Greek Island Residency with a City Experience. The residency doesn’t have any program or expectations and is artist run. Its a space to create, research and explore. Mathew Halpin who runs the residency is a practicing visual artist who lives in a village close bye. The residency house hosts three artists at a time. Mathew pops in often to welcome new artists. There are a couple of city beaches within walking distance. The island is well connected with a good bus service to explore the archeological sites. Call for Autumn Retreat 2026 – ARiR Guiniguada, Gran Canaria Deadline: 10 Aug 2026 Country: Spain Artist and Researcher in Residence programme, runs since 2019 in the Guiniguada valley of Gran Canaria, in the northern foothills, a long inhabited fertile area, not the touristic south. Separate studios, several terraces, shared kitchen and bathrooms. The house is our home, where we welcome you, we are present during the programme and support your projects. We are on an experimental life project trying to be less a consumer and work together with nature to a desired extent. Natural setting of the warm-loving forest zone, also ongoing agricultural activity. Rural as being part of a village, but very close to the capital city of Las Palmas or the town of Santa Brígida, thus well connected also via roads and public transport. Duration of residency Preferably 4 weeks (whole period). Minimum stay 2 weeks. Accommodation The house is an ‘organic’ type – this means by local standards it had been used first as a series of caves, since unkown times, and the previous owners enlarged it step by step in the directions where the rocky hillside has permitted. The residency area starts above our apartment; consisting of five rooms. Each room is separate, they do not open from each other. A shared kitchen and various terraces are at your disposal, and there are two shared bathrooms. Residency at Casa Figueira 2026 Deadline: 10 Aug 2026 Country: Brazil São João Farm is located near the mountains of Teresópolis and Petrópolis in Rio de Janeiro state. We produce agroecological coffee and foment creative immersions, residencies, retreats and rituals for over a decade. Applications are open to all those who have an interest in developing their works and research in a rural context. Under the shade of an old Fig tree, a house with four bedrooms, large communal spaces, a studio, kitchen, bathroom, terrace, a vegetable garden and an open air shower. Artistic and Zoological Practices for Other Versions of the World Deadline: 10 Aug 2026 Country: Argentina Coordinator: Celeste Medrano Bipedal locomotion, a presumably biological arrangement, brought with it a series of political consequences that, among certain human collectives, meant an overt opening toward all kinds of binary thinking. Thus, far from the ground, we found ourselves in the midst of a taxonomic whim. However, playing the exceptionalism card did not make us “win the game,” as we had imagined. Today we must think of ourselves amid all kinds of catastrophes: anthropocenic, denialist, libertarian, etc. But: how can we engage in an exercise that moves away from the simplifications proposed by Modernity? What paths can we take toward more-than-human futures? Perhaps here we can conjure a promise: that of the critters. In this re(in)sidency, the second version of an essay we began in 2025, we slip into the world of birds as a multispecies pretext. We imagine the gathering as an act of resistance to the progress of a technocratic and libertarian linear time; we imagine it chiefly inhabited by legs and beaks, by the feathers of male birds, female birds, and aviaries. We imagine it relapsing into critterhood, insisting. Flying over the coastal grasslands of Buenos Aires Province, dragging ourselves through the forest that surrounds them. For all this, it is necessary to learn certain techniques—perhaps the biological ones, those of naturalists and ornithologists—in pursuit of other possible stories. We will then meet on October 10, in the territory of the Zone (El Marquesado) at 9:00 a.m., and the residency will conclude on October 13 at 10:00 a.m. In total, there will be 3 nights and 3 days in person. If anyone needs to finish late on October 12 in order to travel overnight, that is also possible. The in-person schedule indicates the approximate start and end times of activities, but it is possible to arrive earlier or stay longer depending on transportation availability. Accommodation The space is shared with other people in a relaxed and informal environment. A collaborative and respectful attitude is expected for kitchen tasks, maintenance of the space, and management of the common area. From the submissions, a group of semi-finalists will be selected to visit the campus, meet with the committee (comprised of CS faculty and staff), and visit the artwork site location(s) to create a site-specific artwork proposal. Project Background and Building History: Cincinnati State is currently executing a phased, multimillion-dollar renovation of its 74-year-old Main Building at the Clifton campus. The project includes a $3 million upgrade to the Advanced Manufacturing training wing and engineering labs, as well as a new Student Success Center and a reimagined, fully accessible "Main Street" entryway.   