Residencies for textile artists and scholars in Iceland – open call Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Iceland Ós residency at the Textile Center in Blönduós, Iceland, seeks to promote an atmosphere of creativity, experimentation and reflection for artists and scholars working inside the textile field. We accept submissions from emerging, mid-career, and senior level artists and scholars all year round (open call). The residency is situated in a historic building and former Women’s College in Blönduós, northwest Iceland. The residency can accommodate 8-14 artists every month. Each resident is provided with his/her own bedroom equipped with a small desk and scenic view, access to studio facilities and open plan work space in the communal studio. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. We also offer a Tc2 residency and private accommodation for groups (4 max.) or individual artists in two houses next door. Since 2021, artists in residence also have access to the Textile Center’s TextileLab (not included in the residency fee!). Depending on availability (sign up on site), artists can work with equipment including a Tc2 sample loom, felt loom, tufting guns, digital knitting machine, digital sewing machine, laser cutter and printer. Artists in residence also have access to the Textile Museum in Blönduós. In walking distance, there is a great gym and heated outdoor pool. Since it first opened in 2013, the residency has hosted many textile artists and scholars from all around the world. Since 2017, residents are featured in our annual Ós Residency Catalog. The Textile Center does not offer or facilitate exhibitions on a regular basis, but artists in residence are welcome to initiate open houses, group or solo exhibitions. Open Call: Non-Toxic Electro-Etching Workshop & Residency – Autumn & Winter 2026 Gran Canaria Island, Spain Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Spain A hands-on residency in Gran Canaria dedicated to electro-etching, sustainable printmaking and artistic experimentation. Experience Innovation in Printmaking This workshop-residency invites artists to discover electro-etching not simply as an alternative technique, but as a contemporary way of rethinking intaglio printmaking: safer, cleaner, precise and open to unexpected visual results. Led by Alfonso Crujera, specialist in electro-etching and author of The Electro-Etching Handbook: A Safe, Non-Toxic Approach, the residency offers an intensive and personal learning experience for artists who wish to deepen their technical knowledge while expanding the expressive possibilities of their work. Since 2002, Crujera has introduced artists and printmakers from many different countries to this non-toxic approach, combining practical studio experience with a clear commitment to safer and more environmentally responsible methods. The residency takes place in a quiet rural setting within the landscape of the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding farmland. Far from the noise of the city, the studio offers time, space and concentration: the right conditions for research, trial, error, discovery and artistic growth. Electro-etching brings renewed energy to traditional intaglio. It allows artists to work with line, tone, texture and depth while avoiding many of the hazardous procedures associated with conventional etching. At the same time, it opens a wide field for experimentation, making the process accessible, adaptable and rich in creative potential. The programme combines individual guidance, independent studio time and a warm, family-like atmosphere. During the stay, residents may also be introduced to the cultural context of the island through visits to contemporary art centres and other places of artistic interest, encouraging both professional development and cultural exchange. Duration of residency From two weeks to one month. Accommodation Artists will stay in a private apartment equipped with a kitchen and bathroom, free Wi-Fi access, and an art library available for consultation, study and inspiration. Winter and Summer RESIDENCY in LISBON _ EUROATLA Residency Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Portugal This residency is an opportunity for international artists to stay and work in Lisbon for one to six months. The Euroatla residency is an independent artist space meant for self-sufficient artists looking for a place of reflection away from their usual environment. Euroatla has two formats of residency to choose from. The first is an independent residency solely based at Euroatla while the other is done in partnership with Hangar, which includes an open day and curatorial support. Outside of ordinary constraints such as day jobs, commissions and exhibition deadlines, residencies offer artists the time, space and resources to experiment with their work and try new approaches. By connecting with Lisbon’s art scene and being in a new context artists can take away new ideas and viewpoints that will benefit the development of their practice. Duration of residency The minimum period required is one month and the maximum six months. Accommodation Euroatla provides a private self-contained living and working space located in a building with another studio that is used by Portuguese artists. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Euroatla is open to emerging and established artists from all disciplines within the visual arts. It is also open to researchers, writers, musicians, curators and cultural programmers.Fees and support Euroatla is an independent project. SÍM Residency

