Accommodation During your stay, you will be in Villa Rosa. It is beautiful villa, inspired by the colonial architecture of Antigua, yet with a modern, beach influenced twist. It offers a spa-like retreat in a hidden corner of El Paredón. It has three beautiful bedrooms that all look out on to the pool and the palm trees beyond. It offers an open plan kitchen and lounge area full of artistic touches. It is home to a writing/art studio for guests to use or work remotely from. In 2014 a library was built in El Paredón by local non-profit La Choza Chula. Staying at Villa Rosa/Studio Luce enables us to pay $500 monthly to the librarian Mhajo, to pay her and her assistant’s salary. This enables the library to continue it’s full education programme, working with the primary school in the mornings and providing education opportunities in the afternoon when the school is closed. American Language Center Fes / Arabic Language Institute

Nawat Fes Deadline: 07 Jan 2027 Country: Morocco Nawat Fes offers funded residencies in the eighth-century medina of Fes, Morocco to U.S. and international creators in multiple disciplines. The initiative engages art to cultivate understanding among multifaceted cultures through the exchange of ideas. Hosted by the American Language Center Fes / Arabic Language Institute in Fez, a member of the American Cultural Association, Nawat Fes is a new program that hosted its first residencies in 2022. Through the American Language Center and its Arabic Language Institute in Fez (ALC-ALIF), Nawat Fes artists have access to multilingual staff support and opportunities for engagement with the wider community of Fes. The ALC’s main facility in Fes’ New City includes a large garden with a café, library and bookstore, where Moroccans and students of Arabic from around the world congregate to share ideas and participate in the ALC’s range of public programs. The ALIF Riad, a spacious traditional house built around a courtyard garden of orange trees, offers an additional space in the medina available for exhibitions and public programs. Two artist residents at one time live and work in a traditional house in the ancient medina of Fes, which is considered one of the most extensive and best conserved historic cities of the Arab-Muslim world. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Fes medina is one of the world’s largest pedestrian zones, containing narrow alleyways leading to ancient architectural treasures, traditional houses, artisan workshops and open-air markets. Within this unique setting, Nawat Fes provides a supportive environment for research, reflection and artistic practice, allowing artists from around the world to experience and learn from Moroccan culture, and to contribute to the local cultural conversation. Duration of residency 8 weeks Residency Periods: Nawat Fes offers four residency periods each year of roughly two months each. Artists are expected to arrive at the beginning of each residency period and to stay through the end of the residency period. Accommodation Two artist residents at one time live and work in Dar Bennis, a traditional house in the ancient medina of Fes. Images of the house are available on the Nawat Fes website. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Nawat Fes welcomes both established and emerging artists, including writers (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, screenwriting/playwriting, and literary translation), filmmakers, visual artists, conceptual and performance artists, musicians, composers and soundStudio / Workspace Each artist has a small private studio in the residency house. There is a work table and chair in each studio, but no special equipment or tools. Most things are available somewhere in the medina, and our team can help you find them.Fees and support Residencies are supported by the American Language Center Fes, which provides housing at no cost to artist residents, along with a 200-dirham/day living allowance for days they are present in Fes (depending on the exchange rate, this normally ranges from 16-20 USD/day), from which artists will provide their own food. Half of the stipend is provided on arrival, and half at the midpoint of the residency. We can recommend some excellent local cooks who can come to Dar Bennis to prepare a variety of meals, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options, as well as traditional Moroccan dishes. Artists can use their stipend to pay for this service. The ALC will host occasional community meals including other members of the Fes community. ALC-ALIF staff and volunteers will be available on a limited basis to help artists engage with the local community. Artists will also be offered the option of a complimentary 10-hour course in beginning Moroccan Arabic. Artists support the cost of their own travel, travel medical insurance, artist materials, any cost for mailing finished work out of Morocco, and all other costs. Expectations towards the artist Nawat Fes artist residents are expected to offer two opportunities for our community to engage with their work. These could be public programs such as a talk, performance, reading, lecture, workshop or concert, or an exhibition of their work during the residency. These programs are intended for local students of English and/or international students of Arabic, as well as the local community. Artists should be prepared to engage with our community in English or Arabic. There will be optional opportunities for Nawat Fes artist residents to engage in further public programming for the Moroccan community at American Language Centers in 11 other cities around Morocco, during or after their residency. Application information Eligibility: Artistic Media Supported: Nawat Fes welcomes both established and emerging artists, including writers (fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, playwriting/screenwriting, and literary translation), filmmakers, visual artists, conceptual and performance artists, musicians, composers and sound artists. We do not host dance. Artist collectives of up to three people are accepted and should submit a single application. Because a major aim of the program is to bring new international voices to the Moroccan community, preference will be given to applications from artists who are not already residing in Morocco. It is not possible for artist residents to be accompanied by spouses or partners unless the spouse/partner applies and has been individually accepted to the program. If spouses plan to visit, we request that they stay elsewhere. The program cannot accommodate children. Our initial facilities have some limitations for visual artists and artists working in sound. A high value is placed on linguistic exchange