Cincinnati State's Main Building, located at 3250 Central Parkway in the Clifton neighborhood, was originally constructed in the early 1950's to serve as Central High School. It later operated as Courter Technical High School before becoming the foundational home for Cincinnati State in 1969. As part of the renovation the lockers have been removed to say farewell to the "high school" feeling of the building. This allows for ample room for the inclusion of commissioned artwork. WHAT STILL GROWS Bodies, Plants and Practices of Care Group Exhibition Open Call Sensaflare invites artists to submit completed works for What Still Grows, a group exhibition exploring the relationships between bodies, plants and practices of care. About the Exhibition What Still Grows will take place at Lewisham Arthouse in Deptford, South East London. Lewisham Arthouse is a not-for-profit, artist-led arts organisation founded in 1992 and supported using public funding by Arts Council England. Its Project Space is a public-facing gallery supporting contemporary exhibitions, experimental projects, workshops and public programmes. The exhibition will be developed as a research-led curatorial project in which plants, space and sensory traces form a shared environment. Different bodies, memories and traditions of care will be brought into proximity, allowing overlooked forms of embodied and situated knowledge to surface and continue circulating. Installation: 16–17 September 2026 Private View: 17 September 2026, 18:00–21:00 Exhibition: 17–28 September 2026 De-installation and collection: 29 September 2026 Exhibition Concept The exhaustion of contemporary bodies arises from the relentless extraction of life’s rhythms in the name of efficiency and standardisation. Under the same logic, forms of plant knowledge grounded in touch, care and intergenerational transmission have been marginalised because they resist quantification, verification and archival capture. Bodily depletion and the silencing of knowledge are, in this sense, two effects of the same structure. The exhibition approaches plant-centred practices as ways of knowing through which this structure might be questioned. Here, plants are no longer treated merely as images of nature. They carry forms of knowledge that differ from modern systems of classification, standardisation and extraction—knowledge recognised through sensory experience and situated judgement, and passed on through families, communities, local memories and relations of care. Plants, space and sensory traces converge, inviting visitors to step temporarily outside accelerated time. The exhibition space operates as a metabolic system, bringing different bodies, memories and traditions of care into proximity. In doing so, it seeks to reactivate suppressed modes of perception, allowing embodied knowledge and situated experience to surface and continue circulating. What do our bodies remember? What continues to grow? The exhibition ultimately turns towards a question of repair: after exhaustion and injury, can these obscured forms of knowledge continue to grow? Through shared practices of care, might we begin to reweave the relationships between body, land and community? Who We Are Looking For We welcome completed works across all artistic media and forms. Submitted works may respond to one or more of the following areas: 1. Plant Rhythms and the Body Works exploring plant processes—including growth, dormancy, metabolism, decay and regeneration—in relation to human productivity, bodily exhaustion, recovery and alternative rhythms of life. 2. Plant-Borne Knowledge Works engaging with local, Indigenous, diasporic, minoritised or culturally specific forms of plant knowledge, and considering how such knowledge is preserved, transmitted, marginalised or reactivated. 3. Plants and Practices of Care Works exploring relationships between plants and collective care, healing practices, identity, migration, memory, belonging and community. 4. Classification and Extraction Works addressing botanical archives, colonial collecting practices, medical standardisation, ecological extraction and the politics of which forms of knowledge are recognised, documented or preserved. Please Note: Plants must play an integral and irreplaceable role within the work—as a central subject, material, carrier of knowledge, relational presence, or creative method—rather than serving solely as visual imagery or decoration. We particularly welcome practices informed by local knowledge, cross-cultural perspectives, personal experience, family histories, or community-based traditions. Artists whose practices involve sound, performance, participatory projects, workshops, collective growing or knowledge-sharing are also encouraged to apply. During the exhibition, we intend to connect with local organisations working across community growing, horticulture and ecological practice. Who Can Apply The open call is available to artists currently based in the UK. We welcome applications from emerging and early-career artists, as well as practitioners whose work meaningfully responds to the exhibition framework. Applicants should only propose work that will be available for the full exhibition period and that can be transported, installed and removed within the designated dates. About the Organisers Sensaflare is a London-based, research-led independent curatorial collective. Our practice focuses on narrative-driven exhibition-making, sensory and spatial approaches, embodied knowledge, informal forms of care and the relationship between contemporary artistic practice and public engagement. We develop exhibitions through dialogue between artworks, sites, artists and wider social contexts, with a particular commitment to supporting emerging artistic practices. Artist Support Selected artists will receive: - an official participating artist announcement - promotion through Sensaflare’s official social media channels (Instagram followers: 648, Rednote followers: 229) - a dedicated artist interview or feature - exhibition coverage across Lewisham Arthouse and Sensaflare’s websites and social media platforms - professional exhibition photography - an official certificate of participation - participation in a research-led group exhibition within London’s independent art scene - Selected artists may also be invited to contribute to workshops, talks, performances or other public programmes. Expected Audience We expect the exhibition to attract a mixed audience of local visitors, artists, curators, students, researchers, and members of London's independent art community. As the exhibition will take place at Lewisham