Jul 23, 2026 Cypher & Utopia – Tanz als gelebte Utopie with Raphael Moussa Hillebrand – 5 days workshop in the frame of Summer/ing 2026 Where: Tanzfabrik Berlin, Möckernstr. 68, 10965 Berlin, Germany When: 24.-28.08.26 // 12:00-15:00 Deadline for applications: until fully booked This workshop combines two artistic explorations: hip-hop cypher as the original form of collective movement practice, and dance as a lived utopia in the here and now. Cypher is a form of collective dancing in a circle. Based on improvisation, and independent of dance styles, the focus is on the creation of community. Ubuntu (I am through you) illustrates that community forms the basis of individual development, and that exchange is more important than virtuosity. What happens in the circle? What emerges when bodies start moving, encounter one another, listen and respond? Starting with somatic exercises, we explore body awareness and presence, with a focus on the spine as the engine of our movements. From there, we develop a groove and work out specific dance steps from urban and contemporary movement languages, for example Kick Ball Change and Fresno. Together we ask: What does it mean not just to perform dance, but to understand it as an act of resistance and of shaping the future? We will translate these questions into group improvisations – through which dance becomes a lived utopia for self-empowerment in the here and now. THE NIGHT THAT DREAMS — COSMOLOGIES OF SCALE untersucht sahelische Kosmologien als lebendige Wissenssysteme, die sich von Mauretanien und Senegal über Sudan, Eritrea und Äthiopien bis nach Dschibuti erstrecken. Ausgehend von Recherchen zu Traditionen wie den Sereer, Dogon, Kel Ferwan, Zār und Abyssinien zeichnet Miriam Hillawi Abraham nach, wie afrikanische Weltbilder Beziehungen zwischen Land, Himmel, Erinnerung und Technologie vermitteln. Dabei hinterfragt die Künstlerin koloniale Grenzziehungen und westliche Ordnungssysteme. Die Ausstellung arbeitet mit den Konzepten der Skalarität und Interskalarität. Durch Verzerrung, Überlagerung und Maßstabsverschiebungen werden Zusammenhänge zwischen den kleinsten und den größten Formen der Existenz sichtbar gemacht – inspiriert von der Kosmologie der Dogon. Linsen, Karten und Kosmogramme dienen dabei als Werkzeuge für alternative Formen des Sehens und Wissens, die in situiertem und verkörpertem Wissen verankert sind. Dan Farrimond March 4, 2026 Yle Text are presently screening a selection of artworks from the innovative First Excursions in Teletext, Norway’s pioneering academic research into the medium as an artform. Led by Arild Boman in 1979, it is thought to be the first study of its kind, exploring different aspects of teletext as a visual medium. Norwegian artists Peter Broenn and Morten Juvet joined Boman to play with geometrical figures, letter forms and literary essays, facilitated by NRK. The experiments have been converted by the Museum of Teletext Art, whose page on Yle Text is hosting this insightful look into the history of teletext art. In August 2025, to mourn the loss of NRK Teletext, Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen ran a story reflecting on the experiments, which also included quotes from the participating artists and MUTA. The article is sadly behind a paywall right now, but highlights the challenges facing teletext art as more and more services are gradually shut down. After the initial NRK test period in 1979, Excursions in Teletext continued to circulate through MediaCulture and Knowledge Channel – Media Art Gallery, transmitted via satellite in Norway from 1987, and later across Europe through Eurostep in the early 1990s. Some resist the conditions that surround them, while others seek refuge in a virtual realm. Set against the backdrop of a peripheral summer, where protests against police violence intersect with the consolations of videogames, Death in August develops an ambivalent coming-of-age narrative. Bruno Abib’s work complicates familiar genre expectations, tracing how physical and virtual spaces become connected through fear, withdrawal, solidarity, and escape. Bruno Abib is a Lisbon-based film editor and director. He studied at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School (ESTC) and, since 2017, has edited films shown at La Semaine de la Critique in Cannes, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and CPH:DOX. His films examine violence, alienation, and memory in suburban everyday life, often moving between realism and abstraction through personal archives, internet footage, and videogame imagery. His debut short, The Girl from Berlin (2015), won the Restart Award for Best Film in the Novíssimos section at IndieLisboa. Death in August (2023), which combines live action with videogame sequences to address youth, police violence, grief, and virtual retreat, received a Special Mention from the Schools Jury at IndieLisboa. He is currently completing Live Love Laugh, his third short film, now in post-production.

