Why Choose Ongoing? The greatest attraction of Art Center Ongoing is its large artists network. Since its establishment in 2008, Ongoing has grown to be one of the most successful Tokyo art spots where active on-going artists in their 20s and 30s always get together and exchange their views seeking for new expressions of art. Hanging out with Ongoing artists with beer on a hand is a greatest way to learn what’s going on in young artists’ minds in Tokyo now. The location is another attraction of Ongoing AIR. The Ongoing gallery and our accommodation are both located in Kichijoji, one of the most popular cities in Tokyo. Because of its deep culture and rich nature, many artists, writers and various genres of creators are attracted to this area. Taking a walk in a beautiful park, Inokashira-koen, 5 minute away from Kichijoji station is always refreshing and inspiring. Easy access to the heart of Tokyo is another good point of Kichijoji. Open call for Hakoniemi residency in Saimaa archipelago, Finland Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Finland Founded in 2019 in Oravisalo, Rääkkylä, North Karelia, Finland. Hakoniemi residency is a peaceful and inspiring working environment, located and inspired by the beautiful lake-side nature of Northern Saimaa archipelago. We would like to offer a residency place for sustainable work plans of different kinds, and an interest to the natural environment. The residence is suitable for artists, musicians, writers, artisans, designers, researchers and architects among others. We also run the Hako x Helsinki Residency in the capital. You may apply for a combined residency at both locations or choose just one. For 16 years, the farm of Hakoniemi in Oravisalo was inhabited by painter Jorma Pajarinen. His studio and a barn gallery were located in the yard of the Hakoniemi farm. Hakoniemi with its surroundings is an ideal destination for artistic work. In addition to the lake-side nature, the proximity of the Russian border and the history of the region are strongly present. The nearby Salpapolku offers a chance to get to know Finnish military history and the diverse nature of the Northern Saimaa archipelago. With the recovery of the endangered Saimaa ringed seal (Pusa hispida saimensis), there is a real possibility to spot one these chubby swimmers sun bathing on the cliffs. For the founders of Hakoniemi Residence Support Association, it is important to revive the culture, music, design and diverse art of Rääkkylä. Through the residence, the support association and artists are able to work in co-operation with the local community and companies. We want residency artists to experience the same inspiring environment of the Saimaa archipelago that has been provided to us for decades. The lakes, nature, animals, people and everyday life on the inland islands of the Northern Saimaa are the source of inspiration for artistic and creative work. Please note that there is no permanent staff living in the Hakoniemi house, so the residency is best suited for guests who are used to work and reside in self-directed environments. The location is remote, situated 15km away from the village center with no public transportation. Duration of residency 1 week – 5 months Accommodation The residence offers work space for artists and creators. The 82 square meter house has two bedrooms. Kitchen, living room, indoor sauna, bathroom and toilet facilities are all shared between the residents. The well-equipped kitchen, work space, piano, indoor sauna, bicycles, Kicksled “potkukelkka” (in the winter time) are at the guests’ disposal free of charge. There is also a private beach, lean-to shelter laavu and barbecue facilities for the residents.In the vicinity of the beach, the Quiet House offers a place for tranquility surrounded by birds and a lake. Outdoor sauna is available for an additional charge. There is a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, television and a fast 30 Mbps internet connection in the residency. The forests have gone quiet as they drink up the rains, but the air is fresh with evergreen cedar boughs, pine and fir, and the moss has turned back into its brightest shades of green. A gorgeous container for your creative rest and renewal, The Ou’s studios and accommodations have been thoughtfully appointed and kitted out, so that all that’s left for you to focus on is you and your work. Maybe that looks like learning how to nap again. Maybe it looks like staring out at the trees and watching squirrel acrobatics while the heron fishes below. Maybe it looks like long, uninterrupted studio hours. The choice is yours, and you are welcome here. Winter is mild here on Vancouver Island – for us that means cool, rainy days. We welcome artists from all disciplines and at all stages of their practice: musicians, dancers, writers, photographers, filmmakers, visual artists, performers, textile practitioners and those whose work resists definition. Some arrive with a clear project in mind; others arrive with unfinished ideas, creative blocks or the desire to experiment without the pressure of immediate results. Life at Escola Normal