between the artists and the Moroccan community in Fes, which participates in American Language Center programs in English, so artist applicants must have good conversation skills in English. Arabic and French are helpful but not required. Nawat Fes will accept residency applications only from artists holding passports eligible for visa-free entry with a minimum stay of 60 days (in other words, those listed as “exempted from entry visa into Morocco”—artists who have to submit an application for a visa are not eligible.) KuBa: kulturbahnhof is located on the site of a former train station in the village of Klein Warnow (Brandenburg), on the Berlin-Hamburg railway. The residency program offers artists, writers and cultural scientists a place to work, create and experiment. The interaction with this unique location is an essential element of the project. The artistic directors of KuBa: kulturbahnhof are Sharon Horodi and Mika Maria Kammerer. The two are artists, active in the field of painting, printing, video, photography, performance-art and creative writing. Both have many years of experience in curating exhibitions and artistic events, community based art projects and trans-cultural exchange programs. A train station is a place of transition. It holds stories of arrival and departure, of anticipation, memory, joy, and longing. Like art itself, it exists between the intimate and the collective, connecting people, places, and ideas. Our vision is to create a residency that nurtures focused individual practice while encouraging meaningful encounters—with fellow residents, the local environment, and the cultural heritage of the site. Length of stay is 1-3 months (Dec 2026 and/or Jan, Feb 2027). Submissions to our self-funded program are open to artists, musicians, performers, writers, and researchers of all backgrounds to focus on their work in a remote landscape with opportunities for artistic and cultural exchange. Winter in North Iceland is defined by auroras, swimming pools, snow, long sunsets, and fading daylight. We usually have 8 to 12 artists a month in private bedrooms sharing common areas in a three-story house. Within our complex of private studios and residences, visiting artists form a small, intense community hard at work amid 20,000 acres of Wyoming ranchland. Ucross is set on a working ranch at the confluence of three creeks, and its purpose is to bring artists into the heart of an unparalleled landscape. We believe that being a responsible steward of the land closely resembles being a good artist, and vice versa—both require dedication, imagination, and the best possible use of available resources. Since its founding in 1981 and first residency period in 1983, Ucross has grown into a vital and relevant resource for artists of all backgrounds and disciplines, who come to Ucross from across the United States and the world. The uninterrupted time and space we offer are increasingly rare, and the connections built within our community are of great importance to artists. We are honored that our artist residency program plays a dynamic, invaluable role in the creative life of our country. Duration of residency Residencies may be two, four, or six weeks. At any one time, up to ten individuals are in residence, typically a mix of writers, visual artists, composers, and choreographers. Accommodation Ucross provides each artist with private living accommodations, meals, workspace, and uninterrupted time to focus on their creative process. Meals are prepared Monday through Friday by a professional chef, with ample provisions on hand for breakfasts and weekends. Lunches are delivered to individual studios, while group dinners take place at 6 p.m. Towels and all linens are provided, as is weekly housekeeping for bedrooms. Cell phone service and wireless internet are available throughout the residency facilities. Residents are responsible for providing their own working materials and travel to Sheridan, Wyoming. There is no charge for a residency. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance The residency program is open to visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary artists, performance artists, and collaborative teams. Applicants must exhibit professional standing in their field; both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Ucross functions as a research-and-development lab for the arts, encouraging residents to experiment and explore without the requirement to produce finished work.Studio / Workspace All studio spaces are private, allowing residents ample time for private work and the opportunity for lively exchange during group dinners. Summer 2027 Residency – EARLY ACCEPTANCE Deadline: 15 Jan 2027 Country: Greece The Mudhouse is an artist residency located in the village of Agios Ioannis on the Island of Crete, Greece. The Mudhouse Residency aims to provide artists inspiration derived from an engagement with the stunning natural beauty of its environment, solitude to foster creative growth, an artistic community to enrich professional practices, and an immersive cultural experience within a profoundly rich historical context. Started in 2015, the Mudhouse offers its two-week residency sessions each summer for international contemporary artists working across a manifold of artistic disciplines, from paint, to ceramics, to experimental film. Hosting an incredibly diverse, multicultural, multi-generational cohort of artists in each residency session, the Mudhouse encourages dialogues across traditional boundaries. The artists’ time is their own, to focus on their art practice and explore the rich history of southern Crete and the Minoan civilization. Each residency session features a guided tour of a Minoan archaeological site. Studio H Canada welcomes artists from Canada and around the world for four-week residencies on Canada’s Pacific west coast. We are in rural Metchosin, British Columbia, on the unceded territory of the SC’IȺNEW Nation. Gardens and forest surround the studio, in a seaside community of farms, lakes and mountains. We have put years of care and investment into a place where artists can feel at home and give their work the time and attention it deserves. Private accommodation offers comfort and quiet; shared studio and living spaces allow for conversation and creative exchange. You might bring a project already underway, a material you want to explore, or a question you need time to consider. Once you arrive, it becomes your residency. Who should apply? You may be working with textiles or fibre, following a research question, writing, exploring sound, or bringing several disciplines together. Time to work, a well-equipped shared studio, comfortable private accommodation and the surrounding landscape