SÍM Residency Reykjavík Open call for 2026 Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Iceland The SÍM Residency invites artists and cultural practitioners to apply for its self-funded Artist-in-Residence Programme 2026 in downtown Reykjavík. Rooted in the Icelandic art scene and open to the world, SÍM Residency offers time, space, and context for artistic research, reflection, and exchange. The programme supports practices that engage with place, material, ecology, language, and contemporary cultural conditions – encouraging slow processes, experimentation, and dialogue. Residents live and work at Seljavegur 32 in downtown Reykjavík, within a shared yet independent environment, with access to private and communal studios, public moments of exchange, and presentation formats that foreground research as much as outcome. The residency unfolds through: – Orientation and collective introduction – Public Artist Talks – Group exhibitions and shared presentations – Ongoing engagement with Reykjavík’s artistic community – A digital exhibition archive extending beyond the physical stay Artists may join the programme for one to three months. The open call runs year-round, with applications reviewed weekly. We welcome proposals that respond to questions of sustainability, ecology, geology, environment, Icelandic culture, Nordic languages, and postmodern society – while remaining open to diverse disciplines, methodologies, and forms of inquiry. SÍM Residency is a sustainable residency without receiving state grants. Visiting artists pay a residency programme fee of 50.000 ISK (single fixed fee for duration of the programme) and monthly accommodation fee from 140.000 ISK per month. This meets the minimum cost of running the residency program. The fee includes administration, a residency program, accommodation, and studio space. Duration of residency 1-3 months. Granted residency is from the third day of the first month to the last day of the relevant month. Accommodation Residency apartment and studios located at Seljavegur 32 in the western part of Reykjavík city center. The building has a rich and layered history, reflecting Reykjavík’s architectural and cultural development over the past century. The plot was originally handed over to the Reykjavík Lighthouse Authority in 1942, to relocate its data warehouse from Klapparstígur. In May 1945, permission was granted to build a three-story concrete office and equipment building, which was completed in October 1946. The structure was built of reinforced concrete, covered with quartz, and featured an iron-clad roof. It has two main wings – the west wing facing Seljavegur and the north wing facing Holtsgata. Originally, the ground floor housed a car repair and machine workshop, the second floor was used as a lighthouse data factory, and the top floor contained offices. Plans were made in 1948 to expand the building northeast along Seljavegur, though the extension was never constructed. Later that year, part of the west-wing roof was destroyed by fire, leading to reconstruction that included a small tower structure with a balcony on the southwest corner. A concrete boiler house was added in December 1948, and by 1949, 14 storage rooms had been established on the roof level. From 1952, the building served as the headquarters of the Icelandic Coast Guard, and it remained largely unchanged until 1981, when modifications were made to the roof structure and interior. In 2006, the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM) began leasing the building, transforming it into a vibrant artistic hub with 55 artist studios and residency accommodation for visiting international artists. Today, Seljavegur 32 houses the SÍM Residency, one of Iceland’s longest-running international artist-in-residence programmes. The building combines its original industrial character with the creative energy of Reykjavík’s contemporary art community. Located just a 10-minute walk from the old city center, the residency is surrounded by cultural landmarks and amenities, including libraries, museums, galleries, supermarkets, swimming pools, cinemas, restaurants, and the University of Iceland. The SÍM Residency apartment includes 18 private bedrooms, a mix of private and shared workshop spaces, and a large open project area used for events and group exhibitions. All residents share common facilities such as kitchens, bathrooms, and showers. Each month, the residency hosts up to 20 – 22 artists, creating a lively and collaborative atmosphere that encourages artistic exchange and experimentation. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Disciplines: We are open to all art forms and practices - from contemporary visual arts to multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. We welcome cultural practitioners, creative writers, dancers, performance artists, sound artists, and more. Work Equipment: Artists are responsible for funding their own work equipment and materials. The residency provides basic tools, some IT equipment, and recyclable materials that artists may use freely. Additionally, SÍM Residency can help artists connect with external professional workshops and facilities, such as sculpture studios, Fab Lab, ceramics workshops, dance studios, and sound recording facilities. Please note that additional fees may apply depending on the workshop. Assistance: Before and during the residency, artists receive guidance and introductory meetings, as well as mentorship from the residency staff to support their needs. In addition, artists are granted a SÍM membership card, which provides free entrance to local museums and galleries, as well as discounts at certain art supply stores and other cultural venues.Studio / Workspace Each artist is provided with a private or shared working space, depending on availability and the artist’s preference. Additional external public workshops or professional artist-run studio workshops are also available. Please note that extra fees may apply and are paid directly to the workshop hosts.Fees and support Artists are required to pay the residency programme and accommodation fees. In addition, artists are responsible for their own travel, insurance, and living expenses. SÍM Residency does not have a dedicated funding body and, unfortunately, cannot offer scholarships or stipends. We therefore strongly recommend that artists seek funding opportunities in their home countries, as most Icelandic funding schemes are primarily intended for Icelandic artists or projects. All selected artists receive an official letter confirming their participation in the residency program, which may support their applications for external funding to cover the cost of their stay. Expectations towards the artist Who can apply? – We welcome all creators and art practitioners to propose an art or research project. This includes individuals working in all mediums of visual arts, design, architecture, music, dance, performance art, creative writing, curation, cultural work, and scientific research. Our residency programs aim to bring together diverse artists and researchers, fostering a shared time and space for networking and the exchange of professional knowledge. Note: While the SÍM Residency was originally established for visual artists and is best suited to their needs, creators working with music, sound, dance, or performance are also welcome to apply. Please be aware that we do not provide professional equipment or stage facilities for these practices. However, we have strong collaborations with local creators who can offer workshops or resources to help you realize your art project. Who has to consider applying? – Artists with children: Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate artists with children due to safety regulations and limited accessibility. Both residency apartments are located on the second floor, and access is only via staircases. As such, we are unable to meet the strict safety requirements necessary to host children. – Artists with disabilities: We deeply regret that our facilities are not accessible to individuals with disabilities. Due to the same staircase-only access, we are unable to provide accommodations that meet accessibility standards, and government permissions have not been granted to support these needs. – Short-term applicants: The minimum stay at the residency is three months. Artists seeking stays shorter than one month are unfortunately not eligible to apply. – Individuals sensitive to dynamic environments: We encourage individuals who are highly sensitive to social engagement or navigating particularly challenging periods of their lives to consider their application carefully. The residency program hosts a vibrant community of creators from diverse artistic disciplines, cultural backgrounds, and walks of life. The shared living spaces, including kitchens and living rooms, naturally foster interactions and social activities, such as preparing meals together, sharing stories, or enjoying movies as a group. This dynamic and lively environment is designed to inspire collaboration and connection, but it may not be suitable for everyone. If you are not used to it or feel uncomfortable with such an environment, we recommend looking into other residency programs that might suit you best. Requirements for the applicant – Educational Background: Applicants to be considered must hold a BA degree as the lowest level of education to be eligible for the residency program. Exceptions may be made for self-taught artists who demonstrate high professionalism in their artistic practices, supported by a compelling CV and project proposal. – Language Proficiency: English is the primary language of communication at SÍM Residency. Therefore, applicants must have the ability to understand, speak, and write in English to effectively participate in the program. – Community Conduct: The SÍM Residency fosters an open, respectful, and inclusive community, welcoming artists from around the world. Any actions that create an intimidating, threatening, or hostile environment are strictly prohibited. Abusive or harassing behavior, whether verbal or physical, that disrespects personal characteristics or beliefs – such as sex, sexual orientation, race, national origin, religion, or disability – will result in disciplinary measures, including