Contact Darkroom Winter Residency Deadline: 01 Oct 2026 Country: United Kingdom As the days draw shorter, CONTACT Darkroom opens up its winter residency. A resource-based programme offering artists and photographers 24-hour-a-day access to fully equipped colour and black-and-white darkrooms, a dedicated workshop room, and an open gallery. Designed for both emerging and established photographers, the residency supports the production of new or existing works in a creative, experimental and community environment. Based in the market town of Totnes, Devon, the residency sits within a landscape of the River Dart, running from the upper moorlands of Dartmoor to the Atlantic coast, offering a diverse and compelling environment for reflection and experimentation. Artists are encouraged to respond to the seasonal changes and draw inspiration from the surrounding area, whether working on existing projects, testing out new ideas and processes or developing work that responds directly to place. The winters in South Devon can be magical. The rivers are full, the leaves have fallen, and there may even be snow on the moorlands. It’s a time for reflection, getting lost in the process and practice of photography and where the alchemy of the darkroom comes alive. But remember a coat. Duration of residency Our winter residency runs from November 1st 2026 to April 31st 2027, ideally starting on Fridays. Accommodation We have a range of private room lodging accommodations situated within walking distance of the darkroom. These are around £50 per night. Residents are more than welcome to find their own accommodation. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance We welcome applications from artists working across photography, film, and lens-based practices, as well as those interested in interdisciplinary work that engages with image-making, print, and alternative processes. Both emerging and established practitioners are encouraged to apply. Our facilities are designed to support a wide range of analogue and digital practices. Artists in residence will have access to: Darkroom facilities – RA4 colour print processing (up to 24-inch), black & white film development and printing, 2 colour enlargers, 3 black&white enlargers, and a large sink suitable for experimental and alternative processes. Workspaces – desk space, Wi-Fi, and an exhibition area for sharing work. Practical support – technical guidance, accommodation, shared kitchen, bike for local travel, and train station pickup on arrival. Early bird call for Spring Retreat 2027 – ARiR Guiniguada, Gran Canaria Deadline: 01 Oct 2026 Country: Spain Artist and Researcher in Residence programme, runs since 2019 in the Guiniguada valley of Gran Canaria, in the northern foothills, a long inhabited fertile area, not the touristic south. Separate studios, several terraces, shared kitchen and bathrooms. The house is our home, where we welcome you, we are present during the programme and support your projects. We are on an experimental life project trying to be less a consumer and work together with nature to a desired extent. Natural setting of the warm-loving forest zone, also ongoing agricultural activity. Rural as being part of a village, but very close to the capital city of Las Palmas or the town of Santa Brígida, thus well connected also via roads and public transport. Duration of residency Minimum stay 4 weeks (whole period). Accommodation The house is an ‘organic’ type – this means by local standards it had been used first as a series of caves, since unkown times, and the previous owners enlarged it step by step in the directions where the rocky hillside has permitted. The residency area starts above our apartment; consisting of five rooms. Each room is separate, they do not open from each other. A shared kitchen and various terraces are at your disposal, and there are two shared bathrooms. 2026 – Artist Residency Program – Casa de Mono Deadline: 01 Oct 2026 Country: Colombia Presentation Following the principles of our Foundation, an NGO whose activities are based on ecosophical knowledge, this Artist Residency Program is conceived as an interchange platform between the artists-in-residency projects and the different practices that take place in the Foundation’s house, the city and the region. Mainly, the kind of practices that establish relationships with the environment based on sensitivity towards the planet, the protection of life, human freedoms and respect for individual differences. This program is aimed at both artists (in a wide sense: from visual to performing arts, from music to writing) and cultural managers or agents interested in putting forward artistic projects aligned with discourses of ecological and social sustainability and, in general terms, with the knowledge and practices related to the values and objectives encouraged by Casa de Mono. Characteristics of the program Even though the program is thought of as a self-directed artist residency, Casa de Mono team will offer the residents guidance during the conceptualization, production and exhibition of the project. Given this is an urban residency program, we will coordinate activities that will allow the resident to easily adapt to the city and get to know the local artistic context. In this regard, the following activities are put forth: dérives in the city center and places of interest, visits to relevant artistic spaces, encounters with artists, different cultural agents, and, in general, people interested in the artist’s background and/or project. At the end of the residency we will schedule the socialization of the results obtained during the residency, which can take the shape of an exhibition, conference or open-studio session. In any case, the resident can propose other socialization strategies that better adapt to the nature of their project. Note: The duration of the residency doesn’t necessarily have to be dedicated to the production of an artwork to be exhibited. It can also be dedicated to planning or structuring a project. There are six spacious and bright rooms, two of them with private bathrooms. Each room is equipped with a fan, a closet and a desk. The common spaces consist of an open kitchen and dining room, a laundry space (a patio with a washing machine and a clothes rack), and different spaces where residents can hang out or work (two balconies and a terrace). The house counts with free Internet access. Additionally, by request of the residents, it is possible to reserve a place or storage space in one of the house workshops, equipped with basic work tools. Casa de Mono’s house is also a place for taking care, admiring, inspiring on and sharing with animals. Fellows will be assigned a mentor, who will help with the integration into the university life. Mentors are fine arts professor and can be chosen by the fellows themselves. In addition, all professors of the fine arts department will be available for artistic discourse with the fellows. Fellows will have the opportunity to present the current status of their artistic project within the university. In addition, they are expected to participate in the Welcome Weeks (April 19–30, 2027) and in a joint final presentation in January/February 2028. Duration of residency 12 months (01.04.2027 – 31.03.2028) Accommodation Private studio apartments within a converted industrial building. Fellows can move into their accommodation from April 15, 2027. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Scholarship are awarded in following categories: - visual arts (5 scholarships) - sound art (2 scholarships)Studio / Workspace The studio apartments are designed for one person and will be available rent-free for the duration of the fellowship. A contribution of 250 EUR per month towards incidental living costs must be paid by the fellows. During the funding period, fellows are required to reside at HBK for at least eight months during the lecture period in the summer and winter semesters.Fees and support Funding is provided in form of stipends in the amount of 1,600 EUR per month over a period of 12 months. The funding period will begin on April 1, 2027. There will also be an allowance for project and travel costs. Expectations towards the artist With their project proposal, fellows should make a significant contribution towards the further development of forms of artistic practice. A requirement for a fellowship is a successfully completed art degree. The most recent studies must have been completed after April 1, 2016 and before April 1, 2023. Applicants must be able to show proof of extensive artistic practice and exhibition participation.
