Essere means ‘to be‘ in Italian and this residency celebrates the soul of the artist with time and space to be in the tranquility and historic richness of rural Tuscany. This is a place to pause, breathe and explore. Being is prioritized over doing. In this creative incubator, there is no pressure to produce or perform. We trust that by nourishing your inner life, inspired action will result. Each person’s unique creative process is fostered within the context of a vibrant international community. Whether you need dedicated time to bring a project to completion, or space to envision something totally new, this two-week residency delivers the right amount of structure, support and solitude. Days are free to explore your creative vision and share perspectives with artists of different ages and cultures from all over the world. Evenings we come together for inspiring talks by the Artists in Residence on topics of relevance to all, such as Mindset & the Successful Artist, Coaxing the Intuitive Muse, and Authentic Marketing. These talks are followed by a delicious 3-course dinner and wine prepared by our local chef. Individual mentorship in specific disciplines is available by appointment with the AiRs and residency Director Jennie Lee will is on site for personal coaching support throughout the program. Duration of residency 2 weeks Accommodation The privately owned, historic hillside estate situated in a rural area of southern Tuscany dates to the medieval age. This peaceful hamlet houses Etruscan tombs, a tower, church, and courthouse. It is an iconic Italian landscape sure to inspire. Every resident will have a private room with a work desk in one of the six historic homes. A few double occupancy rooms are available for couples or collaborators traveling together.There are many paths to walk through the olive groves and woods surrounding the property and the nearby village of Piazze has an open market, coffee bar, massage therapist, grocery, pharmacy, and other basic services.Day trips can easily be made to beautiful towns such as Siena, Florence, Montepulciano, Assisi and many more. SYMPOIESIS / Open call 2027 Deadline: 15 Nov 2026 Country: Spain Sympoiesis (from the Greek sún, “with,” and poiesis, “creation/production”) is a term coined by feminist biologist and philosopher Donna Haraway. She closely connects it to Lynn Margulis’s theory of endosymbiosis, which explains how life evolved through cooperation and the fusion of different cells. We can also understand sympoiesis as an art of interdependence, revealing how human actions and ecosystem responses are intertwined. Similarly, participatory and community-based art projects can be seen as ways of weaving networks and generating new social ecosystems. We propose adopting this model of production across any artistic discipline: sound and listening, sculpture using biomaterials or living organisms, or the use of technologies to establish dialogue with other beings are just some examples of how this concept can be approached. Ultimately, what is proposed is to establish, through art, new alliances with our environments. In her book Staying with the Trouble, Haraway proposes that nothing is created alone (autopoiesis); rather, everything is created “with” others in complex, dynamic, and situated networks. In an artistic context, this means moving beyond the 20th-century anthropocentric idea of the artist as a solitary genius, and instead inviting collaboration between humans and “non-humans” (plants, animals, microorganisms, materials, tech- nology). It involves approaching nature—not as a mere material resource—but as an ally with whom to create jointly. It is about generating the conditions for nature to express itself through associative processes, and recognizing the landscape, the land, and its elements as co-authors of the work. We welcome writers, researchers, artists, painters and photographers. However due to the small number of rooms available, the applicants will be selected according to their project. During his/her stay, the resident is accompanied by the residency voluntary team to answer any questions, meet persons of interest, engage in the cultural scene. The Residency offers 2 different spaces. Firstly, an independent apartment with 2 bedrooms, a small kitchen, a bathroom and an individual entrance on the street. Secondly an art studio (30 sqm), with its mezzanine and private bathroom, located on the top floor of the main house of the owners. The Main house and the apartment date from 1880 and kept a lot of its charm. The residency’s specificity is a professional photo studio and dark room. Residents can attend photo workshops or print their own photographs. A bicycle is at the resident’s disposal. The BRAŻŻA Art Residency is located in the south West of France, between the towns of Cognac and Angoulême, in the country town of Châteauneuf sur Charente. This river town is at the center of an archipelago of hamlets and villages. Châteauneuf has all the amenities: a train station, a delicious food market 3 times a week, doctors and dentists, small and big supermarket and 4 cafés/bars! Additionally the municipality runs an art gallery where our residents can exhibit (if booked early enough). In summer, the open air swimming pool and the river beach makes it quite an attraction. The surroundings of Châteauneuf are fun to explore either on foot, on a bike or with the regional trains (on which you can put your bike for free). The residency will take place in Kuldīga in August 2027. Six participants from different fields and European countries will be selected to bring together diverse experiences, knowledge and skills, and to explore new, unexpected and meaningful ways not only to talk about democracy, but to experience it. “Democracy can sometimes feel like something that belongs in parliamentary chambers and official documents. During the residency, it will move beyond these formal settings and into the city, becoming part of people’s everyday lives. We are interested in one central question: how can democracy be made tangible? How can we explore participation, power, trust, difference and the challenges of living together in ways that speak not only to the mind, but also to emotions, imagination and the body? We are not looking for ready-made solutions to the challenges facing democracy today. What matters most is curiosity, a willingness to experiment and collaborate, and the ability to turn personal experience into something others can take part in,” emphasise the organisers. Over the course of three weeks, residents will develop activities to be included in the programme of the Kuldīga Democracy Festival. Residents will be encouraged to develop activities together, although individual work will also be possible. Each of the six participants will receive accommodation in Kuldīga’s Old Town and a EUR 1,000 stipend to cover everyday expenses during the residency. Simpoiesis / Open call 2027 Deadline: 15 Nov 2026 Country: Spain Sympoiesis (from the Greek sún, “with,” and poiesis, “creation/production”) is a term coined by feminist biologist and philosopher Donna Haraway. She closely connects it to Lynn Margulis’s theory of endosymbiosis, which explains how life evolved through cooperation and the fusion of different cells. We can also understand sympoiesis as an art of interdependence, revealing how human actions and ecosystem responses are intertwined. Similarly, participatory and community-based art projects can be seen as ways of weaving networks and generating new social ecosystems. We propose adopting this model of production across any artistic discipline: sound and listening, sculpture using biomaterials or living organisms, or the use of technologies to establish dialogue with other beings are just some examples of how this concept can be approached. Ultimately, what is proposed is to establish, through art, new alliances with our environments. In her book Staying with the Trouble, Haraway proposes that nothing is created alone (autopoiesis); rather, everything is created “with” others in complex, dynamic, and situated networks. In an artistic context, this means moving beyond the 20th-century anthropocentric idea of the artist as a solitary genius, and instead inviting collaboration between humans and “non-humans” (plants, animals, microorganisms, materials, tech- nology). It involves approaching nature—not as a mere material resource—but as an ally with whom to create jointly. It is about generating the conditions for nature to express itself through associative processes, and recognizing the landscape, the land, and its elements as co-authors of the work.