unfolds through shared meals, late-night conversations, rehearsals, walks to concerts, spontaneous collaborations and time spent alone with one’s work. Residents have access to music, photography, visual arts and sewing studios, as well as presentation spaces and the cultural programme of the house. There are no mandatory outcomes. We do not believe every residency should end with a polished product. Residencies for textile artists and scholars in Iceland – open call Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Iceland Ós residency at the Textile Center in Blönduós, Iceland, seeks to promote an atmosphere of creativity, experimentation and reflection for artists and scholars working inside the textile field. We accept submissions from emerging, mid-career, and senior level artists and scholars all year round (open call). The residency is situated in a historic building and former Women’s College in Blönduós, northwest Iceland. The residency can accommodate 8-14 artists every month. Each resident is provided with his/her own bedroom equipped with a small desk and scenic view, access to studio facilities and open plan work space in the communal studio. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. We also offer a Tc2 residency and private accommodation for groups (4 max.) or individual artists in two houses next door. Since 2021, artists in residence also have access to the Textile Center’s TextileLab (not included in the residency fee!). Depending on availability (sign up on site), artists can work with equipment including a Tc2 sample loom, felt loom, tufting guns, digital knitting machine, digital sewing machine, laser cutter and printer. Artists in residence also have access to the Textile Museum in Blönduós. In walking distance, there is a great gym and heated outdoor pool. Since it first opened in 2013, the residency has hosted many textile artists and scholars from all around the world. Since 2017, residents are featured in our annual Ós Residency Catalog. The Textile Center does not offer or facilitate exhibitions on a regular basis, but artists in residence are welcome to initiate open houses, group or solo exhibitions. The program is non-prescriptive and process-based, allowing visiting researchers and curators to develop projects in response to their new environment, current research and practice, or to conduct research benefiting from Lisbon’s resources. The Residencies Program is firmly established in the Lisbon arts scene, promoting diverse cultures and practices through international and experimental projects. Our aim is to nurture interdisciplinary artistic research, and promote international experiences in cultural fields. Our special focus is to establish cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural connections, especially artistic exploration of questions within the postcolonial or diasporic experience, history and memory, and the current global situation. Hangar develops several International Residency Programs that give non-resident artists, writers and musicians in Portugal or Lisbon the opportunity to live and work in Graça, Lisbon for a period of one month to three months. The program aims to facilitate international exchange and the exchange of ideas, with our longest running residency program being in the field of visual arts. Innovation in Relief Printmaking – Encaustic Paper Staining, Woodblock and Mokuhanga Workshop Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Spain This five-day workshop explores a combination of direct mark-making techniques on lightweight papers, Western-style woodcut and Japanese mokuhanga printmaking. Participants will learn how to use wax as a resist to create layered, stained images on lightweight Japanese papers. Delicate washes of colour can be applied before the wax is removed, revealing patterns and tonal variations. These papers can then be overprinted with relief woodcuts or incorporated into prints using the chine-collé technique. The workshop will explore different approaches to woodblock printing, from bold black-and-white imagery to multicolour compositions using multiple blocks. Reduction carving will also be introduced as a way to develop tonal variation within an image. Participants will be introduced to key mokuhanga techniques, including image transfer, registration methods and printing with different types of baren. They will also explore how stained papers can be combined with relief printing to create layered and richly textured images. Throughout the workshop, participants will develop their image ideas through drawings made to scale and transferred onto the blocks using a variety of methods, including laser-printed photocopies. Combining these techniques offers new possibilities for experimentation with colour, texture, layering and image-making in contemporary relief printmaking. Duration of residency 1 week – Monday to Friday, 5 studio days from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Accommodation Accommodation is included in the workshop fee and is provided in shared rooms within the apartment adjacent to the printmaking studio at Art Print Residence.