immediate eviction from the program. Applicants must demonstrate respect towards SÍM staff and fellow artists. – Participation in Activities: Residency activities such as Artist Talks, group exhibition, and project presentations are optional but encouraged. Artists are expected to engage and participate in all events. Mandatory participation includes: – A private introduction meeting at the beginning of each month. – A group cleaning session at the end of each month. – Cleanliness and Maintenance: Artists are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their bedrooms/studios and shared facilities. Apartments must be left in good condition upon departure. Upon arrival, SÍM and the artist will establish a deposit agreement. The goal of EAR is to provide a positive and productive location for artists from all over the world to come and stay and create new work and networks. Edenhope is a small town with daily conveniences such as a supermarket (with hardware & haberdashery), post office, pharmacy and a pub and cafe/bakery. There is also a medical centre, hospital, variety of churches, motel with restaurant, local community art gallery, opp shop, antique shop, and the southern hemisphere’s only Dachshund Museum! There is a strong arts presence in the wider area with both nearest major towns home to regional galleries, a number of arts festivals and the nearby Silo Arts Trail. Group trips and tours can be arranged to visit local hiking spots, geological sites, galleries and places of interest, and larger towns for shopping. With natural scenery, farmland and key geographical sites of interest in all directions including the World Heritage Listed Naracoorte Caves, Bailey’s Rocks, Mt Arapiles (known for its world class mountain climbing), Little Desert National Park, and the Coonawarra Wine Region nearby. A number of exciting and inspiring locations are a day trip away including the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park, pink Lake Tyrrell, Victoria’s largest saltwater lake and the Murtoa Stick Shed. Open Call | 6th Residency Edition R.A.R.O. Bogotá Deadline: 11 Dec 2026 Country: Colombia R.A.R.O. is an international residency program that proposes an alternative model based on a wide network of studios and cultural spaces, rather than a single workspace. Through this collaborative structure, over 28 local artists’ studios, art departments from public and private universities, and other interdependent cultural projects welcome residents and support their creative processes across the program’s various formats. Founded in Buenos Aires in 2014, R.A.R.O. has hosted more than 450 artists from all over the world. Since 2024, the program has also operated in Bogotá (Colombia), where it has received over 100 artists, curators, and researchers. Throughout its history, the program has established alliances with various institutions to promote grant programs and strengthen artistic creation, the exchange of knowledge, and co-learning through both short and long-term residencies. The R.A.R.O. proposal invites participants to work alongside artists, curators, managers, and researchers in a dynamic of itinerancy, dialogue, and collaboration, where each space in the network functions as a node for learning and experimentation. In addition to studio work, the program includes complementary activities such as visits to museums and public and private collections, artist talks, field trips, and work critiques, broadening and deepening the experience of every residency. Duration of residency We invite artists, managers, curators, and other interested parties from Colombia and all nationalities to apply for the 6th Edition R.A.R.O. Bogotá, which is open until December 11th, 2026. The R.A.R.O. Bogotá program is aimed at a wide range of profiles, including artists with or without academic training, self-taught, emerging, or professional creators of any background, and researchers working in any artistic medium. Furthermore, the call extends to curators, cultural and social managers, human rights defenders, and anyone interested in developing projects linked to art and culture. This residency format consists of a period of six (6) weeks. Within this timeframe, four (4) weeks are dedicated to working in the selected studios. Palimpsest Project 2026 | Mural Painting Open Call Deadline: 18 Dec 2026 Country: Argentina The Palimpsest Project is a mural painting residency conceived as a “work in progress”. Recovering the word palimpsest’s original meaning, the terrace in the ´ace studio becomes a living organism in which the artists paint their murals by dialoguing, intervening or overlapping with the previous ones. Palimpsest is a project in constant mutation, in which artists are encouraged to superimpose their murals or interlace them with the previous ones, achieving a new awakening of what was already on the wall. More than an individual work, the murals express the superposition of many hands, residences and artists. These actions are considered a way to embrace and, at the same time, demystify the work of the other. This residency program is aimed at established, mid-career or emerging visual artists, with a special interest in muralism and/or urban art. Groups of up to 2 members can apply together to work collaboratively. In addition, in these