Greek Island Village Escape Deadline: 08 Aug 2026 Country: Greece The Ano Asites Artit Residency is located in a quiet village, on the Greek island of Crete, half an hour from Heraklion City. It is run by the more establish Lakkos Artist Residency in Heraklion City. The village residency is perfect for creative people, who are looking for some isolation to work on their projects. It runs for twelve months of the year. This residency is most likely for somebody who has been to Greece before and does not need to run around doing touristy things. If you would like to do touristy things it would be better to stay in the city residency or hire a car as well. It offers a more authentic experience. You must have an independent spirit and like solitude. It is run by an Australian who lives between the village and the city. Please see the website for more information. Duration of residency Two weeks minimum stay. Accommodation There are two accommodation options. One newly renovated village apartment with two bedrooms. It’s location is close to a small sheep bell-making workshop so is sometimes not quiet during working days. This location is good to get to know some of the locals. Also, we have an amazing mountain hut for people with no mobility issues. This has total isolation. and an amazing mountain hut. The residency doesn’t have any program or expectations and is artist run. Its a space to create, research and explore. Mathew Halpin who runs the residency is a practicing visual artist who lives in a village close bye. The residency house hosts three artists at a time. Mathew pops in often to welcome new artists. There are a couple of city beaches within walking distance. The island is well connected with a good bus service to explore the archeological sites. We offer a space to think and time to develop a new idea – or to continue on a work in progress. Our special area is the unique archipelago, with the National Parks and biosphere area; frozen seas, light summer nights, rich bird life as well as amazing star nights – this place has something to offer around the year: Outer archipelago or the nearby wild forest lake, seaside is straight outside AARK, passing ships. AARK can offer a quiet retreat as well a more social setting – depending on the artist’s needs and other art professionals visiting. We can organize a weekly informal meeting in the residency. Travel and working plans, questions, dinners and Sauna … or just having some coffee together. Our location is by the ferry shore and a small boats dock so there is always some traffic and people around. But still, house and the archipelago can be very silent during winter months. We encourage a dialog inside AARK, between both national and international quests and a dialog with local people and the environment. If your proposal is accepted, the editor sets up a manuscript submission schedule with you. If your manuscript is accepted without revisions, it moves to the editing stage. If you are asked to resolicit a new version that addresses the points raised by the reviewers, you choose whether to revise and resubmit. Note that most manuscripts require revision by the author before final acceptance. Step 6 Address Feedback Requests for revisions may include suggestions by reviewers to consider other current work or research for incorporation into the text or references. How you address the feedback is your decision. The editor may also request revisions to bring your manuscript in line with the requirements explained in the manuscript guidelines. These are not negotiable and must be addressed in your revised submission. Your resubmitted manuscript may undergo a further round of review either by an external peer reviewer or the editor. You are told whether your article is accepted or rejected after the review. Step 7 Achieve Acceptance and Initial Publication Your manuscript is accepted! If you submitted an article for Leonardo or LMJ, it will be posted on the Leonardo Just Accepted (JA) page of The MIT Press website within 4–6 months after acceptance and receipt of all required permissions. JA is the first form of publication in which a watermark indicating the journal title, the copyright holder and the article's digital object identifier (DOI) is added. Your manuscript will now enter the queue for publication in an archival printed journal. Due to the continued dynamism of the art-science-technology field, the current turnaround for submissions of over two pages to print is over three years. Step 8 Review Edited Material Once your manuscript is scheduled for publication, it moves into the next stage—editing. The editor sends the edited manuscript for you to review. This is your last opportunity to review your manuscript before it moves into production and its final published form. NOTE: An article's final, archival publication in print may be three years from its acceptance date, depending on the publication and article type. For Leonardo papers in our Statement format of two pages or less, print publication can currently be expected in under 18 months from receipt of a submission. Step 9 Celebrate and Promote Your Work Congratulations, you're published! Your article or book is now a Leonardo publication and may appear in print and/or online, depending on the publication you chose. Work with us to share your published work so that it reaches as wide and diverse an audience as possible.

KIAC aims to be like a door to an unknown world or a window to observe the familiar everyday for those who engage with its activities. Unlike a theater where completed works are programmed, KIAC is an art center for the creation and community exchange. It is a place for experimentation where resident artists and local residents may be able to interact with each other to create values or works that no one has yet seen. Intended program period: 1st April 2027 - 31st March 2028 (excluding one month of September 2027) Eligible projects: Any of the following activities for which feasibility is ensured: (1) Performing arts (theater, dance, music, performance, etc.) (2) Research-based art projects (3) Study groups, symposiums, lectures, etc. by art professionals Support: Kinosaki International Arts Center will support the artists with providing space for creation and accommodation and staff as follows: 1.) Free use of Kinosaki International Arts Center hall and studios. 2.) Free use of the residence of up to 7 rooms. 3.) Technical staff and coordinators will support the creation and research. *As a general rule, personnel expenses for all the staff involved in the production, transportation to Kinosaki, etc. must be covered by the applicant. *Artists must pay 350 yen per person per day to Toyooka City for utilities. Application Requirements 1.) Individual artists or groups of artists can stay at Kinosaki International Arts Center for their artistic activities for a minimum of 7 days to a maximum of three months. 2.) Artists are required to be able to speak and understand basic Japanese or English. If they don’t, artists should hire an interpreter at their own expense. 3.) Artists are required to be independent and capable of working and living on their own doing their laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. 4.) Artists are expected to be willing to communicate with the locals and tourists through the Community Exchange Program. (See details below) 5.) Artists must follow the rules and regulations of Kinosaki International Arts Center. In case of any violation, artists will have to pay a penalty. 6.) Artists must cover all travel and living expenses and all production costs. Expectations upon acceptance 1.) Artists must pay 350 yen per person per day to Toyooka City for utilities. (ex: A group of 5 components staying for 9 nights = 350 JPY x 5 people x 10 days = total : 17,500 JPY) 2.) During their stay, artists must be involved in the Community Exchange Program(*) by organizing activities that will encourage creative exchange with the locals and tourists. 3.) When presenting a piece of work that has been created at KIAC, artists must credit Kinosaki International Arts Center (Toyooka City) by printing the facility name and its logo on all promotional material. 4.) Artists must agree to help promote Kinosaki International Arts Center by sharing photos, videos and information. (However, all rights related to the work created during their stay belong to the artists involved). About the Community Exchange Program: Artists are asked to introduce their work and its creative process to the locals and tourists through events such as presentations of the finished work, rehearsal performances, open studios, workshops, talk shows, etc. in order to create opportunities to exchange together.
