website, we like to feature the residents we’ve been working with. Subject to discussion in advance, selected works or documentation may be featured in our garden magazine, workshops/events or the yearly residents’ exhibition.