all contribute to the experience here. We typically host two artists at a time. That small scale allows us to get to know one another, discuss work and learn from different practices, with space for solitude as well. Creative exchange and collaboration develop through shared interests. Artist and founder , a Red River Métis citizen with Icelandic and Swedish settler ancestry, is an interdisciplinary artist involved in the regional arts community. Her mentoring grows out of conversations about your work and what would be useful to you. It can include discussing ideas, sharing a technique, working through a material or technical question, offering feedback, or considering how to share your work with an audience. You retain direction of your practice, with an experienced fellow artist available to think things through with you. Living Lightly on the Land guides how we care for the gardens, forest, shared spaces and resources we use. Artists become part of that everyday care during their stay. Your work can explore any subject; this is about our relationship with the place and with one another. Duration of residency All residencies are four weeks ling. Artists arrive on Sunday at noon and depart on the final Saturday by noon. This Open Call is for the first residency period of 2027. Nine four-week periods are offered during the year, with a full one-week break between each. Periods begin from February to November, and the final period ends in December. Both the Studio Suite and View Suite have a private bedroom and bathroom. The Studio Suite also has a private lounge and breakfast facilities. A shared main kitchen in the View Suite provides space for full meal preparation, food storage and dishes. Gardens, barbecue, outdoor spaces, laundry and the hot tub are shared. We typically host two artists, with suite allocation depending on availability. All bed linens, kitchen towels, and bath towels, mats etc. are provided. Cleaning supplies, laundry soap, and some toiletries and first aid kit are also provided. Artists manage their own groceries, meals, laundry and everyday routines. Studio H provides arrival pickup from Victoria International Airport (YYJ) or the ferry terminal (Swartz Bay or Victoria harbour), arranged in advance. Plan separately for day-to-day transportation, materials and off-site activities. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Choose Textile or Multimedia for your primary activity when applying. Textile supports textile, fibre and related processes, with resources for weaving, sewing, machine embroidery, felting and fibre processing. Multimedia welcomes visual art, sculpture, photography, video, sound, installation, printmaking, book arts, writing, academic research, music, performance and interdisciplinary work. Research can be part of either option. We also know that often artists come to work on video for example and can end up creating something on the embroidery machine and vice versa. Choosing a primary activity doesn't mean you can't do other things, it just helps us plan. . Shared work surfaces, studio tools, digital and general resources, high-speed internet and outdoor working possibilities support different ways of creating. Artists bring or source materials specific to their practice; a broad range of materials is also available here. Discuss specialist equipment, noise, ventilation, scale and technical needs before arrival. Mentoring, feedback and practical problem-solving are available when useful. The main studio is approximately 1,000 square feet, with high ceilings, large wall surfaces and room for changing configurations. Worktables, walls and other working surfaces can be arranged according to the needs of the artists in residence while respecting shared space and each other’s work. The studio is in a separate building from the resident accommodation and overlooks the garden, forests, and some sea views. A flat concrete area outside the studio can extend the working space for painting, construction, sanding and other suitable activities when weather and the nature of the work allow. High-speed internet is available. Please note: the rural property has a steep driveway, uneven ground and some stairs and is not suitable for wheelchair or walker access. Review the FAQ and discuss accessibility or other practical needs during the application conversation.Fees and support $2,450 CAD total residency fee, plus applicable taxes: $2,200 base residency fee, $100 non-refundable fund deposit supporting the Irene Borins Ash Commemorative Textile Residency, and $150 Maintenance & Sustainability fee. The same base rate applies to the Studio Suite and View Suite. Group arrangements are discussed individually. There is no application fee. Depending on the residency, Studio H may provide in-kind supports for promotion and advertising of events and hospitality. Artists cover travel, food, materials, production costs and personal expenses. All residency fees are paid before arrival; a payment instalment plan is available. Studio H does not provide direct funding for this regular Open Call. Accepted artists with an agreement and the required deposit may request a letter to support an external funding application. See current residency fees and accommodation information. Expectations towards the artist We ask artists to come with intention, curiosity and care for the place and the people sharing it. You direct your practice, and a fixed outcome is not required. Artists manage their daily needs and contribute to a respectful shared living and working environment. Arrival orientation helps you settle in and covers studio and property routines, safety, Living Lightly on the Land, Living Together, and Indigenous Protocols. An artist talk, workshop, exhibition or open studio is optional, discussed individually and subject to feasibility. Public activities need advance planning; Studio H requires 90 days to plan, promote and coordinate events. Collaboration is welcome when mutually desired. Use the 2027 online application form to share your practice, preferred residency option and dates, and any materials, equipment or practical supports you may need. Include website or portfolio links and a current CV. If your work is not available online, upload five images as requested in the form. Applications for later 2027 residencies remain open on an ongoing basis, subject to availability. We review applications for artistic fit, residency fit and practical readiness. Selected applicants are invited to a Google Meet conversation: a chance to discuss your ideas, ask questions and explore whether Studio H is a good fit for you. Resident Guides are introduced at the interview so you can make an informed decision before an agreement is offered.
