Embrace the tranquility of nature as you work on your art. You can also immerse yourself in Colombia’s rural culture by hiking, taking river walks, and exploring the surrounding area. Don’t forget to cool off in our natural swimming pool. Join local community projects, participate in farm activities like yoga classes, and let your creativity flow in this inspiring environment. We provide space for artists to work independently, managing their own time and creative work, while also offering them the general services, activities, and spaces of Cultivarte. Open to creators from all fields, the 8-week residency sessions in 2027-2028 invite collaboration across disciplines, welcoming not only artists but also scientists, writers, poets, scholars, musicians, architects, designers, brand owners, and other creators and explorers. A4 will select participants based on submitted applications and provide support, including round-trip airfare, accommodation, workspace, material fees, a “Super Agent” connection system, and project promotion to foster interaction between residents and the community, the city, and each other. //One. Resident artists will be participating in a unique context comprised of the art center, the community and the characteristics of the city, which includes the development of a rapidly changing and evolving southern side of a tranquil city as well as the tension between its long history and fractured modernization. Artist Residency in Hainan, China Deadline: 31 Dec 2026 Country: China The outward reach of mind magnified by the flood of information makes us forget the inward return between every breath. There in the vacuum zone naturally grows the understanding of the ultimate reality, and truth-driven actions. K&B Art Studio has created such a void, open to all artistic practices as the means to expand it, allowing the gift of presence to be seen, experienced, and appreciated. We call for artists traveling in Asia to join our inexorably explorative lifestyle at the Studio. With cross-cultural exchanges and creative explorations as the means instead of the purpose, we look forward to breaking an opening of the above-mentioned stillness in mind, as small as it is, among the local community in Hainan and resident artists abroad. The studio is located in a local village in Hainan, just by the wetland, and 15 mins away from the coastline by scooter. Artists can approach the culture and lifestyle of local, rural villages, surfing and camping communities, and the migrant creative communities of pottery-making, weaving, silver craftsmanship, painting, woodwork, etc. Duration of residency Stay for 2-8 weeks. Accommodation The studio offers a private room for the artist, sharing a big yard and two geese living in the yard. Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Artists, photographers, curators, writers, and creators are welcome to apply for our residency program. There are no residency fees, and the Studio will offer free accommodation, but not food (very affordable in the village and a kitchen free to use). The resident artists are responsible to bring their creative tools or put some local materials into use. They are also encouraged to leave a little something of their creative output in residence, a poem, a sketch, a ceramic easel, or organize a workshop sharing their knowledge or the creative trip with the village kids and the migrant creative community. The studio offers two kilns for use (one big and one small), and some essential woodwork equipment. Both founders speak English, and there will be volunteers offering assistance if needed.Studio / Workspace The studio is a shared workspace, with a pottery-making room, two multi-function rooms, two kiln rooms, a cafeteria, and a big open, green space. We welcome artists from all disciplines and at all stages of their practice: musicians, dancers, writers, photographers, filmmakers, visual artists, performers, textile practitioners and those whose work resists definition. Some arrive with a clear project in mind; others come looking for time, distance, experimentation or a change of rhythm. Life at the house unfolds through shared meals, conversations, individual work and spontaneous collaborations. Residents have access to an arts and crafts workspace, a music studio and the shared spaces and patios of the house. Madeira offers a particular context for a residency: an island with a singular natural landscape and an active cultural scene, while still offering the distance and quiet needed for focused work or retreat. Expectations towards the artist There are no mandatory outcomes or production requirements during the residency. Artists are free to use their time at Escola Normal Funchal in the way that best supports their practice, whether that means creating, researching, experimenting, resting or collaborating. Residents are invited, but not required, to activate the house with their work. This can take the form of a performance, concert, exhibition, screening, open studio, workshop, conversation or another public event developed according to the artist’s practice. More than anything, we ask artists to engage respectfully with the shared environment of the house and contribute to the spirit of curiosity, generosity and exchange that shapes the Escola Normal community. Selection is based on the artist’s motivation, the practical suitability of the project for the spaces available in Funchal and the potential for exchange within the Escola Normal community. Formal education, institutional recognition or previous residency experience are not required. We are particularly interested in artists who are curious, experimental, generous in sharing ideas and open to living and working alongside other creative practitioners. Escola Normal values process as much as outcome. We encourage applications from artists pursuing unconventional paths, interdisciplinary approaches, unfinished ideas, unexpected obsessions and projects that may not easily fit within traditional artistic frameworks. The Yountville Art Walk program is designed to promote the Town’s pedestrian-friendly atmosphere with a collection of outdoor public art that includes approximately 35 sculptures. The Art Walk is always open to sculpture entries. We offer a $2,500 stipend to assist with costs and ask for a two-year loan agreement for each piece. Our rotation of sculptures provides our guests and visitors with an ever-changing Art Walk experience throughout the tourist section of our town. Yountville Arts Commission’s Mission Statement reads; “To provide vision, leadership, inspiration and support for artists and their art in Yountville, creating a bridge that links artists, community, visitors, business and government.” Our Mission Statement formalizes our goal of supporting the artist. Each piece on loan to the town for the Art Walk is for sale and promoted through our Art Walk map, social media, a new QR code accessible Audio Tour, and press releases for new works. Who can apply: Anyone, of any nationality, any level of expertise, working in any medium. What you get: A €500 grant awarded throughout the year to a different working-class creative anywhere in the world, funded directly from Karim Boumjimar’s income as an artist. He created this grant to share a portion of his earnings with other working-class creatives who receive little or no institutional support and could benefit from practical financial assistance. The grant comes directly from my earnings rather than from inherited wealth or a separate institutional fund. Recipients can use the funds freely for whatever they need – materials, equipment, rent, research, travel, studio costs, or living expenses. There are no strings attached and no expectation of anything in return. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with no fixed deadline. Applications are reviewed periodically, and new recipients are selected throughout the year.
