The program is non-prescriptive and process-based, allowing visiting artists to develop projects in response to their new environment, or to conduct research benefiting from Lisbon’s resources. Accommodation Hangar offers 7 living and work studios for residency in a private format. There are 4 studios with private bathroom and kitchenette facilities and 3 private studios that have a co-working format with shared kitchen and WC facilities.   Disciplines, work equipment and assistance HANGAR invites artists who practice the visual arts, with special focus on those who work in filmmaking, photography and performance. Experience Innovation in Printmaking This workshop-residency invites artists to discover electro-etching not simply as an alternative technique, but as a contemporary way of rethinking intaglio printmaking: safer, cleaner, precise and open to unexpected visual results. Led by Alfonso Crujera, specialist in electro-etching and author of The Electro-Etching Handbook: A Safe, Non-Toxic Approach, the residency offers an intensive and personal learning experience for artists who wish to deepen their technical knowledge while expanding the expressive possibilities of their work. Since 2002, Crujera has introduced artists and printmakers from many different countries to this non-toxic approach, combining practical studio experience with a clear commitment to safer and more environmentally responsible methods. The residency takes place in a quiet rural setting within the landscape of the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding farmland. Far from the noise of the city, the studio offers time, space and concentration: the right conditions for research, trial, error, discovery and artistic growth. Electro-etching brings renewed energy to traditional intaglio. It allows artists to work with line, tone, texture and depth while avoiding many of the hazardous procedures associated with conventional etching. At the same time, it opens a wide field for experimentation, making the process accessible, adaptable and rich in creative potential. The programme combines individual guidance, independent studio time and a warm, family-like atmosphere. During the stay, residents may also be introduced to the cultural context of the island through visits to contemporary art centres and other places of artistic interest, encouraging both professional development and cultural exchange. Art Residency in Tbilisi | Re-coding the Living Deadline: 30 Nov 2026 Country: Georgia Untitled Residency is a research-based art residency initiated by Untitled Tbilisi, created as a safe, caring, and critical space for artists working with queer and feminist perspectives, social justice, and speculative approaches to new forms of life, care, and coexistence. The main goal of the residency is to support artists whose practices engage with questions of identity, visibility, power, intimacy, community, and resistance – especially within fragile, transitional, or politically complex contexts. We are interested in artistic research that explores how people live together, survive, imagine futures, and build alternative forms of kinship and solidarity, particularly from queer, feminist, and decolonial positions. The Euroatla residency is an independent artist space meant for self-sufficient artists looking for a place of reflection away from their usual environment. Euroatla has two formats of residency to choose from. The first is an independent residency solely based at Euroatla while the other is done in partnership with Hangar, which includes an open day and curatorial support. Rooted in the Icelandic art scene and open to the world, SÍM Residency offers time, space, and context for artistic research, reflection, and exchange. The programme supports practices that engage with place, material, ecology, language, and contemporary cultural conditions – encouraging slow processes, experimentation, and dialogue. Residents live and work at Seljavegur 32 in downtown Reykjavík, within a shared yet independent environment, with access to private and communal studios, public moments of exchange, and presentation formats that foreground research as much as outcome. Accommodation Residency apartment and studios located at Seljavegur 32 in the western part of Reykjavík city center. The building has a rich and layered history, reflecting Reykjavík’s architectural and cultural development over the past century. The plot was originally handed over to the Reykjavík Lighthouse Authority in 1942, to relocate its data warehouse from Klapparstígur. In May 1945, permission was granted to build a three-story concrete office and equipment building, which was completed in October 1946. The structure was built of reinforced concrete, covered with quartz, and featured an iron-clad roof. It has two main wings – the west wing facing Seljavegur and the north wing facing Holtsgata. Originally, the ground floor housed a car repair and machine workshop, the second floor was used as a lighthouse data factory, and the top floor contained offices. Plans were made in 1948 to expand the building northeast along Seljavegur, though the extension was never constructed. Later that year, part of the west-wing roof was destroyed by fire, leading to reconstruction that included a small tower structure with a balcony on the southwest corner. A concrete boiler house was added in December 1948, and by 1949, 14 storage rooms had been established on the roof level. From 1952, the building served as the headquarters of the Icelandic Coast Guard, and it remained largely unchanged until 1981, when modifications were made to the roof structure and interior. In 