Residency 2028 Deadline: 01 Dec 2026 Country: Netherlands Artists, curators, designers, writers, architects and other artistic researchers are invited to apply for an 11-month residency amongst a cohort of some 36 participants at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The academy is open to candidates from a wide array of disciplines, ranging from material-based to research-driven practices, addressing both urgent global issues and more personal inquiries. Participants not only follow their individual trajectories but also develop themselves in relation to their peers. During the residency, they share their stories, curiosities, practices, have an opportunity to learn from and support each other, collaborate, and experiment across disciplines. It is material, political and ecological, entangled with the ghosts of extraction, labour, colonialism, myth and magic. Today, our relationship to energy is increasingly shaped by accelerated technological development, artificial intelligence, extractivist economies and the demands of hypercapitalism. Mensch Maschine invites proposals that critically engage with these conditions while also imagining energy beyond its reduction to a technical resource or economic commodity. The open call encourages artists to approach energy as both a haunting presence and a relational force: one that connects human, more-than-human and technological worlds. The Mensch Maschine VISIT Programme welcomes proposals from a broad range of artistic disciplines, including visual art, performance, film, installation, sound, writing and new media. We particularly encourage projects at the intersection of art, energy and ecology that explore the idea of ENERGY GHOSTS from multiple perspectives. The goal of EAR is to provide a positive and productive location for artists from all over the world to come and stay and create new work and networks. Edenhope is a small town with daily conveniences such as a supermarket (with hardware & haberdashery), post office, pharmacy and a pub and cafe/bakery. There is also a medical centre, hospital, variety of churches, motel with restaurant, local community art gallery, opp shop, antique shop, and the southern hemisphere’s only Dachshund Museum! Group trips and tours can be arranged to visit local hiking spots, geological sites, galleries and places of interest, and larger towns for shopping. With natural scenery, farmland and key geographical sites of interest in all directions including the World Heritage Listed Naracoorte Caves, Bailey’s Rocks, Mt Arapiles (known for its world class mountain climbing), Little Desert National Park, and the Coonawarra Wine Region nearby. A number of exciting and inspiring locations are a day trip away including the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park, pink Lake Tyrrell, Victoria’s largest saltwater lake and the Murtoa Stick Shed. The space is filled with original art and vintage objects sourced in galleries and antique shops across Serbia and Europe.
