Artists are invited to share their visual impressions of the Charles River—from its meandering natural landscapes to the diverse communities it connects, and its vital role as both a recreational and ecological resource. Seen through the artist’s eye the flora, fauna, people, and places are reimagined as a lasting record of the environmental and social narratives that define our time. This unique exhibition will bring together artists to foster environmental awareness and give homage to the entire river as a vital thread connecting us to nature and each other. Eighty works will be selected, representing the rich and varied life of the Charles River along its full 80-mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston. Artists living in New England—both emerging and established—as well as students enrolled in New England universities, are invited to submit one original two-dimensional work. Accepted media include painting, drawing, mixed media/collage, photography and printmaking. Eighty artworks will be juried into the exhibit and eligible for over $2500 in cash awards. As a reminder, the submitting artist is responsible for reporting and paying any governmental fees, including but not limited to sales tax. Urban Ecologies: Coexistence & Control Call Post date 01/11/2026 Open Call 2027 – Urban Ecologies: Coexistence and Control The city is a shared habitat. In urban spaces, humans, animals, plants and technological systems encounter one another – visibly or out of sight, tolerated or displaced, supported or controlled. They interact within technological infrastructures, social dynamics and ecological conditions. As an interface between water, infrastructure, leisure and ecological processes, Klagenfurt’s Lendhafen provides a distinctive setting for artistic engagement with urban ecologies. The association Lendhauer invites artists to explore urban spaces as networks of diverse relationships between human and non-human actors. At the heart of the Open Call are questions of coexistence and control: What is considered useful, and what is perceived as disruptive? Who or what is allowed to remain, and who or what is excluded? Who is supported, and who is regulated? Is peaceful coexistence possible, or is it merely a utopian idea? How might possible futures be shaped? The Open Call is addressed to artists, designers, architects, performers, theorists and practitioners working in interdisciplinary contexts. Individuals and collectives based in Austria and abroad are invited to apply. We welcome both fully developed artistic positions and experimental, process-based or collaborative approaches. We are looking for artistic works to be realised at Klagenfurt’s Lendhafen that engage with the social, ecological and material conditions of public space. Urban space is understood not merely as a site for presenting a work, but as an active component of the work itself. We are interested in projects that approach urban space as a network of coexistence, control, conflict and mutual dependence – and make these relationships visible and tangible on site. Projects may take a variety of perspectives as their point of departure: the presence of wild animals in the city and their appropriation of habitats; plants between human use and ecological coexistence; constellations of animals, humans and machines; or material and symbolic forms of urban exclusion, whether directed at particular species such as pigeons or at human bodies. realisation period The selected projects will be realised between June and the end of September 2027. The exact dates and duration will depend on the nature and requirements of each project and will be agreed upon with the selected artists. ABOUT PETIT Studio PETIT Studio is a BUDGET STUDIO, perfect for WRITERS, CURATORS, THINKER, ARTISTS/DESIGNERS who do small dimensions and do not require a spacious studio. PETIT Studio Residency provides the residency at cheaper cost for those who are on a tight budget. Residency in a private fully furnished small apartment which is unique and has character, in Dorcol historic building, built in 1921-23. (approximately 40 square meters, 4.20 m high ceilings). Living in Dorćol has its charms, it could be like living in Kreuzberg in Berlin or Manhattan in NYC. A sense of history, with retro pieces of furniture and original wooden floor, windows, doors and a fully functional kitchen for the self-catering of residents, bathroom, Cable TV, Wifi, washing machine. The space was renovated over the course of a whole year and decorated following an ‘‘eclectic luxury’’ approach that combines vintage design with contemporary art. The space is filled with original art and vintage objects sourced in galleries and antique shops across Serbia and Europe. The result is a very personal, inviting space that skillfully mixes contrasting elements with surprising results. PETIT Studio is a right place for all those who wish to have the concentrated space and time away, to think and explore what can be achieved, and to see what can emerge when in an artistically charged space away from the day-to-day thinking of their norm. Nestled at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, the program offers rustic, single and double occupancy artist cottages originally built at the dawn of the 20th century. Artists are welcome to participate in all campus events and programming held during the Summer Residency Sessions. Duration