Palimpsest Project 2026 | Mural Painting Open Call Deadline: 18 Dec 2026 Country: Argentina The Palimpsest Project is a mural painting residency conceived as a “work in progress”. Recovering the word palimpsest’s original meaning, the terrace in the ´ace studio becomes a living organism in which the artists paint their murals by dialoguing, intervening or overlapping with the previous ones. Palimpsest is a project in constant mutation, in which artists are encouraged to superimpose their murals or interlace them with the previous ones, achieving a new awakening of what was already on the wall. More than an individual work, the murals express the superposition of many hands, residences and artists. These actions are considered a way to embrace and, at the same time, demystify the work of the other. This residency program is aimed at established, mid-career or emerging visual artists, with a special interest in muralism and/or urban art. Groups of up to 2 members can apply together to work collaboratively. In addition, in these residencies, there is the possibility of working collectively collaborating with other residents or local artists. Duration of residency This residency program spans for 8 days to 10 days, including a public presentation of the produced work. Accommodation ´ace has two apartments — however, lodging can be arranged with us or independently, according to each resident’s needs. About the Residency Programme This electro-etching residency-workshop introduces artists to an alternative printmaking process that is safer than traditional acid etching. It uses a fully non-toxic electrical method, eliminating the acids, aerosols, rosin and asphaltum traditionally used for etching and aquatint. Artist Alfonso Crujera will guide residents through the fascinating process of electro-etching on copper or zinc plates. A better suited location than the Alpujarra is hardly imaginable, with its lovely white villages, the peace and quiet of rural surroundings, the stunning mountains and valleys and the spectacular views over the Mediterranean. Duration of residency a minimum of 2 weeks to 2 months maximum Accommodation There are two rooms available in Casa 3 where artists will stay for the duration of their residency. Both rooms have their own bathroom, toilet, airconditioning and an outdoor space. There is a shared kitchen, a washing machine and fibre internet. There is free parking 50 meters from Casa 3. Accomodation is not free, but we keep our prices at a minimum to make a residency available for everyone. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance We encourage artists of all disciplines to come and feed their creativity in Polopos. We provide a space for rest, inspiration and renewed creativity. This can be for musicians, writers, painters, movie makers, photographers you name it! We do not have all of the tools for making ceramics or iron work in our own studio but Polopos is the perfect place to prepare pigments, make sketches and plan for ceramic pieces when you get back home.Studio / Workspace There are two studios available in the residency, according to your branch of art you will be allocated with a space best suited for your needs. Each artist staying in the Alpujarras artist residence gets their own private studio space. There are a few materials provided that can be used, paints, colored pencils, paper, fabrics etc. Please let us know before you come what you would need for your art and we can see if we have what you need.Fees and support The fee for a residency is €175 per week. It is possible to bring a partner for €100 per week extra. The workspace is shared among the 3 artists in residence each month, fostering a collaborative learning environment. It is designed to support material experimentation, site-specific research, and direct dialogue with the local environment and the Kurashiki community.Fees and support As a self-funded international platform, the residency relies on a program fee with the following structure: Fee Range / Investment: An initial enrollment fee of USD 360 (payable only upon acceptance to secure the spot), followed by an installment plan of 12 monthly payments of USD 240 during the online phase. What is included: 12 months of specialized online curatorial training and regular feedback, specialized seminars, use of shared studio facilities, community living support, Wi-Fi, full on-site accommodation in Japan (room, linens, breakfast, and dinner), and a formal exhibition opportunity to showcase work at the FotoCreativaBA gallery in Buenos Aires, Argentina. What is NOT included: Airfare to Japan, personal expenses, and personal art materials. Expectations towards the artist Artists are expected to actively participate in both the online development phase and the on-site research. Upon completion of the residency, taking part in the closing activation is an integral part of the program. This includes participating in final project reviews, open studios, process-based exhibitions, or practical activations. Furthermore, artists are expected to participate in a collective presentation or public discussion, which will take place either online or physically at the FotoCreativaBA gallery.