residencies, there is the possibility of working collectively collaborating with other residents or local artists. micro-Residency 2026 | ´acePIRAR Artist-in-Residence International Program—Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA Deadline: 18 Dec 2026 Country: Argentina WE HAVE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF micro-RESIDENCIES: Production and Exploration 2-weeks micro-Residencies, both of them spanning for two weeks. Our residencies support contemporary visual art practices and trans-disciplinary projects (including performance art, sound art and curatorial proposals) promoting EXCHANGE, DEBATE, EXPERIMENTATION and COLLABORATIVE WORK. Applications for the micro-Residency program are open year-round. ´ace doesn’t charge for an application fee and all of its residencies have a reduced fee for candidates who are 30 years old and under. Duration of residency micro-Residencies span for two working weeks (Monday to Friday, from 10am to 6pm). Accommodation ´ace has two apartments — however, lodging can be arranged with us or independently, according to each resident’s needs. Buenos Aires is a city full of options ranging from inexpensive hostels to a room in a private house or high-end quality hotels. We are located in a multicultural city, one of Latin America’s cultural centers that has a wide offer of visual arts, theatre, cinema and music to experience. The ´ace team will guide you through all sorts of cultural and artistic activities happening in this pulsating Latin American city that hosts great events, such as arteBA (contemporary art fair), FIBA (theatre festival), BAFICI (independent cinema festival), Performance Biennial (performance art), FILBA (literature festival), BAPhoto (photography fair) and many other exhibitions, conferences, festivals and more. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance ´ace hosts residencies for artists, curators and researchers from a wide range of mediums and languages, such as print media, photography, video, performance art, sound art, installation, design as multiple object, digital media, artist books, painting, illustration, textiles, new media and the interweaving between them or with other contemporary art practices. We have a fully equipped workshop for non-toxic print media techniques such as photolithography, engraving, screen printing, woodcut, mokuhanga, mokulito, monotype, algraphy, bookbinding and more. Our workshop has presses, tools and an assistant (available per request) who works in direct contact with our residents to secure safe work methods, permanent feedback during the creative process and active learning through first-hand experience and experimenting. The ´ace team has deep knowledge and expertise in art critique, performance art, installations, print media, and photography, and is available at all stages of the residency period to discuss possible ideas with active residents.Studio / Workspace The Workshop is a large, quiet space with lots of natural light and equipment to facilitate a variety of traditional and new printing processes, works on papers, monotypes and artists books. In addition, the Políglota Room is a perfect space for performance art, audio-visual installations, lectures, video projections, etc. Residents can also work in The Tower: a silent and luminous studio located on the second floor with an open view, accessible by a spiral staircase. It is ideal to do research, study, write and create in an independent atmosphere. Other studios can be set up according to the project proposal and each resident’s needs. There are also many tools available and a lab for photosensitive print media techniques, as well as video and sound equipments already installed for video projections or audio-visual explorations. Residents in a micro-Residency can use The Workshop, The Tower or the Dialogue Space, where they set up and make the most out of their short but intense stay with us.Fees and support WE DON’T CHARGE ANY APPLICATION FEE. Residencies have a basic fee and residency candidates can select other options. Basic fee covers: studio space; access to equipment; workshop materials (depending on the needs of the project); reviews from a professional team permanently available; pre-production and production assistance; lunchs, refreshments, fruits, snacks and beverages at studio hours; accident insurance at the studio; guidance through the city and its cultural events; public transportation card; professional networking; a profile on ´ace’s website. We also offer residents the chance to pair residents with local artists and/or curators for a collaborative project, should it be wished for or necessary. The residency fee DOES NOT include: travel costs to and from Buenos Aires, travelers’ health insurance, costs of visas (if necessary), per diem and shipping expenses for the produced work (we suggest always to bring the work back with you and not to ship it). Expectations towards the artist Residents at ´ace are expected to work on a specific project proposed by them or to do their own research without a specific outcome in mind — in both cases, presented projects are plausible of evolving through experiences acquired within the residency period, and residents are encouraged to embrace these experiences with an open heart and mind.