of residency 5 month Historic Cottage Residency – May 3rd – September 28th 3 Month Historic Cottage Residencies – May 3rd – July 21st – July 29th – September 28th Accommodation Artists stay in one of seventeen historic artist cottages built at the dawn of the 20th century, (when the Byrdcliffe grounds were a Utopian Artist Colony). Each cottage is unique, sparsely furnished, and rustic. Artists are exposed to their natural surroundings, and should expect to encounter the local flora and fauna during their stay. Artists are required to bring all tools, setup, materials, and mediums required of their practice with them. Joya: AiR provides residents with abundant time and space to create, reflect, explore, and engage with their surroundings. She established and ran a charity for people recovering from stroke, bringing continued care, companionship and a sense of belonging to those whose UK National Health Service treatment had finished. We wish this award to carry forward something of her generosity and the quiet conviction with which she made care for others part of her life. SIXI AiR OPEN CALL 2027 SPRING & AUTUMN Deadline: 15 Nov 2026 Country: China [About SIXI AiR] Sixi Museum is a non-profit art institution that integrates the functions of collection, exhibition, academic research and public education in Nanjing, China.  Launched in 2024 to support emerging artists, the Sixi International Artist-in-Residence Project is committed to facilitating exchanges between artists from different backgrounds and helping them achieve creative breakthroughs and personal growth in their creative work. The Sixi AiR program welcomes applications from artists of all disciplines and cultural backgrounds. Capable of accommodating two artists concurrently, the program provides living and studio spaces, staff assistance, and financial support for production based on the specific characteristics of each project, catering to diverse creative and research needs. Nanjing is a distinctive Chinese city that combines traditional and contemporary culture, where contemporary art is vibrant in the midst of its rich history. As one of the few local art residency programmes, the Sixi AiR Project hopes to provide artists with the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the city. We are dedicated to help the artists to engage with the local art scene, encouraging cultural research, experimentation, and exhibitions grounded in both cross-cultural and local contexts. Sixi International Artist-in-Residence Project is recruiting 4 artists for a three-month residency in Nanjing, China, scheduled for the spring and autumn of 2027. This open call features two themes. Applications may address either theme. 1. Flux and Imprints: Contemporary Echoes of Migration History This theme focuses on cross-regional mobility, cultural reconstruction, and memory. We welcome research and artistic projects that explore topics such as the family histories of overseas Chinese, the legacy of colonialism in Asia, and identity formation within global geopolitical frameworks. Artists are encouraged to examine the tension between historical archives, oral histories, personal memories, and grand narratives, redefining these historical imprints within a contemporary context. 2. Folds of Text: Cross-Media Intertextuality and Intervention This theme conceptualizes “text” as a fluid, dynamic medium extending far beyond literal signs. We invite interdisciplinary explorations that span literature, linguistics, music/sound, and the visual arts. By deconstructing, rearranging, or translating varied medium languages, artists are expected to break traditional boundaries, uncovering hidden narrative possibilities and sensory experiences within the “folds of text”. Duration of residency Three months for each residency. Expectations towards the artist During the residency period, residents should participate in events including artist talk, workshop and open studio. At the end of each residency, Sixi AiR Project expects for tangible and presentable outcome and residents have the opportunity to have an exhibition at the end. The artist is expected to donate a selection of the artworks created during the residency to Sixi Museum. Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of applying, fully capable of completing the entire residency program; there are no restrictions on nationality. Sufficient Chinese Mandarin or English language skills in speaking and writing for research and communication. The application addresses one of the two themes listed above; the applicant demonstrates a compelling rationale for the residency, a concrete residency plan, and the capability to execute the project. Artists are requested to send following documentations in English (and in Chinese if possible). CV with profile photo. The authenticity and integrity of personal information must be guaranteed. Artist Portfolio. Should include artistic experiences, representative works and projects, professional characteristics, etc. Residency Proposal. Should include motivation of application, envisions of the residency, preliminary draft of the residency plan, the overall concept, potential demands of materials and equipment, wished residency period, preference for apartment or studio space, etc. International artists should allow sufficient time for visa processing at the time of application, usually at least 2-3 months in advance.