The 2026 edition focuses on tangible practices for being together: actions, devices, performances, installations and participatory processes that work with bodies, materials, shared space and relationships between people who live in – or pass through – the city. In a time when social life is often mediated by screens, public spaces are organised around consumption and loneliness is recognised as a public health concern, the residency invites artists and collectives to experiment with new ways of being together and making community. The residency will take place in Terni, Umbria (Italy), from 16 to 30 November 2026, and up to three artists or collectives will be selected. The call is open to artists and collectives of any age and geographical background, experienced and interested in performative, installation-based, participatory projects and hybrid formats in urban space. For those selected, the programme includes shared accommodation, a coworking area, a gross fee of 1,000 EUR per artist/collective, a food allowance of 350 EUR, travel reimbursement, and logistical and organisational support.

Juli 24, 2026 Internationales Stipendium »Zwangsarbeit/en – Work Force/d« erstmals vergeben Ziel des Stipendiums ist es, die Geschichte der NS-Zwangsarbeit in Stuttgart aus zeitgenössischen künstlerischen Perspektiven zu erforschen und sichtbar zu machen. Ausgangspunkt sind konkrete Orte ehemaliger NS-Zwangsarbeit im heutigen Stadtgebiet, die durch künstlerische Interventionen neu lesbar gemacht werden sollen. Zwischen 1939 und 1945 waren diese Orte Schauplätze von Gewalt, Entrechtung und Ausbeutung. An den meisten Orten erinnert heute nichts an diesen Teil ihrer Geschichte. Das Stipendienvorhaben setzt genau hier an: Die künstlerischen Arbeiten sollen nach den Spuren fragen, die die Zwangsarbeit bis heute im Stadtraum, in Biografien, Familiengeschichten und gesellschaftlichen Strukturen hinterlassen hat. Zugleich eröffnen sie einen Dialog über gegenwärtige Formen von Ausbeutung, Abhängigkeit und prekären Arbeitsverhältnissen, indem Kontinuitäten, Brüche und Veränderungen kritisch reflektiert werden. Auf die internationale Ausschreibung gingen mehr als 160 Bewerbungen aus zahlreichen Ländern ein. Eine fünfköpfige Fachjury – bestehend aus Mirjam Zadoff (Leiterin des NS-Dokumentationszentrums München), Ülkü Süngün (Künstlerin), Andreas Langen (Fotograf und Mitglied des Arbeitskreises Zwangsarbeit in Stuttgart) sowie Vertreterinnen der beiden Kooperationspartner – wählte zwei internationale künstlerische Positionen aus. Die Künstlerin Nadya Sayapina hat ihre erste mehrmonatige Residenz in Stuttgart kürzlich begonnen. Im weiteren Verlauf des Stipendiums wird auch Jean-François Daisy Krebs für zwei Arbeitsphasen nach Stuttgart kommen. Während ihrer Aufenthalte recherchieren die Künstler*innen in Archiven, führen Gespräche mit Expert*innen und lokalen Initiativen und entwickeln ortsspezifische künstlerische Projekte, die gemeinsam mit der Stadtgesellschaft realisiert werden. Begleitet werden die künstlerischen Arbeiten von einem öffentlichen Vermittlungsprogramm. Zu den zentralen Kooperationspartnern gehören neben der Koordinierungsstelle Erinnerungskultur des Kulturamts und der Akademie Schloss Solitude der Arbeitskreis Zwangsarbeit in Stuttgart, die Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Baden-Württemberg sowie das Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg. Historischer Kontext Zwischen 1939 und 1945 war Zwangsarbeit ein zentraler Bestandteil der nationalsozialistischen Kriegswirtschaft. Millionen Menschen aus den von Deutschland besetzten Ländern Europas wurden zur Arbeit im Deutschen Reich gezwungen. Allein in Stuttgart mussten mehr als 40.000 Männer, Frauen und Jugendliche unter Zwang arbeiten. Obwohl Zwangsarbeit eine tragende Säule der NS-Kriegswirtschaft war, blieb ihre Geschichte nach 1945 lange ein verdrängtes Kapitel der europäischen Erinnerung. Erst seit den späten 