Arthouse, we anticipate engagement from its existing local and artistic networks, alongside audiences reached through Sensaflare's publicity, participating artists' networks, and social media promotion. We cautiously estimate around 200-300 visitors across the exhibition period. The exhibition is likely to be of interest to audiences engaged with contemporary art. We also expect visitors from art universities, emerging artist communities, and audiences interested in artist-led and independent cultural spaces in London. Artist Responsibilities - Selected artists will be responsible for: - transporting their work to and from the venue - installing their work during the designated installation period - de-installing and collecting their work on 29 September 2026 - providing any specialist equipment required to present their work - arranging any necessary insurance for their work and equipment - completing one invigilation shift of approximately five hours during the exhibition Applicants must confirm that they can fulfil all of these responsibilities before submitting. OBRAS: Residency in Portugal (Sept 15 – Dec 15, 2026) Deadline: 15 Aug 2026 Country: Portugal OBRAS is an international art residency offering artists and researchers time, space, and solitude. Located on land known as Herdade da Marmeleira near the village of Évoramonte in the Alentejo region of Portugal, OBRAS exists to foster the conditions necessary for deep work. Residencies at OBRAS are self-directed. Residents are given time to work without expectations of finished outcomes. The emphasis is on process rather than results, and on allowing work to develop at its own pace while living alongside a small group of international artists on the property. Opportunities to share work exist, but participation is informal and never required. About every five days, we gather for a shared dinner. Each resident prepares a dish, and we eat together. It is a simple way of marking time and staying connected without turning the residency into a social program. During their stay, residents are invited to give an informal talk. This can be about their background, their current work, or the questions they are working through while here. These talks are conversational rather than formal, and often reflect work that is still in progress. Twice a year, we organise an open studio and invite the local community to visit. Residents open their studios and share what they have been working on, whether finished or not. On those days, we cook together again — a larger meal this time — and welcome guests to eat with us. It is not a formal exhibition. It is simply a way of opening the doors. Duration of residency 3 to 8 weeks Accommodation OBRAS is a small cluster of buildings and outdoor areas that have evolved. The property includes a main house with several apartments and work spaces, two cottages, four studios, outdoor working areas, and a swimming pool. The buildings sit close enough to feel connected, but far enough apart that you can move through the day without interruption. Residents live and work across the property rather than in a single building. Paths and open views connect apartments, studios, courtyards, and gardens. The scale is small enough that people encounter one another naturally, but large enough that everyone can find privacy when needed. The buildings themselves are part of the region’s rural architecture. The main house is roughly two centuries old, a typical Portuguese monte overlooking open land with the medieval fortress of Évoramonte visible on the horizon. The surrounding landscape is part of daily life at OBRAS. Many residents move between indoor and outdoor spaces as they work, stepping directly from studios and apartments into the fields and paths that surround the property. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Disciplines include but are not limited to: visual arts, video and film, installation art, fiber arts, jewelry, design music, writing, performance art, dance, theatrical, and research-based projectsStudio / Workspace The studios at OBRAS are straightforward workspaces. Some are large and open. Others are smaller and more contained. Spaces are assigned based on availability and the needs of the work. The rooms are simple: high ceilings, stone or cement floors, and natural light. There are no sinks or built-in technical infrastructure. Artists are expected to work within the limitations of the space. There are five indoor studios for working, ranging in size from 5x5m up to 10x30m. There is also a studio dedicated to music, which includes a piano and assorted musical instruments. In Addition there are multiple outdoor spaces to work. The land extends in every direction, and several defined exterior areas can be used for projects that need scale, air, or distance from walls. Some are structured by stone. Others are simply open ground. Wind, light, heat, and time of day become part of the conditions. Residents move between interior and exterior spaces depending on the needs of the work. There is no hierarchy between them. A workspace can also be a patch of earth, a circle of stone, or a stretch of open sky. The surrounding landscape is quiet but not neutral. It carries agricultural history, traces of earlier structures, and long sight-lines toward Évoramonte. For some artists, this becomes part of the work, for others, it is simply the ground on which the residency unfolds.Fees and support The apartments and houses are simple and priced according to their size and layout. All costs are per week. Casa Principal:    165€ (245€ for two people). Casa Vicente:      210€ (310€ for two). Casa Miradouro: 200€ (320€ for two). Some residents come on their own, others share the time with a partner. The spaces can accommodate both, depending on availability. Ateliers are available as needed, based on availability, and are 50€ per week. Currently, the ateliers have electricity and gas heaters but no other facilities.