2006, the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM) began leasing the building, transforming it into a vibrant artistic hub with 55 artist studios and residency accommodation for visiting international artists. Today, Seljavegur 32 houses the SÍM Residency, one of Iceland’s longest-running international artist-in-residence programmes. The building combines its original industrial character with the creative energy of Reykjavík’s contemporary art community. Located just a 10-minute walk from the old city center, the residency is surrounded by cultural landmarks and amenities, including libraries, museums, galleries, supermarkets, swimming pools, cinemas, restaurants, and the University of Iceland. The SÍM Residency apartment includes 18 private bedrooms, a mix of private and shared workshop spaces, and a large open project area used for events and group exhibitions. All residents share common facilities such as kitchens, bathrooms, and showers. Each month, the residency hosts up to 20 – 22 artists, creating a lively and collaborative atmosphere that encourages artistic exchange and experimentation. All San Diego County and Tijuana region youth (from K–12 public, private, or home schools) are invited to submit works via an adult representative for consideration. Works submitted may be executed in two or three-dimensional media and must meet the Young Art 2025 Guidelines for Submission to be considered. A broad variety of media is encouraged including youth painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital media, video, mixed media, collage, sculpture, fiber arts, artist books, etc. How are the works of art exhibited inside the Museum selected? A jury of San Diego Museum of Art curators, including Anita Feldman, Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs; Kara Felt, Ph.D., Lawrence S. Friedman, Curator of Photography; and Rachel Jans, Ph.D., Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, will select the works of art to be exhibited in Young Art 2025: Nurture and Nature. These works of art will be selected on the basis of visual elements, originality, age appropriateness, interpretive connection to the exhibition theme, and craftsmanship. How will artists be notified of acceptance? Participating educators, adults, and youth representatives will be notified by email whether or not their students’ works of art have been selected for exhibition in Young Art 2025. Notification emails will be sent on January 21, 2025. How are exhibiting students recognized? Students selected for the Museum’s exhibition will be invited to a celebration for Young Art 2025 artists, families, adult representatives, and educators on April 3, 2025. Digital invitations to the reception will be sent to the adult representatives of exhibiting students who submitted the works of art.

Creekside Arts Retreats Deadline: 01 Dec 2026 Country: United States CREEKSIDE ARTS is a collective of friends, neighbors and artists who collaborate to support the arts and community in Humboldt county. CREEKSIDE ARTS Retreats offer artists stays of 2 to 4 weeks. This is an opportunity to reflect, create and explore in an inspiring setting among the Redwoods of Northern California. Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate a project focus on what is dear to our community: Land, place, community, nature, climate, education, and social and political consciousness and justice. We welcome artists from a broad range of creative disciplines. The retreats are an opportunity for artists to focus on their work and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. There are 8 members of the Creekside Arts collective, who live on the Creekside Arts grounds. Residency 2028 Deadline: 01 Dec 2026 Country: Netherlands Artists, curators, designers, writers, architects and other artistic researchers are invited to apply for an 11-month residency amongst a cohort of some 36 participants at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The academy is open to candidates from a wide array of disciplines, ranging from material-based to research-driven practices, addressing both urgent global issues and more personal inquiries. Participants not only follow their individual trajectories but also develop themselves in relation to their peers. During the residency, they share their stories, curiosities, practices, have an opportunity to learn from and support each other, collaborate, and experiment across disciplines. It is material, political and ecological, entangled with the ghosts of extraction, labour, colonialism, myth and magic. Today, our relationship to energy is increasingly shaped by accelerated technological development, artificial intelligence, extractivist economies and the demands of hypercapitalism. Mensch Maschine invites proposals that critically engage with these conditions while also imagining energy beyond its reduction to a technical resource or economic commodity. The open call encourages artists to approach energy as both a haunting presence and a relational force: one that connects human, more-than-human and technological worlds. The Mensch Maschine VISIT Programme welcomes proposals from a broad range of artistic disciplines, including visual art, performance, film, installation, sound, writing and new media. We particularly encourage projects at the intersection of art, energy and ecology that explore the idea of ENERGY GHOSTS from multiple perspectives. These might draw on mythology, cosmology or speculative fiction to consider the unseen dimensions of energy, or examine the invisible infrastructures, histories and residues that continue to haunt contemporary life.