1980er-Jahren und verstärkt im Zuge der Entschädigungsdebatten der 1990er-Jahre rückten die Schicksale der Zwangsarbeiterinnen und Zwangsarbeiter zunehmend in das öffentliche Bewusstsein. Seit 2022 dokumentiert der Arbeitskreis »Zwangsarbeit in Stuttgart« die ehemaligen Lager- und Arbeitsorte im Stadtgebiet. Einen wichtigen aktuellen Forschungsbeitrag stellt die vom Stadtarchiv herausgegebene Dissertation des Historikers Kevin Schmidt Kriegswirtschaft und Zwangsarbeit in Stuttgart 1939–1945 dar. Sie liefert neue Erkenntnisse über Umfang, Organisation und Bedeutung der Zwangsarbeit in der Landeshauptstadt und bildet eine wichtige Grundlage für die weitere erinnerungskulturelle Arbeit. Noch bis Ende September sind im Schaufenster der ehemaligen Galeria Kaufhof in der Eberhardstraße Fotos von Orten zu sehen, die im Zweiten Weltkrieg mit Zwangsarbeit in Verbindung standen. Die Fotografien stammen von Andreas Langen und Kai Loges (arge lola). Die Ausstellung ist eine Kooperation der Koordinierungsstelle Erinnerungskultur mit dem Arbeitskreis »Zwangsarbeit in Stuttgart«.

Steps to an Ecology of Networked Knowledge and Innovation: Enabling New Forms of Collaboration among Sciences, Engineering, Arts, and Design In 2012, The Network for Sciences, Engineering, Arts, and Design (SEAD) launched a White Papers initiative to build community awareness of perceived challenges and opportunities for transdisciplinary collaboration across the breadth of science, engineering, art, design and the humanities. The SEAD White Papers initiative was chaired by Roger Malina and co-chaired by Carol Strohecker, with the assistance of an international Steering Group and coordination by Carol LaFayette and Amy Ione, Managing Editor. Leonardo Electronic Almanac (LEA), is Leonardo's peer-reviewed digital journal dedicated to providing a forum for those who are interested in the realm where art, science and technology converge. LEA publishes recent work and critical discussion on topics of current relevance and encourages contributions from scholars, artists, scientists, educators and developers of new technological resources in the fine arts and media arts. The Leonardo Graduate Abstracts is an evolving, comprehensive database of thesis abstracts (PhD, Masters and MFA) on topics at the intersections between art, science and technology. This English-language database is hosted by Pomona College (Claremont, CA). Each year a selection of abstracts chosen by a peer review panel for their special relevance is published in Leonardo and on this website. The Leonardo Gallery highlights a variety of artists' works selected by an invited curator. The gallery generally consists of a curator's statement plus 6–8 pages of artists' images and their very brief statements about the work shown. Galleries are published simultaneously online and in Leonardo. The 30th edition of the FAKI Festival is celebrating more than a festival anniversary. Thirty years of FAKI also marks three decades of the organisation behind it: thirty years of self-organisation, collective work, artistic experimentation, friendships, disagreements, persistence and survival. This milestone invites us to pause, not out of nostalgia, but to ask what it means to celebrate today. Artists from Eight Countries are Illuminating the Southern Black Sea Coast with Light Art during the Second LUNAR: Sea of Lights label News today June 26, 2026 Read more Between August 7 and 10, artists from eight countries will create original works for five resorts along the southern Black Sea coast: Tsarevo, Lozenets, Varvara, Ahtopol, and Sinemorets. The impressive light installations will be presented as part of the second summer edition of the LUNAR digital art festival. This year, the cultural event will illuminate not only the urban environment, but also some of the most captivating natural landmarks along the Black Sea coast with stunning light installations. LUNAR: Sea of Lights is organized by MP-STUDIO and the Municipality of Tsarevo and will be with free admission on each of the four evenings, from Friday through Monday (inclusive), between 9:00 p.m. and midnight. Seventeen light artworks – projection mapping shows, immersive experiences, light installations, and interactive digital works – will impress visitors on each of the festival evenings. They will be created by artists from Bulgaria, Brazil, France, Hungary, Germany, Latvia, Poland and Slovakia. The unique seaside light route will begin at one of the Black Sea’s most beloved resorts – Lozenets. There, the Northern Cliff will become a canvas for a projection mapping show inspired by the rhythmic connection between the phases of the moon and the tides. Just meters away from the show, at the Lozenets port, an enchanting water ballet performed by shimmering swans will captivate the audience. The CYGNUS installation, created by the German art collective Loomaland, will demonstrate that machines can exist not merely for their function, but can also create beauty. One of the highlights of this year’s LUNAR program will be the collaborative projection mapping show The Gifts of the Sea. It will transform the facade of the “Georgi Kondolov” Community Center in Tsarevo. The audiovisual spectacle will invite three internationally recognized studios and artists – Clockwork (Poland), Maxin10sity (Hungary), and Patrick Grandi (France/Brazil) – to present their “gift from the sea” on the shore. This August, the audience will have the opportunity to actively participate in a variety of light-based artworks. The creators of LUNAR – MP-STUDIO – will give visitors to Tsarevo the perfect reason to take out their cell phones – to become creators of the interactive audiovisual installation Symbiosis. By transforming a beautiful sgraffito (monumental mural) into an unique musical instrument, the audience will generate an individual audiovisual response to each element of the artwork, while at the same time, each participant will influence the overall environment and the experience of everyone else. Heading south, the public will be able to stop at the newest location – part of the art event – Varvara. The resort’s first participation in the program will be an unforgettable experience for all visitors. They will be able to enjoy five artworks set up on the meadow above the beach, including the light installations Divine Geometry and Fragments, the projection mapping show Harvest of Time, created for the round shapes of straw bales, the interactive installation Phlix Meadow, activated via cell phones, as well as a music and light stage featuring Drum and Bass Lavina. One of last year’s favorite seaside locations – Ahtopol – will once again offer an exciting experience for everyone who wants to slow down and blend in with the rhythm of nature. The final stop of the journey-under-the-stars will once again be Sinemorets. This year, in the heart of the resort, a space will open up where laser beams, voices, and live performances will intertwine in an endlessly unfolding fairy tale. After sunset, visitors will become part of the creation of a surreal world where the story does not follow a predetermined script but is born from the encounter between imagination and the nighttime environment. One of Slovak artist sedemminut’s most famous works, For Peace!, will await viewers who make their way to the meadow above Veleka Beach. The light installation poses the question, “Is peace sustainable, or must we ‘run’ for it?”, reminding us that peace and freedom are not a given and must be pursued every day. The organizer and main creative team behind the project is the Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO. LUNAR: Sea of Lights is organised in partnership with the Municipality of Tsarevo. The event will take place with the support of the Ministry of Tourism of Republic of Bulgaria, A1, Galaxy Investment Group and Smart Property Fund.
